These are really good. You asked for constructive criticism, so I am just throwing this out there: For my brain, the in game explanations go a lot further for my understanding than the post game/in depth stuff, the reason being is that the post game stuff goes by too quickly for me to even take full understanding of what's happening and then you're on to the next thing. When you're in game, either waiting for your opponent or deciding what move to make next, there's enough time elapsed that I have time to understand the position, make a move in my head as well as wrapping my head around why it might be good or bad, and it also gives me a chance to think about the questions you are posing. I might be able to wrap my head around one or two major components of the post game analysis, but beyond that, I get a bit confused, especially when the board is quickly changing. Keep in mind, I am probably not your target audience. I'm a totally lousy player....much lower than most of the opponents you've been playing recently. I totally appreciate you doing these, so thanks. And also, I think it's pretty badass that you get to do what you clearly love day in and day out. I have a career like that myself, and it's fantastic to just be able to concentrate on your passions and actually make a living out of it. No small feat! Cheers

No, they aren't good at all because it is a totally different world depending whether opponent plays well enough or plays total crap. It's like giving away highschool or academic knowledge versus primary school one. If opponent is too weak you can't share with more advanced and trully educational stuff, but you need stick to the basics. Last video i turned off after move 4 because opponent was a freaking amoeba. Here I got highly irritated after 6 moves as white is arguably already slightly worse with no initiative, but i said myself "ok, dude isn't great, however, Danya gives him odds with Bg4 so I still can get sth out of it" and than on move 12 guy is a piece down for zero comp. and game is over. What can you share with audience in such situation besides some basics? You just can't as position will never call for any of the more advanced concepts. Danya is AMAZING teacher, but if he picks such games my experience as a viewer is abysmal. Content immediately goes from top tier to barely above trash. He shouldn't even analyse those games or try in-game thought process explanation. Best would be probably to resign or ask politely opponent for that and move to the next game. It is all in all an account made purely for educational values, so rating doesn't matter at all. If anything that would be profitable for viewers as Danya would get larger ammount of games to pick from.

@@DonFreeq 1. It’s a speedrun going up. The level of play from the opponents with naturally go up. If you want danya to get into tough positions against a 1600 he would have to intentionally throw. 2. There still is a lot to learn even when a piece up. Danya still talks through coming up with a plan and converting the advantage. Your criticism is essentially that you’re too good for these games. In which case this video isn’t for you and wait for the higher rated opponents

The fact he didn't resign was really instructive I thought. I often find the giving of checkmates complicated without my Queen. So often high-rated instructors dismiss their lower-rated opponent because a checkmate is inevitable, but if I were in their position I wouldn't be so sure of winning (or not stalemating!) so the ending was very informative too. I actually wouldn't mind a rule where players weren't allowed to resign, because end-game strategy is one of the hardest things to pick-up. On these videos you either don't make it there, or the opponent resigns beforehand, but that's not always the case in the games I play. Plenty of people will make me work for the win because they know I'm capable of blundering!
@DonFreeq3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, rule of not being able to resign is a trully remarkable idea :D However, there is one and only thing about it which I like: you would be able to torture your opponents who offended you and played on with piece down for no comp. and no time advantage. Just imagine situation when instead of giving mate you can go for 50 move rule or even do it twice! Maybe then they would learn thing or two. Still, you would need to somehow bound them up to the interface ;/ By trying on when you have no rights to do it you basically stealing opponent from valuable resources : time, energy and enjoyment. You are a fucking asshole, nothing more. Besides that you are a coward as opponent can't response - you kinda beating a naked one there. If he could he would make you suffer for 100 turns, but you can always press "resign" button and ran away or even leave a game and burn the clock as a "gift". In contrary, he is forced to end this fuckfest and can't do nothing about it. Food for thoughts ;]

@@DonFreeq sorry I wasn't too clear. I mean a player cannot resign if they are playing Daniel specifically. I like to see the mating patterns
@DonFreeq3 жыл бұрын
@@mikewozere Sure, was a lot of sarcasm there from my side, but I really dislike people who don't know when to resign ^^ As for the rule I feel it would be against Danya interest. He should have been able to decide, once he gets wining position, whether the game is worth uploading or not. If not everybody are just wasting their time due to that spoken rule. For example that game should have never been continued. Simply a wash and lets give another player a chance. You do totally different stuff when you are +3.5 and +0.0, so he either has to emulate opponent still having a piece with artificial stuff he would never would play in that position or it's just an episode of "how to won won position" serie, which has limited usefulness. I know those are 1600's and he is GM, but come on... what are they doing is just a disgrace. Danya even doesn't play the best moves if he believes concept may be not fitting for the audience. Sign of great teacher btw.

