I feel like Yuzu reminds me of Yuna in 2014 sochi. They both went to the games not because they have to but because they love their sport and wanted to finish proudly. Yuzu got nothing to prove anymore. He already got 2 gold medals so while other skaters are going to the Olympics to finally win a gold medal, the only reason he's going is to finally achieve his dream of landing a 4A. thats how you know he's in different league from the other skaters. He is so legendary that the only reason he's going to Beijing even after 2 consecutive gold medals is to land one jump while the other's are fighting for their life to win gold.

I’m a little sad you didn’t mention the korean ladies Yelim Kim and Young You. The 3 Russians, the 3 Japanese, the 2 Koreans, the Belgian, and the Polish are the ones expected to make it to top 10. Young You, if she skates clean, is expected to score Higher than Wakaba Higuchi and Kaori Sakamoto because her programs are of higher Base Value and she isn’t so bad in terms of PCS as she is as a lyrical copy of Yuna Kim. Not to mention Jun Hwan Cha. He has a better chance to make top 5 ahead of Jason of USA or Mark of Russia. Then there is Daniel Grassl who could rank higher than Jason.

Well, Paola, this was the best, clearest, and most fun introduction to/presentation of all the skating Olympians for 2022. I’m so glad I found you as I’m from generation Surya Bonali, Ekaterina Gordeeva/Sergei Grinkov, Pluschenko and Tessa and Scott and other… (yep! I’m _that_ old 😄) You touched on the fact that ice skaters from all 4 categories have come and gone faster and faster over the years. I only did 10 years of ballet and my body is a temple (i.e. a ruin) even though I wasn’t pushed that hard… so I can’t imagine the toll the physical demands, injuries and bullying by the coaches (let’s be real, here) will have on their bodies and souls. Big big hugs to those kids - they are so freaking young!! …What I was getting at is that I miss rooting for my heroes that I could follow for 6,8 or even 10 years. This discipline is loosing viewership because we don’t have time to fall in love with any of those kids and follow them from defeats to victories and/or come back against all odds. People need heroes and those kids need to be kids, not “single use” athletes.

Too bad singles' figure skating has deteriorated into a jumping competition and no longer seems to reward artistry, expression, and beauty of line. Don't they have a limit to the number of jumps that are permitted in a single program? Seems like jumping is something kids can do best---hence 13-year-old champions--- but artistic presentation comes with maturity. Of course artistry and technical skills need to be combined, but just watching people jump over and over, no matter how many revolutions they turn, is ultimately pretty boring, and may account for some loss of interest in the sport (except for ice dancing, which has no jumps or throws, and continues to innovate in exciting ways). The Ladies' Competition in particular needs to change its name to the Girls' Ice Jumping Competition. They come in too young, briefly blaze like fireballs, then fizzle out by age 18 as new 15-yrar-old fireballs take their place. They don't really have long careers like they used to, and thus don't engage long-term public interest. Hooray for the 25-year-old---an actual WOMAN----- who is bravely bucking the trend! Watch Nancy Kerrigan back in 1994 at age 24 skate a stunningly beautiful, but still technically challenging medal-winning performance, when artistry and grace still meant something in figure skating.

"If something catastrophic happens..." Like a failed drug test, that should have kept her out in the first place. I love the Olympics but I hate that countries and trainers are willing to throw these young people's whole life's work away to win. She 15 and from Russia. She probably had no choice plus probably didn't even know what she was taking. Her success will always be questionable now. Poor kid...

My sentiments exactly, my heart goes out to her. The Failed Drug Test had a profound effect on ALL during this Olympics. This entire situation has rewritten the future of Ice Skating in the Olympics. Ironic that the same Heart medications broke a 15 yr olds Heart💔

We in Russia adore Mark!) He skates of art. And at the same time fighting for every element. A very talented, modest and direct guy. Pay attention to him: he's worth it. Thanks for the video!

Miss Rona?🤣 This has definitely been an unpredictable season. With so many of the top Russian ladies figure skaters falling prey to injury. I don't doubt that Kamila will be a shoe in for Olympic gold but then again, history has proven to us that the Olympic ice can also stunt a top contender's dream. Including Michelle Kwan and Evgenia Medeveda. Who were both top contender's during their heyday for obtaining Olympic gold until fate snuck in an offered their younger team mates a chance to steal the spot light away from them. As for the men, I really believe in my heart that Nathan Chen will walk away with gold. As Yuzuru suffered a major injury last season by attempting a triple axel.
