they add pointless incentives to make it seem more attractive than it is, the s&p500 and other publicly traded indexes have higher returns and offer dividends (essentially interest) that goes straight to your bank. if you start investing $35 a week into the s&p 500 when you're 20 youd have well over 1m when you retire at age 62, if you reinvest the "interest" itd be a lot closer to 1.5, possibly 2m. i think the reason people shy away from this is because it fluctuates a lot more than your traditional retirement fund, in some cases it has returned negative in a ~5 year span, but thats during a really but recession. Over the last 90 years the s&p has outperformed any 401k/IRA etc. dividends right now (because of the economic situation were in) is a mere 1.1%, but during stable economic periods its around 4%, and thats just the amount going into your bank, your capital grows by an average of 9.8% (over a 90 year average) and 13% (ten year average). im not saying to put your life savings into the s&p 500 but its sure as hell where im going to be putting a lot of my money, im only 19 so luckily im just getting started. essentially when you put money into your 401k you're paying a hedge fund to take it and invest it themself, they make a lot of profit and thats why they are able to offer relatively safe returns. by putting your hard earned money straight into a well established index, you're skipping the middle man but are a lot more susceptible to market volatility, which is why you should only consider this if your accepting the fact youre going to take more risk and you have a lot of time for it to grow. over the course of 20 years the s&p has always been positive since it was created nearly 100 years ago. Im sure youve heard people talk about the power of compound interest, but what a lot of people dont realize is the ridiculous affect a single percentage point makes. 10% YOY return with 10k capital over the course of 45 years is 883k, 10.1% is 923k, 11% is 1.38 million. The slightest difference REALLY shows over long periods of time, and thats why you should learn exactly where you want your money to go.

Becoming a millionaire through a Roth IRA or a 401(k) involves different strategies for maximizing profits. A Roth IRA offers tax-free withdrawals in retirement, which can be advantageous if you expect to be in a higher tax bracket later in life. On the other hand, a 401(k) provides tax-deferred growth and potential employer contributions, boosting your savings. The optimal choice depends on factors like your current and future tax situation, employer match, and investment options. Consulting a financial advisor can help tailor a strategy that aligns with your financial goals and circumstances.

For me, I believe retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My wife and I both spent same number of years in the civil service, she invested through a wealth manager and myself through the 401k. We both still earning after our retirement.

If you lack market knowledge, your best bet is to seek advice or support from a consultant or investing coach. Contacting a consultant may sound simple, but it's how I've managed to stay afloat in the market and increase my portfolio to roughly 65% since January. It is, in my opinion, the best way to get started in the industry right now.

@Logan Carter Why i advise to trade outside your company. Don't let them know! That is what i did, and here is my strategy i don't hold a lot of Juniors just Majors i prefer to trade the juniors through a Pro only because being very much more profitable it is riskier too.
@bapbap25622 жыл бұрын
@Logan Carter at my current place of employment, the money that they match with the employee stays in the account just as long as that employee remains continuously employed there for a minimum of 3 years. If you leave before 3 years, any money that the company put in to the 401k gets taken out. If you leave after 3 years, all the money they put in to it stays. Any money the employee puts in stays as well, regardless of whether or not you've worked there for 3 years. The money sits in the 401k and gains interest at whatever interest gain rate (idk the technical term) was specified. You can transfer that 401k to any new employer that offers 401k, because to my understanding, you can only have one 401k. You can also contribute to the 401k on your own, without it being connected to any company benefits program. Hopefully all of that makes sense!

That is great to hear though I think there is no limit to how much the portfolio diversification principle should be put into practice while investing, no matter how much you are making from a particular investment so that when another is down, the other will be up. You can do so by getting an experienced specialist whose platform has diverse investment choices to choose from. By doing this, you give little room for regrets and perhaps gain more.

It's recommended to save at least 20% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 20% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.

Consider investing in stocks especially during a recession . While recessions can be tough, they can also offer good chances to buy low and sell high in the markets if you're cautious. Remember, this is not financial advice, but it's a good time to think about buying stocks since having cash on hand isn't always the best option.

I suggest doing an asset transfer to an IRA with the same provider. Don't cash it out. You want to see the growth from the beginning to the end. Or if they will keep your money invested in the 401K, then you could even leave it. But asset transfer to an IRA with the same provider as your 401k means that money then can't be messed with unless you do something.

Thank you so much for this video! I just turned 21, about 2 months ago and the company I've been working for about 2 years mailed me paper work for a 401k and Roth. I'm on the online portal and have no idea what I'm doing! This video was very helpful! Definitely subscribing to be educated more!

Due to the COVID i was unfortunately laid off work along with some of my colleagues, believe me when say it did not rock me as it did my other colleagues because I have always invested in passive income over the years, I got my stock with the help of a professional.

The increasing tax rate is the reason I rolled over my 401k to a ROTH. I wouldn't want to be paying taxes on current income on withdrawals made from my retirement account. I have been maxing out my 401k, 457b and Roth IRA for the past decade. Two incomes doing the same. Grinding down hard in my 20s-30s to let it ride into my 40s and beyond.

It's still great to contribute to 401k if you don't have the MATCH. Though in that case your first priority should be max your ROTH IRA.

If you want to take a bit more risk... when picking a year you can always pick a target date fund that is approx 5-10 years later than when you retire. Reason is initially they will purchase more stocks and less bonds initially.... once you get closer to that retirement date they purchase a higher percentage of bonds over stocks. So if you want a longer period of time of them purchasing stocks pick a fund that is 5-10 years past your retirement so you get an extra 5-10 years of them purchasing stocks instead of bonds. I Plan to retire 2055 I am in a 2065 fund right now.

Will they offer a company match in the 401(k)?

Is there other companies or groups that have something similar to 401K but post tax? Like they'll match $/% how much I put in? Is there such a thing?
@alrocky Жыл бұрын
Most companies that offer (traditional) 401(k) plans also offer Roth [post tax] 401(k) option. Some companies offer company 401(k) match

@Nursemomi25 Жыл бұрын
Hi, this video is very helpful questions though so if your company matches up to 4% then you put in 4%, in the future if u decided to put up to 10% does that mean the company matches only stops at 4%?tia
@lindyhaunschild10915 жыл бұрын
Thank you. And I'm struggling with understanding. Can you give an example please with all the math? You go a bit fast for me. Translate this, "Company B provides a 75% match on first 8% of base pay that employees save in their VIP"......I don't get it. Thank you in advance.
@alrocky4 жыл бұрын
Assuming $60k salary, 8% is $4,800. 75% of $4,800 is $3,600. If employee contributes 8% of salary (which equals) $4,800 to 401(k), the employer matches 75% ($4,800 x 0.75 =) $3,600 to the employee's 401(k).

Bro, you’ve already missed out on a few years of compound interest. I recommend you start right away. If you wait 7 more years you’ve potentially missed out on a couple hundred thousand. Yes a 6% match is good. My job offers a 5% match. Start contributing. let it grow and compound over the next 20 years and I promise you’ll be set for life.