@@DonFreeq How many winning positions have you lost? Learning how to most effectively convert a winning position is one of the most useful practical skills a chess player can have. One of the other ones is defending losing/“hopeless” positions as well as possible. I’ve had three “Completely winning” positions against national masters in otb tournaments. I lost two and drew one, and I’ll bet a considerable amount that I’m more skilled at conversion than you.

@@coleschemistrychannel4172 Probably indeed you are as I'm not the best in that materia. Still piece up with just 1 pawn comp is piece up and you don't need much training in winning these. I'm more picturesque, so I will tell you:"Gimme piece up and Danya and I will show you how to convert" xd P.S Once upon a time I had rook up for 2 pawns against NM when I was still unrated. @michalrehacek34623 жыл бұрын
!!!SUGGESTION!!! - (hopefully constructive) For a lot of viewers - openings knowledge is something that we wish we had but regardless of how much time we spent learning an opening, sooner or later our knowledge runs out in our own games // we deviate a lot and ...well ...we screw up. What would be, in my opinion, very interesting alternative / additional content next to a speedrun where you nicely outplay the opponent from start to finish (which is nice to watch, but feels often somewhat impossible to achieve especially against higher rated opponenst) would be to see you playing a "worse position" - by for eample letting twitch chat decide your first 5 moves of the game... and you would then showcase what is the priority in order to "save" lost games. It wouldn't be as unreal as "odds" games where the game has a different dynamic straight from the start because of a missing rook or something like that, but it could showcase an error in an opening - and how to prevent further damage / how to equalize such a position. Maybe I'm trippin and this idea would not work in practice whatsoever, but I wanted to throw it out there anyways. Goog luck, and thank you for your awesome insightful videos.

Why does at 16:00 knight d2 not work? If pawn takes sidestep to h8, there isno backrank bc knight covers and you are still threatening mate in one, rook cant be taken by the queen bc knight from d2 can take...i havent checked this with an engine just an idea
@alexanderreusens76333 жыл бұрын
Without checking with an engine, white can just take the knight with rook. Black can't mate with Rf1 anymore because it's not protected and the queen is still threatening to take one of those 2 pawns. Black is probably still winning, but has just given up a free knight for not much in return
@alexanderreusens76333 жыл бұрын
After checking with an engine, Nd2 actually does work because of tactics: Nd2 Rxd2 Qe1+ forks the king and the rook, Kh2 and Qxd2 pins the pawn back to the king so the rook on f3 still can't be taken. Now White still can play Qxd5+ but the rook simply comes back Rf7. Would have been a genius way to win an already winning position haha
@mstanner3 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderreusens7633 haha yes this works too, my guess was that after rook takes and queen e1+ you dont take the rook on d2 but move your rook down to f1 and threaten mate in 1 and that white has no way to stop it:))) the idea of knight d2 was to deflect the knight from e1 not to win a piece but i probably missed something haha thx for answering

I love that you explain positional ideas in every situation, even when discussing tactics. I'm very proficient at tactics (relative to my actual game rating) but I struggle to think positionally I feel like I'm always looking for some cheeky tactic and never gradually improving my position. you break it down really well at every step, even in the steps where I'm yelling "take the defender then desperado" at the board lol you say the caro kann is all about piece placement and good positioning, but the way I play it is like a sumo match of my pawns pushing against a (usually overextended) opposition. if I get the advance caro, i'm pushing my C and B pawn down my opponent's throat with rooks and knights supporting them. if i get the exchange caro, i'm usually setting up bishops to snipe down the board to block my opponent's development. maybe those are positional ideas but i feel like a lot of my rationale behind them is setting up situations where I am likely to find a forcing tactic or a successful pawn break
