I am new to the game of horse handicapping and betting. I have been through a roller coaster over the last several months. I have tried several strategies from straight to exotics. I have found that on money back promotions for 2nd and third I have done well but the risk is low. I am not a big money player so I have found it to be more profitable to play exactas tri's and superfectas. If I see a horse that has an almost guarentee to win I look for long shots that might have the potential to get into the money and play trifectas and supers with those outliers. Not every race is a good race to play supers and tri's. If the the probable horses finish in the top 3 or 4 those bets aren't going to pay diddly. I was on a loosing streak for a while and Saturday I was down to my last seven bucks had been tacking it easy for a week or so. I found a race that it looked like it was a sure thing for the favorite but the long shot looked to be in good form. I played the long shot at 1st through 4th position with different combinations of horses though out including the favorite at 1st and second place. I also did a couple exacta boxes. The morning line favorite took 1st of course but my longshot took second and a couple good paying horses toke 3rd and 4th . I hit $444 on the super and $67 on the exacta. I was about to be done till my trip to the Indiana derby but now I have money to play with till then and I bought stuff for the garden with the profits. You have to look at the horses that are outliers to win big on exotics, more often than not you will loose but that is why this is gambling.

Yes good advice and strategy. I am glad to hear of your winning wagers and what you have doing with the profits. Helping that garden out!!! Way back when I used to bet exactas and trifectas using the "logical" horses. That one paper made the most sense. That strategy hardly ever worked because some longshot I didn't have would finish 2nd or 3rd. Now I try to think out of the box and use those horse much like you do. And if for some reason the logical, most likely winners end up beating me then so be it. Chances are those payouts will be low and I didn't miss out on much. I can't state this enough. It only take 1 or 2 races that you bet correctly to get back on your feet in a hurry. Keep making those smart wagers Kenny! I appreciate your comment.

I think the best times to make an exacta bet is when you have a horse that is not the 1,2 or 3rd choice in the wagering pools. So not one of the low odds horses. You use that horse in your exactas and try to combine it with other horses that are those top choices. Or if you really like a horse at short odds, then use longshots and higher priced horses other than the 2nd and 3rd choice in the 2 position in exactas. Same kind of goes for trifectas even though that gets a little more complicated to explain by typing so I will make some videos regarding that. But for now try to find a nice price horse, say 5-1 or higher and key that horse in the your trifectas. That usually works and pays pretty well every now and then. Another strategy is to have a horse you like in the the win position, then spread amongst many horses in the 2nd position and use keys horses that you really like in the 3rd position. the reason being that most people spread in the 3rd position more than they do in the second position. So having a horse no one else has in the 2nd position might be the key to unlocking a bog trifecta payout!

Absolutely! Maidens are many times unpredictable and inconsistent horses so you never know what you will get with them! Big payoffs many times with those maidens!

You got that right! Some races they don't even offer show wagering due to the small field sizes. :-( Which is sad because it is a beautiful track and deserves to get back to relevance and being a go to place to bet on horses!
