GarageBand is actually a version of Logic with a lot of features removed, hence the similarities between them.

Got to say pondering and weighing up whether I actually make enough music to justify a subscription though., of which I initially didn't know it was. (It's just a hobby for me). I would have preferred a one off full whack price. Still tempted as I want a DAW that has more to offer than GB, and as they are closely related it seems like the natural and 'logical' progression. I will definitely let you know if I go for it. Still going through your tutorials and will make a decision after.

@@PeteJohnsMusic couldn’t watch the show live (on Central European time 😉), but will certainly catch the replay later! So far the different time signatures seem a very cool thing to use. In GB, this could be done, but it was quite tedious. Questions that already pop up: - are auv3 plugins that work with Garageband on IOS fully compatible with Logic? - in the video you made, the drummer sounded very good. Are there a lot more drummers in Logic than in GB ios? And do they sound a lot better? - What happens to files if you get the subscription temporarily? Would you be able to re open projects when you get the subscription again?

Great video, Pete 👏 I’ve hooked up my iPad Pro to my whole studio setup this night (just took out the usb from the Mac and put it into the iPad Pro) and it’s working like a charm. Sure, it’s a bit different from Logic Pro on Mac, but overall, what Apple achieved here is quite amazing!

Great video Pete, visually apart from the master mixer it looks very similar to GB. I’m hoping the sounds, Sam-les and loops offer more diversity and a variation than GB

You will LOVE the additional sounds. And yes, the interface is different but has enough familiar aspects that I think GarageBand users will adapt really well.

Depending on your needs and how deep you want to dive, the instruments and effects in Logic offer far more flexibility than those of GarageBand. As GarageBand and its included instruments and effects are actually a sub-set of Logic features, they are compatible to a point, alowing GarageBand projects to be imported. Once in Logic, you will have access to more sophisticated versions of the instruments and effects, with many more sound manipulation controls and options.

Great video! I asked this of another person but how do you feel this compares to the interface and ease of use of GarageBand for iOS? I think the desktop Logic would win but the iPad version, GarageBand is phenomenal for getting ideas out. It does pretty much the same functions although Logic has more advanced features. Just wondering if it's worth upgrading.

Yes, it's really a personal thing. For folks using GarageBand who haven't hit any limitations, it might not be worth upgrading. For others, they may be frustrated and enjoy the additional features. Tomorrow's podcast will be about this topic so make sure you're subscribed and tune in.
