The reason why there are Colons in the script is that when you put in a built-In function like "Destory()" or "WaitforChild" is how to activate a Build-In function. This is only if you're confused with the Colons part.

this is a post that i found in robloxdev platform it helped on me, hope it will help on you as well If WaitForChild thinks the object doesn’t exist, it stops, raising an Infinite yield possible warning in console. In addition, both will return nil if the object is not found. In answer to the poster’s question, findFirstChild is useful to check if an object exists. WaitForChild is more useful when you are sure an object exists, but need to wait until it has replicated. You can see this difference in the function design. WaitForChild warns you if the object is not found, findFirstChild just returns nil.

for a bit of a concept, what I'm understanding is that if you see the arrow on a certain thing that's a "parent" (for future videos :) and when you hit the arrow it drops down these items (this is the child)

An example of when you would use WaitForChild would be loading screens, waiting for everything to load before the player can play and then an example for FindFirstChild would be when you need to check if something is there without it waiting for that something to appear, for example if a door needs a key to be opened, you would need to check if the player has the key

@Laura Beirne There is really no purpose of doing that in this script. He just did it so we can know what it does. You usually use it to wait for something then after it has found it, run the command you give it.

This is how I understand it, FindFIrstChild is useful when you want to use a string value("Part") in order to identify the object you want to use and WaitForChild can be used like a condition so the script can run.

In that case it doesn't make a difference but you can use that function in many ways such as to identify an object that is made from a script. In that scenario you can gain access to that object via the function.

4:24 it didn’t run because the script was server sided and you added a part in the client

If you don't understand, Wait for child is used to make sure scripts don't break. When you load into a game every single object takes time to load, The problem with this is they don't load at the same time they load and run seperately. So a script might get loaded in before an important part, When this happens (which sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, it's random) the entire code breaks apart and sends back an error because the script couldn't find the part, Because the part hadn't been rendered fast enough. Wait for child stops the entire script and lets the part load in before continuing in order to stop this. FindFirstChild is just a fancier variation of finding a child part, Not really neccessary.
