One of the reasons I love living in Thailand is the fascinating Thai culture, which is deeply rooted in our beliefs. 💐
Today’s podcast is all about Thai beliefs, especially those related to luck-both good and bad-prosperity, and wealth. We’ll explore how Thai people enhance these aspects of life through traditional beliefs and ceremonies.
In this episode, you’ll learn new vocabulary, including alternative ways to refer to each year in the Chinese zodiac. I hope you’re also starting to recognize some Thai conjunctions I frequently use, like “แล้วก็” (láew gôr), “แต่” (dtàe), and “นั่นก็คือ” (which is/which are) to connect sentences. Try mimicking my tones to help your throat muscles remember the sounds accurately. Trust me, learning Thai becomes much easier once you can clearly identify each tone. I’m also keeping the grammar simple, so even if you’re just starting out, you can enjoy listening too!

สวัสดีค่ะ และนี่คือพอดแคสต์สำหรับผู้เริ่มต้นกับครูกิ๊ฟค่ะ วันนี้ครูกิ๊ฟอยากจะมาพูดถึงเรื่องของความเชื่อของคนไทยนะคะ เราจะพูดกันถึงเรื่องของปีชงค่ะ คนไทยเรานี่มีความเชื่อในเรื่องของความโชคดีนะคะ แล้วก็ความร่ำรวย มั่งคั่ง จากการบูชาเทพเจ้าต่าง ๆ และปีชงนะคะก็คือ 1 ในเรื่องที่คนไทยเราให้ความสำคัญกันพอสมควรนะ แต่จะขอบอกว่าเป็นแค่เฉพาะบางกลุ่มเท่านั้นนะคะ ปีชงในปี 2568 นี้ ที่เรียกว่า ชงตรง 100% คือปีกุนค่ะ ปีกุนก็คือปีหมู ภาษาไทยนะคะ ชง 100% คือสามารถเกิดเรื่องราวร้าย ๆ ได้ อันนี้เป็นความเชื่อนะคะ และยังมีปีชงร่วมที่สามารถจะเกิดเรื่องราวร้าย ๆ ได้อีก 3 ปี ได้แก่ ปีขาล หรือเสือ ปีมะเส็งหรืองูเล็ก และปีวอกหรือลิงนั่นเองค่ะ ครูกิ๊ฟเองก็เกิดในปีม้านะคะ ปีนี้ก็ไม่ชงและถือว่าเป็นปีที่ดีเลยทีเดียวค่ะ สำหรับใครที่เกิดในปีดังกล่าวที่กล่าวไปแล้วเนี่ยก็จะต้องไปทำพิธีนะคะ เราก็จะมีพิธีแก้ชงค่ะ แก้ชงก็จะช่วยเสริมสิริมงคลให้กับชีวิต และยังทำให้จิตใจเรารู้สึกโชคดี เออ รู้สึกปลอดภัยนะคะ รู้สึกว่า โอเค เราได้แก้แล้ว ได้ช่วยให้ชีวิตเราดีขึ้นในอีกแง่มุมนึง แต่ทั้งนี้เป็นความเชื่อเฉพาะบุคคลค่ะ โดยปกติแล้วคนไทยเราเนี่ย ชอบไปแก้ชงกันที่เยาวราชค่ะ หรือทุกท่านรู้จักกันในชื่อของ “ไชน่าทาวน์” วัดที่แก้ชงก็คือวัดจีนนะคะ เราเรียกว่า “วัดมังกรกมลาวาศ” ไม่มี ส.เสือ แต่ครูกิ๊ฟออกเพราะว่าติด 5555 ขออภัย แก้ตัวค่ะ “วัดมังกรกมลาวาศ” หรือ “วัดเล่งเน่ยยี่” นะคะ ถ้าเข้าไปแล้วก็จะมีวิธีการบอกให้แก้อย่างไร เริ่มต้นอย่างไรง่าย ๆ เลยนะคะ ทุกคนก็สามารถไปเสริมสิริมงคล เสริมบารมี เสริมความสุข ความมั่นใจในชีวิต ในการใช้ชีวิตกันได้ สถานที่นี้ก็ยังเต็มไปด้วยของกินอร่อย ๆ ด้วยค่ะ ถือโอกาสหาอะไรทานไปด้วยเลยนะคะ สำหรับใครที่มีแฟนหรือว่าตัวเองอยู่ในช่วงของปีชงที่ครูกิ๊ฟกล่าวไปแล้วเนี่ย ก็สามารถไปเสริมสิริมงคลกันได้ที่วัดเล่งเน่ยยี่กันนะคะ ปีนี้หลังจากที่ครูกิ๊ฟกลับจากบ้านคุณพ่อคุณแม่แล้วเนี่ย เดี๋ยวครูกิ๊ฟจะต้องพาเพื่อนรัก 2 คนค่ะ ปีนี้ชงร่วมทั้งสองคนเลย ก็จะพาพวกเค้าไปแก้ชงกันที่วัดเล่งเน่ยยี่นี้เช่นกันค่ะ แล้วทุกคนล่ะคะ มีความเชื่ออะไรเกี่ยวกับความโชคดี โชคชะตา ตามแต่ละประเทศของแต่ละคนรึเปล่าคะ? ต้องบอกเลยว่าคนไทยเราเนี่ย มีความเชื่อที่เกี่ยวโยงกับหลาย ๆ ประเทศเลยนะคะ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นประเทศจีนหรือทางอินเดียหรือแม้กระทั่งกับทางยุโรปก็มีเช่นกันนะคะ แต่ที่ดูจะมีอิทธิพลกับคนไทยมาก ๆ นั่นก็คือ ทางแถบจีนและอินเดียเป็นหลักน่ะค่ะ โดยส่วนตัวแล้วเนี่ยครูกิ๊ฟก็ชอบทำบุญอยู่แล้วนะคะ อาจจะมีการบริจาคบ้าง หรือการเข้าวัด สวดมนต์นั่งสมาธิ ทั้งนี้นะคะกับท่านที่รู้สึกว่า เอ๊ะ! ประเพณีนี้หรือพิธีกรรมนี้ดูเป็นอะไรที่อาจจะไม่สอดคล้องกับตัวเอง เอาเป็นว่ารับรู้เรื่องราวนี้ไว้เป็นความรู้ประดับว่าคนไทยเรามีความเชื่อในแบบนี้และเมื่อท่านมาที่ประเทศไทยก็จะได้รู้สึกว่า โอเค! เราได้เรียนรู้วัฒนธรรมที่แตกต่างออกไป