As a Zhenya fan it makes me really sad to see how Alina was treated by Eteri at the Olympics, and as soon as she started to grow it was clear that Eteri's focus was on the 3A girls and not Alina. I think Alina has shown Eteri way more devotion than Eteri has shown her, and I wish that Alina could have moved to a better coach where she'd find more respect. But then when i tried to watch events with commentary, and after the algorithm saw i liked Evgenia, Alina started popping up everywhere and i thought they were family or something, like cousins(? After deciding i was going to search them in the fandom (bc i watched by myself, never followed anyone on any social media nor took part on the groups or whatever in the fandom) i realized why the algorithm went that way. Still to this day i am able to think of them as separate -bc i actually didnt pay attention to Alina, im sorry, dont at me- but after that team event everyone went nutz and now i get why they appear togheter in those headlines or in the fandom. Now my focus is on the triple A Eteri girls, and there i can say i cant separate them (Sasha, Aliona, Anna), bc i think of one and i think of all three, gadly is not a negative thought, its just like oh waw they have this and that in common (being honest, Anna is the idel one, but my heart always roots for Aliona, Sasha on the other hand stresses me with all the crazy jumps but little care for other elements, she is indeed impressive but nope nope). I mean the media has always done that... They used to compare two skaters every single time, which unfortunately in the past created unfortunate incidents (which is through the toxicity of competition). Even those who are friends with each other like Mao Asada and Yuna Kim were thrown in as rivals while both of them may still want to keep their friendship instead of a toxic rivalry (and they probably also wish to rekindle it)... I would hate to see these two getting torn apart by the media again but it's always bound to happen. They will always create two factions as if other competitors don't exist. For the sake of money, they need to put on hype and what more than having a scandal or a bloody battle? It's just sad to see

Well granted they didn't ideologically agree a lot from the start. Alina is more of a Putin supporter, where Evgenia is kinda more radical, she has always spoken out about homophobia and the like. Not only that, I bet there was some resentment over Eteri's treatment, and how Evgenia was obviously liked more by Eteri at first, which is so sad for Alina, but then Evgenia (rightfully) left to try and save her career under Brian, so Alina was randomly propped up but Eteri still didn't care for her..etc. More than friends, their relationship goes through ups/downs. They've followed/unfollowed each other. It sucks since Eteri basically manufactured it.
