I’m so thankful for this tutorial. I’m a beginning beginner. I know nothing about art but I have a burning desire to learn. So I’m forcing myself to take in as much beginning information as I can. I have WAY more supplies than I need according to you, but I’m secretly glad I do. They’re so pretty. And I bought good quality supplies After watch these three exercises I am going to get some student grade paper and save my good stuff for later. Thank you for the instructions!

Oh, THANKYOU at last a real beginners instructional video on how to begin to paint then to begin using waterclours. I never painted at primary school, and i only knew that you add water and paint together....this was about 50 yrs ago. My chldren painted at school and did quite well...i always believed it was too hard to do...plus i was too scared to start because id make a lot of mistakes, didnt know how to fix it and didnt think i could paint because it took a lot of natural talent. Ive loved you videos 1. Amt of water to use, 2. Part 1, 2 and 3 beginning techniques basics watercolour. The comments sbove cover the videos already watched. Please ontinue

Clearly, I have poor quality paints & brushes....I didn't realize that until these videos. But, Lordy...I've priced out the decent stuff and that's just never going to happen. So, I need to have better techniques! More beginner videos please😁.

I love you videos,thanks. My question is when you have puddles of water, how do you know when to let an area stay with that color puddle? I seem to always want to be smooth a certain area and not let it dry with the most colored area. Thanks
@kathleenbaugh58697 жыл бұрын
You can use the corner of a paper towel, dry brush and dip lightly into puddle until you are happy with the color. You can also use a better quality of paper that can handle the water better. I have watched a lot of videos and that seems to be the common problem solver. I hope that helps. I'm a beginner too.

I have been learning watercolor for 2 months. In a few cases, I have stopped working on a painting part way through. In going back to an area to add another layer of color to parts of it, how do I avoid hard edges on the new area as it transitions to the other, dry part of that area? In the present case, it's the main subject - a donkey in a field.

When you made the wet on wet (#3), was the paper wet first or was it that the you applied the blue paint with a lot of water (making it wet), and then the magenta wet paint?
@minipcful7 жыл бұрын
hi:) question on that dual colors technique. I couldnt mix the two colors together well, and they just look like simple overlap. also, the water often flows back to the center and mix up two colors in the center instead of changing color. can you talk about the tips when doing this ? thanks a lot:)
@kathleenbaugh58697 жыл бұрын
Kimmi Wong I have heard that you can use a paper towel and touch the puddle lightly until you are pleased with the color. Or you can use a dry brush and dip into your puddle and it will act a bit like a sponge to pick up the water. I hope these ideas help.

Nice hands! :) can you please guide me about papers for watercolor, which papers should i use?
@TheWittyGrittyPaperCo8 жыл бұрын
+Adeel Khan Hi there! So sweet of you to say that about my hands! As far as paper goes, it really depends on your budget. My favorite expensive papers are Arches 140lb Cold-press paper or Fabriano 300lb cold-press paper. Both are made of cotton, which is what distinguishes higher-end artist papers from student grade ones (which are generally made from wood pulp instead.) My favorite more affordable brands are Strathmore 400 or Canson Montville. I have a video on the channel where I talk about the different types/brands and their disadvantages & advantages, here is the link to it, if you're interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGqYmGhsnq1pn9k Hope that helps and thank you so much for watching! During the wet on wet segment (3rd square upper right) did you wet the paper before applying the first colour= Ultramarine Blue colour? Thank you.
@TheWittyGrittyPaperCo9 жыл бұрын
+Mia HW Hi there! No, in this case I did not wet the paper before I laid down the blue pigment. If I were particularly concerned with my blue layer being a perfect, even flat wash, that is most likely what I would have done. I recommend that beginners always start out doing their flat washes this way. As you get to know the medium better, you might find you don't need to pre-wet the paper and can get a great flat wash just going rogue (as I did in the wet on wet square with the blue in the video.) Hope that helps, and thank you so much for watching!! :) Best, Meredith

hello very lovely voice u have.. your videos are awesome and very helpful and i also want use these types of methods to render a car but i am not able to understand that the concept of where to give shine and dark color on a car which is is concept of the reflection and shadows can u please help me to understand it it will be very helpful for me and i will be very thankful to you
@TheWittyGrittyPaperCo8 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thank you so much for your kind words! Having an understanding of shadows and highlights is called tonal understanding. Beginners and experts alike often use a reference photo of what they are planning to paint so that they can easily see and define the brightest and darkest areas of the subject. Developing an innate, understanding of tone takes people a lot of practice and time, but using a picture definitely speeds up the process. An exercise you could try is painting your chosen car only in black and white, and that might help you see the lighter and darker areas before you commit to a whole full blown color painting. Painting tone correctly can be broken down into three main parts, the highlights, the mid-tones, and the shadows. You can, of course get more complicated than that, but it's a good place to start. Hope that helps and thank you so much for watching! I hope you have a lovely day! :) Best, Meredith
