I have just made the shorts and used a sew along tutorial when I didn't understand an instruction. I enjoyed the process very much and love how flattering they look from the front. I'm not tall but I am long waisted so the high waist works for me. I made size 18 and like you found the fit too big. I scooped out a lot of the back seam to remove a lot of the bulk. I considered them a toile but was a bit gutted having to do that because I'd french seamed it all as it was light material. Still, I'd made the shorts first so I could do fit adjustments before I made the trousers. Ready to make the trousers now.

wow you went through it with this pattern! i had to unpick my muslin so many times on this pattern. I got it after watching a sew along. I love how your pair turned out, I plan to make another pair soon

I hesitated on the Pietra pattern too, because I didn't see a lot of representation of my body shape and size on Instagram. I will check out the hashtag! I really appreciate your review, because now I know what to watch for!

Your haircut looks fab! 🤩 Way to hang in there with the shorts! 💪🏼 That was genius how you drafted your own pattern piece from the other size measurements! I’ve made two pairs of the Pietra pants, and, the pockets were a head-scratcher, for sure! Also, I did not enjoy stitching across the back elastic while having to pull it. I wish there was a better way! Your shorts look great, and I love the color-blocking! 💜

Oh my what an experience you had Michelle. I must say, we must have been on the same planet as a project I worked on seemed to have issues out the gate and the main one for me was sending the wrong sizing to print to PDF plotting, hahaha. So, I totally understand your frustration, but you persevered and learned quit a bit. I'll be working on my Pietras probably end of this month or early July.

The shorts are flattering and I like the unintended color blocking. Since they feel big, I’d take in the side and crotch seams as you suggested. As for your mistakes, everyone who sees can relate. 😂 Sometimes everything goes wrong.

Ah yes Urkel 🩳. 🤣🤣 My shorts also were too high. I kept cutting and cutting thinking surely this is wrong. Mine are wearable and I love the pockets. The pattern printing sounds like a nightmare. 😱😱😈

The pietra pants are an easy sew once you figure out the little tricky bits, well not actually tricky just different. I have made all the variations and have found that for a fatty ( 44 inch hips and waist} getting the fit right takes a lot of effort. I lengthened the back rise and shortened the front rise. I think the trick for my next pair will be to make them so they just fit over my hips and let the back elastic bring them in. I still love making them, and the look of them.

i always have fit troubles with pants/skirts that have elastic only in the back. i think when half of your waist is doing all the work of holding the pants on, you're just asking for problems. i know that when i've done it, i get gapping in the front and the waist always wants to slide down. way to persevere on your shorts despite the issues you had. pants are so hard to get right that at this point i always either make a muslin or count my first version as a wearable muslin b/c the likelihood that something will not be right is just so high that i don't want to cut into precious fabric right away. i do like the contrast that you ended up with but i can see how it would look cool with the contrast on the pocket area instead.
