Thank you. I guess field size matters too… Love to understand exacta strategies better. Handicappers always give out three or four top horses..but exacta boxes are usually losers if all horses have low odds

Thanks Mike! Great insights. Have a group of friends and we each grab a leg of a P4 or P5 and do a group bet. We typically each pick 2-3 per leg. I'd be interested in P4 and P5 strategies!

How about exacta strategy? Handicappers tend to give 3 or 4 top horses but exBoxes are usually losers, especially if those top 3 or 4 have low odds

I usually just go win as well. Doesn't W.P.S feels like insurance? You need great adds to bet across the board and even 90-1s have awful show payouts for their odds most of the time. The place on that 3 who ran second in that example was ok . Show is only worth it if there is bridge jump situation and you think that 1/5 horse with over 60% of the pool is going to be out of the money. Anyway great stuff! I love horse racing and glad to find the channel.

I was wondering this myself. You are showing math for only betting certain odds horses. But we bet horses not odds. For example the racingdudes free pics for Keenland Apr 14,15&16 picked 12 winners (40%), with 19 places (63%) and 22 shows (73%) in 30 races. The win profit is $19.60 or 32%ROI, place profit is $11.50 or 19%ROI and show profit is $1.80 or 3%ROI. If I don't bet place and show, I leave $13.30 on the table or 11%ROI. With the minus pool regulation, I get my money back plus a minimum AND I'm betting to win already so why leave it? If I'm OOTM I'm already a loser, but if I'm ITM it's insurance against the lost winning bet. If anything we prove that the ROI is in the winning pool and not place or show. (after three days of show only bets, with only 8 losses, I still can't afford a beer but it's 3%ROI) Don't leave money on the table. It's w/p/s for me.

typically you weight wps --10 win vs 2 win 4 place 6 show ...would math change ?

It actually gets worse since you are betting more money on the worse ROI bets. In the final race, to break even betting to show, you would have you 10-1 shot show 38% of the time just to break even.

If you bet only grade 1 raes to place, if you are knowledgeable about horses,you can do .uch better than what you described.You swept all the garbage races without esteem. Prof.Fazal
