Like the way this guy is the only one who explains when to go to the next step, thanks. Going to attempt this for the first time and I think the videos are so useful

Really good video. Very well explained. Turns out you have much more time then you think. I’ve been hitting the first wet trowel way too early. Thanks for the tips

How do you deal with tiger stripes mate i cant understand why they appear all the time 🤔 😕 😐
@phillipgregson70353 жыл бұрын
When you do your first wet trowell that with hard trowell or superflex
@AlexMorleyPlastering3 жыл бұрын
Most of the time we just use a steep trowel. We try and stay away from flexible trowels mostly. Thought they have there place. That said to get the best result I wouldn’t use them before the second wet trowel. The pressure isn’t even enough when the plaster is still malleable.

Great vid mate. Loving the channel and tips. Yours and Blaine's channel are superb for us as a bathroom and kitchen fitters skimming our own work. Is that Spider scrim? looks extra grey. We like the orange Fibatape as its very sticky.
@AlexMorleyPlastering3 жыл бұрын
Blaines channel is the best. I have been a sub of his for years. Excellent content. The scrim tape comes from Prestige Building Supplies. They call it “silver scrim” excellent price. About £2.60 a roll I think. We have used about 200 rolls of it since switching over from pink. -no complaints with it.

I find ceilings at least twice as hard as walls. Knackering on the arms too.

Your not wrong. Unfortunately my stilts are 18”-30” surpros. To high for this ceiling. ☹️☹️

@AlexMorleyPlastering3 жыл бұрын
No not especially. I don’t always use the sponge float method. Depends what I’m feeling on the day.
@whitefields55952 жыл бұрын
Alex, your explanation of the sequence, touch tests and timing is first rate. However, can you tell us what is actually happening to the plaster at each stage. Is it setting, evaporating, curing, shrinking? What exactly is “fat”. What is “pulling in” The manufacturer will tell you then you can tell us. I feel that if we could know what is happening then your process steps would be more valuable.

Excellent vid and info but you don't wear safety glasses on ceiling work have you ever had a dollop of skim go in your eye man it f%&ckin hurts .
@Danny-ql2ep3 жыл бұрын
You’ve only coated that once and when you’re putting on instead of working around the edges pull one side out and work down the ceiling and then flatten and for your second coat put it on the opposite way.
@clarkey19772 жыл бұрын
He coated it twice.

Did you run out of scrim for ceiling? Rough as owt man. If anyone as any common sense they’ll see u didn’t scrim ur ceiling. Also look at size of gaps you’ve had to fill with drywall adhesive lol, why don’t you ask an apprentice to show you wot he learned in his first week at college
@AlexMorleyPlastering2 жыл бұрын
We used white and silver scrim on this job. The white isn’t very visible in the video. All joints and ceiling lines are taped, thank you for comment though.
