I would be interested in seeing more videos about brush painting, maybe showing two similar models with one being brush painted and the other being airbrush painted (so you and we can compare and contrast). Also, as you find problems in future model builds, maybe turn on your video camera and film how you try to deal with your problems. Nice job on your videos!

Hi there I'm Duncan from England United Kingdom and just got into ww2 aircraft modeling and diaromas Im 44 and just started I've brought a load of airfix and revell kits from my hobby shop and amazon I've done a spitfire and a b25 North American Mitchell.. I've some German and Japanese zeros to build plus a battle of Britain memorial set and an extra Lancaster bomber.. My first few paint jobs ain't turning out any good so I brought an airbrush but ain't used it yet bef3i use the airbrush I'm going to try your method. Thank you for the upload please do more. Nice result. I only hand paint small parts but it was still useful to see all the weathering techniques and I might try handpainting my next 1/72nd model. One tip when painting the tyres is to put a drop of neat thinners into the seam where the tyre meets the wheel rim. It then makes the black paint flow round really nicely. And a question - how did you attach the eleastic rigging for the radio wire? Thank you/

Thanks John....I don't use thinners but I do sometimes use a panel line wash, like Tamiya's, for the rut where the tyre and the hub meet. Same principle I guess :) The rigging is attached with tiny (really tiny) drop of super glue.

You find diluting with water is just as effective than tamiya thinner? I'm hand brushing using tamiya acrylics. Thanks

Thanks so much for uploading this series! If I could make a suggestion from the video editing side, I feel that the videos could use a bit of strategic time lapse. Real time is good to show the techniques but I feel as though we don't need to see whole sections painted in real time especially if you're gonna make a jump cut to a different section. Also, the music is a bit too distracting for me. Thanks again for your helpful tutorials!

About the time lapse, hmmm....i do use it now and then, in fact in this video....what you think are jump cuts are actually jumps plus time lapse...he he he. Hey Emmanuel, if you are having trouble with diluting oils in turpentine, I would suggest you check the oil paints you are using. Standard oil paints take several hours to dry, as does turpentine. I use Daler and Rowney Artists turpentine. Most of my oils are Winsor and Newton. If the problems remain, then you can try oil paints made specifically for scale modelling. These are a little more expensive. Good luck :)

Thanks for watching and glad the videos proved helpful. Yes I am using synthetic brushes but I am not very particular about the make. I buy the middle of pack type of brushes, neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. Just something that feels decent and after a few kits I have identified the brushes that seem to work best for me. I am sorry I don't have a more specific answer. But experiment with the brushes and enjoy the journey :)

So, a wash serves many purposes. It will highlight the panel lines and rivets on the kit that may otherwise get lost in paint, particularly if the paint is dark. It also helps other details pop up and become more visible. Secondly, if you want a weathered look for your kit, particularly if you are making a tank (or AFV), a wash is good place to start building the grime and mud build up. Applying a wash also helps even out the overall look of the kit. However, as with most things in model making, whether you use a wash or not, how much you use it, is all up to you and the final look of the kit that makes you happy :)

Very nice result and a well made series, just binge watched all 4 parts. You've helped me find the green I need to paint an Australian Spitfire Vc as that shade looks spot on. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this 4-part series. It was of great interest to me, but am reluctant to use your techniques as I fear a loss of detail as a result of panel lines etc getting filled with paint. I use Tamiya and Mr. Hobby paints and sometimes Vallejo. Tamiya paints are difficult to brush on I have found, it doesn't attach to the surface and it gets messy when I try to make it 'stick.' What am I doing wrong? Anyway, thanks again - liked and subscribed :-)

I watched your older guide and you did the oil wash before the chipping, in this, however, you did the chipping before the oil wash. I think I said that right 😂. Anyway, I'm working on my first "real" attempt at a model plane and I'm sort of confused about what to do first. Thanks for the great tortorials!

Hey Henry. First off, thanks for watching the videos. So, what came first the chicken or the egg? Lol. Whether to oil wash the kit before or after the chipping depends on the final effect that you want. If you chip before the oil wash, the wash will also affect the chipping, making it dull and it will look like old chipping that has now collected soot and dust. If you chip the kit after the oil wash, the chips will look fresh, something the aircraft picked up in its last mission. So, when to chip the kit becomes a personal preference. Sometimes, I do some chipping before the wash and then add some high lihgts after. Hope that helps. Good luck with the build and stay safe.

Very useful series of videos! Can I ask: why do you use oil paints for the wash, and for the details after your matte coat?

So I use oils because of three reason, firstly, they are very safe. Oil paints are not aggressive and generally will not damage the underlying paint. Secondly, they take a long time to dry, so I can keep tweaking and tuning them till I am satisfied. And lastly, I like the way the oil wash looks. The matte coat I think I used Mr. Super Clear flat/matt. Hope that helps :)

Hey Jesse...I use two cameras for the shoot. Go pro 5. and Panasonic HC-V180. The Go Pro is for wide shot and the Panasonic is for close up shots. If you are starting off, then go for something like the Panasonic it is more suited for this kind of shooting. You can also make a camera arm for it using a cheap Ikea lamp, there are many videos on KZbin that show you how. Good luck with the channel. Pls let me know if you have any more questions :)

Hey buddy...I am really sorry, I forgot to lower the volume on the music in one section. Will be more careful from hence forth. Sorry again. Oil washes take a few hours to dry, I would suggest you wait for about an hour and wipe off the wash from a small section, if you see it is holding in the panel lines, wipe it all away, if the wash gets completely wiped away, reapply the wash and let it dry more. And yes, a Soviet aircraft is in the plans, I am Indian....you know half the aircraft we use are Soviet :)

Thanks mate. There is nothing special that I use for the builds. Just some acrylic paints (usually Vallejo, Mig or AK). Some nice brushes. I use Tamiya extra thin cement for gluing and some super glue when required. If there is any specific product you want to know about, please let me know. :)
