dad worked in the railroad and got pallets all the time. my brother and i would cut small pieces and build small stick homes, then before we build a fire in the fireplace, we would light the small house a fire and watch it burn and collapse. we'd built two stories with garage. cutting all the wood sucked. but i can still remember the memory like it wasn't over 35 years ago.

Years ago before he died, my dad built bird feeders and bird houses. For the roofs he used asphalt shingles. Watching your video brought back memories. I've done some wood working in the past and getting interested in it again. Been watching videos about planter boxes and patio furniture and planning on doing that. But when I saw your video I thought how nice it would be to build these feeders in remembrance of my dad. While watching I got to thinking of different ways to build them. People being different and liking different things, might as well make several different models of bird feeders and offer a choice. A few years ago I bought what had once been a light fixture of some sort from a metal recycling yard. It made a great bird feeder. We have a lot of birds come get the free food. Anyway, I'll probably make some feeders off that design. I have a grandson and he has a friend I'm trying to get interested in something other than playing computer games. They're both around 15 and have shown some interest in things I do. I don't play computer games. Enjoyed your video and the humor you put in it. Your other selves mocking you when you made a little mistake was hilarious since I have that going on as well sometimes. lol. Thanks for the inspiration of your video.

Great video! You earned a sub! One thing I would add is that if you use construction lumber and don’t paint or stain it, the feeder will rot and fall apart in short order. You could actually dip all the parts in stain or sealer and let them dry before assembly. That will add years to the life of the feeder. Of course, you won’t be able to sell them a replacement for a while..🤔

16:24 To save a little bit of $$$ on your screws, you can rip a half inch deep dado in your 16 inch tray frame pieces, and just a hair over 3/8 inch wide to allow for movement. If you don't have a dado stack, you can just move your fence a few times to widen out the dado. When you cut the pieces for the floor of the tray, cut them 1 inch longer than what you have here. Install the two 12 inch frame pieces to one of the 16 inch pieces. When you have that finished, turn it up vertically, insert the floor pieces of the tray into the dado, then put the remaining 16 inch long piece of the frame on. You might have to fiddle a bit with getting the pieces into the dado, but when you're finished, you will have saved 10 to 12 screws per bird feeder, AND you won't have to worry about the possibility of the 3/8 inch thick floor pieces of your tray ever splitting, which will make your customers happy.

I do wish I saw this suggestion sooner. No matter what I tried with the screws I just kept splitting the wood. So I chose to add some 1/2" thick, 3/4" wide pieces to do underside. This way it makes rim for the piece to sit on. I'll be trying the dado on the next one. Thank you for confirming what I was thinking/wondering would work.

great video and thanks for making it. In my own opinion though I think selling yours for 50 bucks is a little too cheap given the amount of work and time that you put into that, also adding in your materials, glue, wood, screws, brads. One thing I have learned is to never sell myself short, and to charge well for my time because its a gift/talent that not many people have so we should be compensated for it accordingly. No different than a machanic or a doctor with a specific set of talents.

Imperial system is great when you visualise it, feet and inches. Like how wide a bed is or how tall a person is, its hard to say if a person is 181 cm or 183 cm but it makes sence how tall a person is if the person is 6.0 or 6.1. Took me a while to accept but its easier atleast for me. Here in Sweden the metric system is the only system that we know as far as I know 😊. Except with petrol or diesel engines, then its hp. Now with electric engines its watt for some reason 😄. Its odd though that its the opposite with temperatures, fahrenheit is more precise then celcius 😊. Great video!

Some exterior grade deck stain would be really cool on these too. Put a cut list on this, or open an online store and sell plans. You could go to your local hobby lobby And sell the store these to sit at the store frt where you walk in they always got hand crafted stuff, somthing hand crafted local im sure they could sell them Keep you in the shop and you dont have to deal with retail sales, also you could customize these per special order . Women see these walking into the door its your target audience, you can also go to a few garden centers and speciality stores better to buy made in USA and not some Asian made stuff. You could also sell a pre cut kit someone could assemble. 30 years ago we put up a doll house it was a lot of fun. Just a simple print out picture life size for directions. No assembly instructions.

I'm getting ready to redo the inside walls of my shop from bare walls. Yours look really great with a spot fir everything and everything in is spot. Lol. I was wondering if you have a video of how your shop walls were built? The bird feeder looks great. Thanks.

Thanks! And I do not have a video on it yet. I plan on doing some more shop remodeling when I hit 20k subs, so in a month or two I'll have one up 😆

I have to be honest I thought this would never sell, The truth of the matter is I built one and six Adirondack chairs and my first sale was you Bird feeder and no one bought my chairs. My issue was the amount of pieces to build this was at least in my case to much work for the price I got. It was fun building but for me one was enough. Thanks for the video.

Any bird feeders should have the roof overlapping the base to keep the water out.

Love This!!! Can you do a video on how you pack it for shipping? If it's shipped broken down, do you include assembly instructions? Thank you in advance! 😊

I can't, mainly because I've never shipped any of my products. If I get to the point where I start shipping I will be sure to do a video on it!

Nice. I really liked when you said what the customer is really buying. Maybe throw some holes in the feet, so they can spike it into the ground, if they want it out in the yard. tx. peace

Bird house you can do all kinds of patterns and all kinds of mansions. I would consider making doll houses, and possibly even play houses for kids.

Sub'd up because of your "first thing you want to do" comment at 2:12. I've watched perhaps hundreds of videos here on YT and not one person has made that comment. Thanks!!!

How will this weather? All seams should be glued and/or sealed before assembly. It will have to be Stained every year. The tray ends to be angled slightly for drained. Nice design.

great easy job making money i did think it may be worth it to drill a couple holes in the feet so people could mount it easily or drive short rebar into soft ground etc
