BEGINNERS FLUID ART #7 THE PEARL POUR. I have crammed a lot of information in this video and it is by no means exhaustive! This video is mainly for those based in the UK, although not exclusively! I don't use Floetrol, so the aim of this video is to nail this technique using PVA. I show 3 different ways of creating pearls.
00:00 Music Intro
00:11 Intro, Pearls 3 Ways
00:52 Part 1, Straight Pour Using Satin Enamel
01:17 Mixing satin enamel flow extender
06:51 Layering cup
07:35 Pouring and Tilting
11:10 Part 2, Dump and Swirl using Craft Paints
11:12 Mixing Craft Paints
17:47 Dump and Swirl
20:59 Dump and Swirl 2
22:54 Dump and Swirl 3
23:14 Part 3, Straight Pour using House Paint
28:21 Dried Results
Recipes are as follows:
PART 1
A straight pour using Satin Enamels
Satin Enamel Mix: 1 Part Amsterdam Titanium White + 1 Part Satin Enamel + 1 Part Pouring Medium (see below)
Colours are mixed to thinner consistency using 1 part paint and 2 parts PM
PART 2
A Dump and Swirl using Craft Pats
Craft paints mixed with 1 part paint and 2 parts pouring medium (see below) and a small amount of liquadex pouring medium + water
Black Amsterdam: mix with 1 part paint and 2 parts PM + liquadex PM
PART 3
A straight pour using house paint
For the house paint base mix: 1 part paint + 10% Titanium White mixed with 2 parts PM (see below) + water
Colours: 1 part paint + 2 parts PM
My Recipes:
POURING MEDIUM:
700ml of PVA Glue mixed with 300ml water.
COLOURS:
1 part paint mixed with 2 parts pouring medium
add water to correct required consistency

Hi Julie where have you been all my life lol I just found your channel... I have been doing the blooms forever and I wanted to get away from that and start doing pearl pores and cloud pores and I am so happy to have found this other alternative.. you said you're very last one it wasn't very effective I think it was stellar looking because the composition of your pour was still there and the pearls came out just enough to give it a nice effect That's just my opinion though lol looking forward to seeing more of your videos Thank you so much sunshine 🥰💜

Hi Julie, I have watched several videos from various fluid artists on pearl painting and yours by far made the most sense to me !! 🙏🙏🙏🙏 Your step-by-step instructions and use of different techniques, paints, etc., has provided me with far more confidence to try it myself than ever before. I also agree with you that it is very important to make whatever technique anyone does “your own.” Thank you again for providing the reference work on painting pearls. When I try it I will let you know how it goes…

The fact that you emphasized the experiment of thinning down a little bit more each time for the middle three was super helpful because I believe it is the best way to see how it changes things. @JulieVatcherArtist Жыл бұрын
I am really not sure! Deco art or folk art acrylic paints (metallic or normal colours) are generally lighter density paints as they are classed as craft paints. If you use heavy density paint over the top like Amsterdam white or black you will get effects as long as your consistency is correct… if it doesn’t work first time try and thin your paints a little.

I’m in the US, so is PVA glue the same as our Elmer’s Glue All, not the children’s glue. Also, if we have American Floetrol, can we use that instead of your pouring medium or will the results change? Thanks for your informative videos for us beginners! ❤️
@gailkutasi3866
@gailkutasi3866 2 жыл бұрын
Do you have Aquahere in America, you can get it from the hardware store. PVA is the same, a white glue. Ask the guys at the hardware store, it should have the ingredients on the label PVA stands for poly vinyl acetate. I think your floetrol is different. Good luck.
@JulieVatcherArtist
@JulieVatcherArtist 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathryn. If you use different pouring mediums the results will change. Being based in the uk I haven’t used Elmers Glue All… I know it is widely used in the US and Australia. The American floetrol will give you results… just perhaps a little different. The best thing to do is experiment, pearls mainly come from the correct consistency, which is actually quite thin. Hope this helps a little!!

I'm trying to figure out these pearl pours and your video is very informative. I'm just a little confused about the satin enamel section. You said 1 part white, 1 part satin enamel, and 1 part pouring medium- 1:1:1 ratio. My confusion is when you were measuring them on the scale you added 30g white, 30g satin enamel, and 60g pouring medium. Isn't that a 1:1:2 ratio?

Hello Carol, I use no nonsense PVA… generally I buy it from Screwfix as it’s closer to me. It has a blue and yellow label. I have quite a few beginners videos on my channel, you should find helpful. Happy to answer any questions you have.

What is the difference between liquidez and pouring medium?

Hi! Thanks a lot for such helpful instructions! What is your experience with PVA glue? Any would do? Did you notice differences between brands and can recommend one specific? Eg Elmer’s? It’s so nice to see recipes without AU floetrol that is unavailable in Europe…

So glad you found this video helpful. I have never had any issues with ‘no nonsense PVA’ from Screwfix or B&Q. I recently tried a cheaper one from ‘Dryad Education’, this one was runnier and can only be used 1>1 (not 2>1 as this video says), as you will loose your shapes whilst drying. I have no experience with Elmers.

Hello Sylvie, here in the uk we use PVA glue as a pouring medium as floetrol and Liquitex is so expensive. I mix 700ml of glue with 300ml of water, then mix well. I then use this as my pouring medium. It’s mixed with 1 part Acrylic paint to 2 parts. You may find my beginners video helpful, it will explain everything. I hope this has helped a little.

Hello, is there a cell activator in Amsterdam white? It's not cells without it, is it?

I just use Amsterdam Titanium white or black. Both are heavy density paints so they will sink through craft paints. 😊

Yes, I know Sarah, I designed her logo and opening sequences to her KZbin videos (not a lot of people know all that) 😊 but we use very different products to each other!!

What is PVA. Not really for beginners. I'm lost. Thank you though

I'm just getting started, a true beginner. What is PVA? Never heard of it. I have often said, if you don't really care about being understood, then go ahead and use acronyms. If, on the other hand, you actually desire to be understood, then maybe use the actual words.

PVA is glue, that’s it’s name here in the uk, that’s what’s on the label. Polyvinyl acetate to be exact… which quite honestly is a bit of a mouth full 😊 if I called it by it’s true name I would have more complaints about people not knowing what I am referring to!
