You dont need the plugins with cura. Cura has this built in for regular square manual supports. Use the support blocker and then use the button with 4 pawns on it to change the support blocker to a support and it turns into a support pillar. You can resize the support to your hearts desire.
@ShockVideoVFX4 жыл бұрын
True, but this method is quite a bit quicker.
@chrismckay38684 жыл бұрын
@@ShockVideoVFX not by much really, and you don't need to log into to cura to download it as it's part of the base program. I have downloaded the plugins but still find myself just using the flipped blockers most of the time. And anyways the comment was more to counter the insinuation cura did not have it by default :)

Saves so much print time that its so worth the few extra minutes to add. Great video and def something not enough people are aware exists

What a fantastic Add-on for Cura! I have a lot of models that required messing with the built-in support and either generate a LOT of extra material (Waste) or require me to carefully tamper with it to minimize (Time)... this should be a great solution for a number of different cases! Thanks, CHEP.
@jerrymacdonald1354 жыл бұрын
Can you angle the supports? Flashprint allows you to change just the base leaving the rest of support to be the chosen size and allows you to choose where the support touches the model then where it touches base allowing angled support posts avoiding marring model further. It then allows you to tie another post from another point of the model down to an existing post reducing the amount of support material.
@gothmaniow3 жыл бұрын
Hi there I've never used Flash print ,but I've used a (not very well known slicer named Craftware and you can do exactly this with their custom supports feature. ,I hope that you can will be able to do on all slicers in the near future ,as you said less marking on the models :)

Another bonus using Cura is that many of the newer extensions work on older version of Cura. Playing around with the extension covered in the vid in Cura 4.0. I found that 4.0 gives me everything I need without the bloat. I have the newer versions installed but it seems to take at least twice the print time for the same piece with the same settings.

Hey Chuck! Custom: click first point than second and it lays a support between 2 points with angled top, trying not to cross the upper part of the model. Excellent! Almost like painting supports.
@brunoosti14 жыл бұрын
@@Kalvinjj I'm not sure if the tool wont simple lay the custom support until it touches the bed, crossing the inside of a hollow model. Let me test this. Maybe combining support blockers with custom supports. With the old custom supports it would always extend the support down the bed, even if there was some part of the model where it could be built on and you've had placed blocker under that part.
@brunoosti14 жыл бұрын
Yea... it creates supports through the model until the bed, against bockers, even.
@Faroacces04 жыл бұрын
@@Kalvinjj Supports starting from the model itself is a normal thing and it shouldn't ruin the model's surface. I sometimes did it while printing some minis. Otherwise you should try tree supports either from Cura or the customizable ones from meshmixer.

With the arm, the section between the last two supports is a 80 degree or so overhang. That needs more continuous support than just one little dot and then a few layers further on another. Needs one of those wedges in that section, basically.

I found if you use this with Generate Supports checked, you get the generated supports, and the custom ones. You can select the custom pillars and rotate, scale, move them so they are at an angle pointing away from the base, only touching the model where support is needed. If they intersect with the generated supports you don't have to worry about them not touching the base when you transform them that way. It is a handy way to augment generated supports when they don't support something well.

@@FilamentFriday Cura 4.8. I generated tree supports with custom supports added in. The model was a HeroForge mini of a barbarian holding a greataxe. The bottom edge of the blade of the axe was not being properly supported by the generated no matter what orientation I used so I tested adding custom supports to the mix and it worked.

ANother awesome video. Just a suggestion if I may: Red is hard to see detail on prints. Would you consider using a mor matt color? When I prototype or test, I use grey as my go to color as it allows (IMO) the best contrast for viewing and analyzing the model. It's also a neutral color in that it can be painted or prepared with most other colors, if you are going to be sanding or painting to remove the layer lines. I don't care about using the plastic, I care about how the standard supports damage the models finish and in some cases are hard to remove. This is an awesome tool I will be using. Ultimaker should consider making this as part of the standard install package.
