I’m not even a beginner but I still watched this because I love watching your timelapses (they’re so satisfying) and getting reminders of basic tips is always good, no matter what level you’re at!

another good tip I've used to learn how facial features curve and how skin lays on bone structure was through experimenting through makeup! such a great way to get hands on, if youre using something like eyeshadow blush , bronzer etc. with a brush focus on going lighter and hyper focusing on your shading! learning to manipulate facial features through makeup is another way you can learn how to shade and colorize different features to accentuate certain aspects ! I know Sara mentions makeup a lotttt and there's definitely a reason for that !

That’s basically how I subconsciously learned at 15, used to watch a ton of makeup videos seeing where they highlight or contour or shape brows etc and subconsciously retained the face structure info and my face drawings started getting better 😂😂

@@SosiCreatesArt exactly ! same for me! and i got more experimental with coloring and shading in both makeup and drawing i loved playing with how much weight I'd use for prismacolors it really brought the two techniques full circle!

When I was a beginner I definitely made the cranium much too small, and now I love drawing really tall foreheads haha

Hi Sara, Thank you so much for making this video - It's incredibly helpful. :) I hope you don't mind me saying this but usually when coloring the hands of a poc with darker skin, their palms are a lighter color. Mine are more subtle but get more obvious during the summer. :)

i dont actually think same face syndrome is a big bad thing, we often use our own face to practice so it would make sense that a lot of our portraits have similar traits to them. and once we have "mastered" those features we then mix and match with other faces we research
