I feel like Yuzu reminds me of Yuna in 2014 sochi. They both went to the games not because they have to but because they love their sport and wanted to finish proudly. Yuzu got nothing to prove anymore. He already got 2 gold medals so while other skaters are going to the Olympics to finally win a gold medal, the only reason he's going is to finally achieve his dream of landing a 4A. thats how you know he's in different league from the other skaters. He is so legendary that the only reason he's going to Beijing even after 2 consecutive gold medals is to land one jump while the other's are fighting for their life to win gold.

I've been watching Sasha's skating programs and supporting her for the past 4 years, so naturally, I'll be rooting for her at these Olympics. I’m a little sad you didn’t mention the korean ladies Yelim Kim and Young You. The 3 Russians, the 3 Japanese, the 2 Koreans, the Belgian, and the Polish are the ones expected to make it to top 10. Young You, if she skates clean, is expected to score Higher than Wakaba Higuchi and Kaori Sakamoto because her programs are of higher Base Value and she isn’t so bad in terms of PCS as she is as a lyrical copy of Yuna Kim. Not to mention Jun Hwan Cha. He has a better chance to make top 5 ahead of Jason of USA or Mark of Russia. Then there is Daniel Grassl who could rank higher than Jason.

I definitely agree that Korean ladies deserve to be mentioned and are likely to finish in the top 10. However, I disagree that Young is expected to score higher than clean Wakaba or Kaori. Her components are weaker than both of them (and Yuna). She has similar base value to Higuchi but her 3A is kind of telegraphed (Wakaba has better and bigger). Kaori's jumps are of better quality.

If both Nathan and Yuzuru skate clean, I think the gold medal should go to Yuzuru. He's just a better overall skater, and quite frankly, it's sad that people think he should have to skate clean + do a quad axel in order to deserve the gold because scores in GOE and PCS are so overinflated nowadays.

I'm honestly rooting for Trusova to get silver, and land all her jumps, though sadly I think it's unlikely that she will get gold. Her FS is my favourite of the season. Also, nothing against Nathan Chen, but I'm desperately hoping for Yuzu to pull one out of the bag and win another Olympic gold. I won't be upset if he doesn't land the quad axel though (however, it would be legendary if he did, imagine that omg).

If Anna performs a flawless and inspired LP (with 3 quads) and Kamila makes one mistake, she can actually win gold. Sasha needs to land all her quads and not have any mistakes in the SP (she can ditch the 3A) for her to win gold but Kamila will have to make at least 1 mistake. If she doesn't make a single mistake in both programs, Kamila's gold is certain.

@@yugiohlegend It's impossible. Even if Kamila fall she will get more points. Because difficulty of Kamila program are almost 15 - 20 higher than Anna. If sasha lands 5 quads she will get Gold. As Paola says, something catastrofic would have to happen for someone to beat Kamila. I always thought it would be something like Sasha has a clean skate on both programs, does 5 quads in free and nails her 3A, while Kamila stumbles on something and thus ends up with the silver medal. But this???????!!!!! I've read news articles that says Kamilas short program might be in jeopardy.... My heart cannot handle this!!! If Sasha wins this is soooo not how I thought this would go down!!!!! Like I am an emotional wreak right now!!! We need to see Kamila in the individual competition. I live for her Bolero program!!!

Well, Paola, this was the best, clearest, and most fun introduction to/presentation of all the skating Olympians for 2022. I’m so glad I found you as I’m from generation Surya Bonali, Ekaterina Gordeeva/Sergei Grinkov, Pluschenko and Tessa and Scott and other… (yep! I’m _that_ old 😄) You touched on the fact that ice skaters from all 4 categories have come and gone faster and faster over the years. I only did 10 years of ballet and my body is a temple (i.e. a ruin) even though I wasn’t pushed that hard… so I can’t imagine the toll the physical demands, injuries and bullying by the coaches (let’s be real, here) will have on their bodies and souls. Big big hugs to those kids - they are so freaking young!! …What I was getting at is that I miss rooting for my heroes that I could follow for 6,8 or even 10 years. This discipline is loosing viewership because we don’t have time to fall in love with any of those kids and follow them from defeats to victories and/or come back against all odds. People need heroes and those kids need to be kids, not “single use” athletes.

Part of the reason why the Americans had no chance of making the podium is because they're mostly older, healthy, fit girls who have a harder time hitting triple axels and quads in comparison to the Russians. So the question is - is the US willing to sacrifice the health and wellbeing of these girls just to medal? I'd rather not have the Eteri method copied globally.

Too bad singles' figure skating has deteriorated into a jumping competition and no longer seems to reward artistry, expression, and beauty of line. Don't they have a limit to the number of jumps that are permitted in a single program? Seems like jumping is something kids can do best---hence 13-year-old champions--- but artistic presentation comes with maturity. Of course artistry and technical skills need to be combined, but just watching people jump over and over, no matter how many revolutions they turn, is ultimately pretty boring, and may account for some loss of interest in the sport (except for ice dancing, which has no jumps or throws, and continues to innovate in exciting ways). The Ladies' Competition in particular needs to change its name to the Girls' Ice Jumping Competition. They come in too young, briefly blaze like fireballs, then fizzle out by age 18 as new 15-yrar-old fireballs take their place. They don't really have long careers like they used to, and thus don't engage long-term public interest. Hooray for the 25-year-old---an actual WOMAN----- who is bravely bucking the trend! Watch Nancy Kerrigan back in 1994 at age 24 skate a stunningly beautiful, but still technically challenging medal-winning performance, when artistry and grace still meant something in figure skating.

I really hope that Shoma medals. What upsets me about him is he's a beautiful skater and his musicality is amazing but it seems like it only really shows during his gala skates. But I guess we will see. He seems like he's improved quite a bit since 2018, but so have all the others.

This was an amazing video. I started watching FS six months ago but with so many skaters is so easy to get confused. I’m so sad Team USA is not stepping up and at the same level as Russia and Japan but oh Well. Excellent video , thank you !

I stayed up so late last night just to watch Yuzu's heartbreaking SP! :-( It will take a lot for him to make up that point deficit since Nathan scored SO HIGH, so let's hope he can land that darned 4A. I was so excited to see Yuma's score in the SP, and if he skates his FP as well as he did in the team event I can definitely see him earning a silver medal!

"If something catastrophic happens..." Like a failed drug test, that should have kept her out in the first place. I love the Olympics but I hate that countries and trainers are willing to throw these young people's whole life's work away to win. She 15 and from Russia. She probably had no choice plus probably didn't even know what she was taking. Her success will always be questionable now. Poor kid...

My sentiments exactly, my heart goes out to her. The Failed Drug Test had a profound effect on ALL during this Olympics. This entire situation has rewritten the future of Ice Skating in the Olympics. Ironic that the same Heart medications broke a 15 yr olds Heart💔
