Setting up your first saltwater aquarium can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. Today a short video on a simple tank you can learn to set up this year. We used the HelloReef kit because it's super easy, comes with the gear, and a ton of educational videos to boot. But you can absolutely piece together a beginner tank with gear of your choosing.
This is a short video, not meant to teach you how to setup an aquarium in detail, but rather to give you the inspiration and a quick overview of the steps you will be taking. If you've always wanted a clownfish (nemo) at home, this is the year!

No, they were definitely not! The nems weren't added until after the clownfish during week five or six!

Is it the same thing to use distilled water with PRIME over RO water for reefing?

So Prime is a great tap water conditioner, primarily because it neutralizes ammonia, meaning it also neutralizes ammonia compounds like chlorine and chloramine. RODI and Distilled water don't need Prime, because there is no ammonia in prime. So for saltwater aquariums, distilled, RO, or RODI water by itself and then mixed with a salt mix of your choice will work just fine! :-)

Filtered drinking water like RO or RODI?

Yep! RODI water is preferred, but RO water works just fine as well. You can also use distilled water, but that is usually more expensive. You can just go to the grocery store and buy one of those 5 gallon drinking water jugs and use that for a great price!

You can't. Just get an RO unit they are cheap.

@indoorEcosystem is correct. While there are some people who use tap water, it is very risky. It will depend heavily on your water source, pipes, how your municipality treats the water, etc. I would say 99% of saltwater hobbyists use some form of filtered water. But if you don't buy an RODI filter, just go to the grocery store and buy gallons or those large jugs of RO water (filtered drinking water), and that will work great too!