ซึ่งนั่นก็คือเรื่องดีในการศึกษาในการเรียนรู้ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นภาษาหรือวัฒนธรรมในสถานที่ต่าง ๆ ที่ทุกคนไปเยือนนะคะ ในวันนี้ค่ะถือเป็นโอกาสดีนะคะในช่วงเริ่มต้นของปี ครูกิ๊ฟก็ขออวยพรให้ทุกคนมีความสุข โชคดีในทุก ๆ อย่าง แล้วก็สำเร็จรุ่งเรื่องในทุก ๆ กิจการที่ทำเลยค่ะ วันนี้อาจจะต้องขอลาไปก่อนแล้วนะคะ แล้วก็ขอให้ทุกท่านพบเจอแต่สิ่งดี ๆ เป็นวันที่ดีและเข้าใจภาษาไทยมากยิ่ง ๆ ขึ้นไปนะคะ และเดี๋ยวเราพบกันในเอพพิโซดหน้าว่าครูกิ๊ฟจะมาพูดถึงในหัวข้ออะไร อยากให้พูดถึงในหัวข้ออะไร สามารถแนะนำเข้ามาได้ในคอมเมนต์ด้านล่างเลยนะคะ แล้วพบกันค่า สวัสดีค่ะ บ๊ายบาย~ 🙏👋

Hello! Welcome to the podcast for beginners with KruGift. Today, I’d like to talk about Thai beliefs, focusing on “Bpee Chong” (A Misfortune Year). Thai people generally believe in good luck, wealth, and prosperity through worshipping deities, and “Bpee Chong” is one of the beliefs that holds significance for many. However, I must say this is limited to certain groups only. For the year 2025, the zodiac sign facing a 100% “Chong” clash is the “Year of the Pig”. The “Year of the Pig” in Thai is called “Bpee Gun”. A 100% clash implies that negative events could potentially occur. This, of course, is just a belief. Additionally, there are three other zodiac signs experiencing partial clashes (“Chong Rûam”), which include the “Year of the Tiger” (Bpee kăan), the “Year of the Snake” (Bpee má-sĕng), and the “Year of the Monkey” (Bpee Wôrk). As for me, I was born in the “Year of the Horse”, so this year is not a clash for me and is actually considered a good year. For those born under the zodiac signs I just mentioned, there’s a ritual called “Gâe chong” (clash remedy) that you can perform to bring good fortune and peace of mind. It can make you feel safer and more optimistic about life. However, again, this is purely a personal belief. Typically, Thai people go to Chinatown (Yaowarat) to perform this ritual. The temple most commonly associated with “Gâe chong” is a Chinese temple called “Wat Mang-gorn Gama-laa-wâas”. It doesn’t have Sŏr-sĕua sound, but I pronounced the S sound because I get used to it. 5555. I apologize. Let’s fix this again “Wat Mang-gorn Gama-laa-wâat” or commonly known as “Wat Lêng Nêi Yêe”. Once you arrive, there are instructions on how to proceed step by step. It’s straightforward, and while you’re there, you can also pray for blessings, confidence, and happiness in life. Plus, the area is full of delicious food, so you can make a day of it! For anyone who hase partners or yourself whose zodiac sign is in clash this year, you can visit Wat Lêng Nêi Yêe” to remedy it. Personally, after visiting my parents this year, I plan to take two of my close friends, both of whom are experiencing partial clashes, to perform the ritual as well. What about you? Do you have any beliefs about good luck or destiny in your own country? Thai beliefs are often influenced by other cultures, particularly Chinese and Indian traditions. These beliefs have had a significant impact on Thai culture, although there are also influences from Europe. As for me, I enjoy making merit, whether by donating, visiting temples, or meditating. For anyone who finds these rituals unfamiliar or feels they don’t align with their personal beliefs, I’d say it’s okay to simply take this as cultural knowledge. When you visit Thailand, you’ll have a better understanding of our unique traditions. It’s a wonderful way to learn about different cultures, languages, and practices.
