Nice tutorial! It would be better if you had addressed the weight distribution between the front and back foot before, during and after the turn. Also, do you use the same mechanics when the waves are soft, small and mushy? If you use the bottom part of a small, mushy wave, there's not much power to get back up the face. Would a double pump bottom turn be better than the oommphh turn? The oompph turn you described looked like a abbreviated double pump bottom turn. I surf a place north of Huntington Beach pier called Bolsa Chica. It's soft, mushy and walled almost year round. Backside bottom turn is my nemesis. The struggle is real! You should come and surf with us in Feb when it's windy and tiny. ;)

A suggestion: it'd be nice to have some videos with realistic beginners with beginners' longboards. Or should a beginner be surfing with such a short board? I ask, because beginners are told to surf with longboards, but on videos for beginners the demos are shown with much shorter boards. That's a genuine question from a confused noob.

Hi Kale I think you have great info, but I wish you stayed on topic more. "Fix your backhand" with lots of different people only going backhand, and lots of examples of the same thing. I'm a goofy footer and I live on the Gold Coast, I only surf the right hand point breaks so I'm always going backhand, would love to improve this. Hi Kale, Yesterday i took a wave on backhand but my bottom turn was too sharp so I lost too much speed to move forward. How would explain and fix it?! PS: where is Ryan ???😂
@ndub60215 жыл бұрын
Put more weight on your back foot at the bottom of the wave before you turn, *slightly* lift the nose of your board up by pushing down on your back foot and guiding with your front foot. This will make the board easier to pivot and transition your speed up the face of the wave better. Before you bottom turn, you should be looking where you're about to perform the turn, while you're turning you should be looking up at the lip or where you want your board to go. Use your front arm to guide your body around in the turn.
@romainlemaire30935 жыл бұрын

Nobody is paying attention to what gear the example surfer comes with. Try to focus on the surfing and dont worry about sex, we are all good! One of my other favorite surf lessons channels is supposedly made for females but whatever, its good. I dont worry if they want to feel clubby about their gender, Ive seen that all my life - it seems to be an insecurity and I get where it comes from.
