Do you like to fish in Destin, Florida? What are your favorite fish to catch?

I'll be at miramar beach memorial weekend. Can I catch pompanos off the beach there too? Or would driving over to Destin beaches be better?
@thebutlerfamilyadventures9 ай бұрын
All the beaches along the gulf coast will have pompano. Just look for deeper water near the shore or right behind the first sand bar to find fish. You may have to move around if nothing is biting in a particular area. @@josephcha1854

@@thebutlerfamilyadventureskinda new to offshore fishing. How far out do you cast to catch some Pompano
@thebutlerfamilyadventures9 ай бұрын
You’d be surprised. They tend to run along the trough between the second sandbar and the first one closest to shore. Look for deeper colored water and I’ve even caught them within 10-15 feet of shore. I usually use 4 rods and throw them varying distances from the beach to find where the fish are running that day. @@Alloutpursuitoutdoors

I am so excited about my trip to Destin. I typically chill at the pier and toss my lure off the side. I've had lots of success with Ladyfish and catching plenty of hard-tails. Some other folks have better luck with Jack Cravalle and other species.

Some people hate catching those fish but I’m always happy to have tight lines. Don’t forget to try for some pompano. They will be running along here very soon and they are excellent to eat.

That’s definitely pompano season. Make sure you hit up a local tackle store and get sand fleas and fish bites. You should be able to catch ‘em on that from the shore or the pier.

heading out to florida tomorrow actually. you got any tips for me to catch pompano? heard some beaches still are seeing a fall pompano run. how far should i cast out there for them? also, how far should i be casting and what should i use to find some bluefish?
@thebutlerfamilyadventuresАй бұрын
So yes the fall run has been very good this year. Fishbites, Fishgum, sand fleas, and shrimp are all catching fish in the area. If you can find a stretch of beach that has a little trough or deep area close to shore with a sand bar behind it, throw a rod in the trough, one right in front of the sand bar, and another on the backside of the bar. Or look for any cuts where the water is flowing back out away from shore. Those rips always hold fish too. The water temps have come down with a cool front we’re having right now so there should be fish in the area.

The fall pompano run is just beginning in the area so make sure that you get some pompano rigs out with fishbites or fresh dead shrimp or sand fleas if you can find some. They are the best tasting fish along the gulf coast and put up a good fight when caught. Thank you for watching.

@thebutlerfamilyadventures Жыл бұрын
Flounder are good to catch at the pass right before the season for them closes in November. They are moving out to the Gulf then to spawn. We’ve got mangroves on pretty much any dock or pilings in the area but just offshore on the reefs are the best bet to find the bigger ones. I just went out yesterday to okaloosa island and caught about 15 nice size whiting that I brought home to fry up. And of course the pompano fishing is outstanding here in March and April. It seems like the Navarre and Pensacola area get better pompano hauls but I caught my limit several times here in Destin this year in spring.

@thebutlerfamilyadventures9 ай бұрын
Actually that’s right around the fall run for pompano. They’re the most delicious fish in the area. You can see the rigs I was using in this video are pompano rigs but they will also catch whiting which are delicious too. Redfish migrate along the coast in the fall as well. Throwing cut bait like a piece of lady fish or cut mullet will work really well for them.
@thebigschlitz9 ай бұрын
Will the bait shops have cut bait or will I need to catch my own? Thanks for the quick response!
@thebutlerfamilyadventures9 ай бұрын
@@thebigschlitz many bait shops do have cut bait or whole mullet. I’d check half hitch tackle in Destin before you go out to see what they have in stock. Fresh dead shrimp will work for the pompano. If they don’t have any there, just get unpeeled fresh shrimp from Publix. I’ve used it before and the fish still would bite just fine.

I enjoyed the video and appreciate the information! We are currently planning our family adventure to Destin. We love to fish but have zero experience with saltwater. Any pointers for a first timer? Just looking to let the kids reel in a few. Ps I hit you with a sub!
@thebutlerfamilyadventures2 жыл бұрын
If you want to put the kids on some fish, head to Publix and pick up some fresh shrimp from the seafood section. Also go to Walmart and pick up a pompano rig and some pink fishbites. (The associate can show you where they are.). Put a small piece of shrimp about the size of a dime on each hook and a small piece of fishbite right after the shrimp and throw it right where the waves are breaking or just beyond them. Whiting and Pompano like to hang out in that area and are excellent to eat if you want to keep any of the catch.
