I can’t even tell you how nice it is to watch you fall off that board in the bumps. I’m about 10 “sessions” in myself and learning on my own in isolation. I’m going out at my local and flopping about. It definitely hasn’t caught on here yet so I’m learning how to have thick skin lol. I did the same thing and just tried to send it first try. Couldn’t even stand on the board 😂 It’s very reassuring to watch a pro surfer struggle just the same as me. I thought I was just the biggest kook ever. Something about having a goal you’re striving towards though has renewed my stoke and made me excited to get in the ocean. I’ll be watching your journey from La Jolla, please keep sharing 🙌🏽

I want to get into SUP Foil so badly. But it looks soooo expensive. Plus, I need a chaser boat too for safety. Would love to ride around Oahu, but need a friend with a boat lol

Wow! Not being negative or anything like that, but I would figure you would catch on easily in a week or less. I mean, if it’s taking you a few weeks to learn, it’s going to take us average surfers more than 6 months to learn. I don’t know, but maybe your board needs more foam to easily float & stabilize you? I’m curious & want to learn how to foil too. The only problem is that it’s expensive AF. The local shops in socal don’t rent them out for us to learn & to figure out what works & doesn’t work. I saw some dude foiling in San Onofre a couple years ago. I asked him all kinds of questions & what not. I remember him telling me that he bought 3 wings/foil board. Why? Because he took the advice from the “experienced” sales rep & bought his 1st foil. It didn’t work for him. He tried to make it work for several weeks & & it didn’t work for him no matter how hard he tried & he couldn’t return it. He took another advice from another experienced sales rep & bought a different wing size. It didn’t work for him as well & he couldn’t return it. And then he finally bought his last one that finally worked for him. He paddled for a small wave, caught it, rode it, turned around pumping back to the outside, & caught another one & another one & another one & another one until he was tired of pumping. So yeah. He warned me that if I decide to do get into this sport, be ready to buy a few wings &/or boards since the shops over here don’t rent them.

How has fd changed your dw experience? Do you think you’ll ever learn to paddle up in bumps? Does your balance still accumulate while using fd?

@@tylerkent4496 in reality I just use it for positioning and the occasional bump to get started. I feel like they are training wheels but I do feel it gives me a good base. I use a traditional dw board and paddle, and don’t really efoil with it.
