As did I. One time I was playing out in the surf and felt a little fish nibble on my foot. It freaked me out at first, but then saw the little guy swim away quickly after realizing I am not edible... at least to that little guy. I had wished I had a camera attached to my ankles.

Many years ago, vacation on Grand Cayman. Rented a villa on the North Shore, right on the beach. Coral reef about 200 yards out, water about 15 feet deep inside the reef. My brother-in-law and I fished and snorkeled. I could actually watch as fish interacted with his bait, bit, got hooked, fought, etc. Amazing to see that, especially in such crystal clear water. Also took a short walk to Cayman Kai, where I hooked the only bonefish in my life. Took off like a lightning bolt. Broke my line in seconds. My drag was set too tight. I couldnt believe the speed of that thing.

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Be very afraid. My diarrhea friend had two attach to his scrotum while taking multiple shits in the ocean due to unfamiliar bacteria in his guts from eating at a street taco stand. He stood waist deep, naked except for a towel around his neck to wipe the salty sweat profusely pouring from his head, while streams of hot, wet diarrhea shot violently out of his ass, over and over until his sphincter, bright red from blood and over exertion collapsed under the strain. For 16 hours he stood there, a solitary figure with only his thoughts and regrets for company and a tattletale murky brown cloud of shitwater surfacing every little while only to be pushed to the beach by the rolling surf. When all was said and done and he was back on dry land towelling his 305lb of blubber off, we noticed 2 olive snails attached to his nutsac. But that’s a whole other story.

I love how you have floats on your droppers to keep them off the bottom. To me it looks like the fish either can not see your bait or are just not interested in what your serving to them. I would love to see what we call a snatcher hook on your rig. It's a hook with tinsel tied to the shaft, they flash and shimmer. You add bait to them like a normal hook, the added flash really makes the fish see it and investigate. You can tie your own there very simple to make.

So a little tip. They can see the gear. They can see it all. Depending on how hungry they are depends if they hit it. Small tackle rewards more fish. Always. Also fluorocarbon. So important. Very interesting. Down here in New Zealand we often get water around the off-shore islands that is so clear, you can see the fish 25 to 30 feet down, around your bait. And I used to put lines down, then if the fish were not biting, put the aquascope over the side and watch the bait. And MANY MANY times I saw there were plenty of fish approaching the bait, and doing what your pompano did, looking right at the swivel, sinker and hook from inches away, and then swimming off, coming back and looking again, and swimming off again.. So I made a tube to deliver cut bait straight to the seabed, it ran down a monofilament and popped open at the bottom. And I tested a couple of times, put down normal lines with bait and hooks and sinkers, watch fish swim up and inspect the rig and not be interested, then delivered bait pieces right beside my rig, and the SAME FISH that refused the same bait because it saw a hook/sinker, snatched up the cut bait without the gear instantly. Then swam back to the hook, looked at it, and swam off. They certainly get wary of the hook and sinker.

The snapper in the Hauraki gulf, the large expanse of water near our largest city, have evolved to mature earlier then they did just 40 years ago, and now they grow quickly up to 25 centimeters, then their growth slows markedly, so instead of jumping over 30 Cms the next year, they take two or three years to get from 25 to 30. We have a size limit, for the last few decades, of around 30 Cms. Most people obey it, you lose your boat, ALL your fishing gear, the trailer and car if you took the boat to the water on them, if you get caught with just one under size fish. So the fish SEEM to have evolved to stay small, and have definitely evolved to mature to breeding as much as a year earlier. They are still researching the effect, so it isn't certain. @@cicatrace

Howzit FISHGUM!! Aloha from Hawai'i. Love your fishcam videos--keep em coming please. I wish all our fish over here were as generous with biting the hooks as they are in your vids. I just started a channel recently with footage from my fishcam also. We have a harder time using it out here in the islands --though between rocky reef snags, a multitude of baitstealers, strong rip currents, hawaiian sea turtle hook ups, and the lingering threat of hungry tiger sharks -it is challenging. I've just begun to dive my fishcam and bait out and drop it in deeper water just because it's harder to cast the fishcam plus the heavier lead really far out. I've got some interesting footage for sure. Keep doing what you do and I'll be watching for sure. Aloha!

A world of creatures killing and eating each other for food.. such an ugly thing. If a person were to somehow create a universe like the one we live in, most people would say, "WTF is wrong with you?" to that person, if they were not afraid of such an omnipotent person.

A world of creatures sticking their heads in the sand about the disastrous effects of industrial agriculture on sea life is far uglier, as it increasingly feeds toxic blooms of blue-green algae that make their way to the coasts, and which are a non-graceful (de-evolutionary), non-exciting way to die, if ever there was one. Also, WE probably wouldn't even be here, as homo sapiens, if our ancestors hadn't eaten the brains of other creatures' kills as the plains opened up in Africa, providing "us" with enough fat and energy surplus to grow larger brains. We're not made of plants... unless we want to de-volve.

This is some awesome perspective of what's going on on the hook side of things. It's amazing that even so close to shore, it is teaming with life...

This camera is AMAZING! Initially I thought you were letting the fish carry the cam out into deeper waters…. That would have been sweet too.

You really caught a nice thumbnail on this one with the rod bending mid cast. If I’m sport fishing and not fishing for food I enjoy hooking the fish. It’s one of my favorite parts of fishing.
