How do you keep from getting dirt in the paint? It looks like your shop looks like mine, no paint booth. I always end up with trash and dirt in mine.
@GarageNoise3 жыл бұрын
Most trash comes from you or the vehicle. I blow off the vehicle real well before masking. All jamb and seams get blown out, anywhere dirt might hide. I try to blow it off outside. I also make sure its masked well so no trash is able to blow out of a gap. I do get some trash but you get some in a booth as well. You could also wet down the floor. Hope this helps thank's for watching and being part of the channel!
@michaelchamberlain4077 ай бұрын
Blow yourself off well too. Trash can come off your closes. I paint out on the floor also and my buddy has a booth at his shop and always complains my jobs come out cleaner than his. My theory is in a open shop as this there’s a lot less air movement or draw across the vehicle as opposed to a booth which are typically 30’x14’ or so and the exhaust fan draws a huge amount of air from outside the booth into a comparably small square box. Even though the booth has filters, it’s still not 100% filtering all dust. So theoretically you’re drawing all the air from inside the shop across your paint. If this makes sense? It’s the best way I know how to explain it.

So you don’t use any blending clear when you color blend ? Does that leave a nice transition without overspray?
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
I do use color blender, I have several videos on that topic ,but I don't always use it depends on the color and temperature. Appreciate your comment and the support!

Chris, what happens if the flued setting is set to full or wide open when spraying clear coat?
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
You can spay with it wide open most painters do. More clear coat will be applied so you want o spray a bit quicker.
@ricky.23786k Жыл бұрын
Exactly! You’re right Chris most painters do that way, but they need to a bit quicker because it creates sagging or running clear coat.

My garage is too small and full so I'm thinking about using one of those pop up 10 foot square pavilions and covering it with plastic and painting the front then the back. I am thinking to paint it to the back of the front doors then the back doors and the hatchback. Hopefully not too much dust gets in. I did my wife's 2020 corolla bumper last year after she backed into a tree so hopefully a whole car won't be too much. It's an old Focus so it's not valuable, lol.

Nice work. i would like to know how do you prevent dust nips due to ure spraying in a garage area with out spray booth?
@GarageNoise3 жыл бұрын
There's no way to totally prevent dust or trash in the paint even in a booth you get some trash. There are a few things to do , blow the car off really well . All body gap near where yor painting, wherever dirt can hide. Blow yourself off ,wet floor down. Make sure you have clean/dry air to paint with. Hope this helps

A 1k primer? Technically no, it could have a bad reaction to the primer and wrinkle.

Yes but your dry time would be slower . I wouldn't do any more than that tho.

Great so always 600 to prep old paint for new clear? Can you do 800-1000 or will it peel? I noticed when you scuff up the old paint it wasn't always flat and there were some shiny spots and you can see scratches. When you reclear it will fill all those sand scratches and imperfections 100%? Or will you still see some sand scratches or fine streaks in the sun?
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
Not sure about what you see in the video but you don't want any shiny spots. 800-1000 is fine as well. You won't see any scratches under clear with 600 or 800-1000. Appreciate your comment brother!

Excellent job Chris. Im starting the bodywork on my 04 GMC and stripping it down to primer substrate or metal. Is it best to use a 2K epoxy then a high build for the blocking. Im learning a lot from you. Thank you

If your going down to bare metal on the truck than yes 2k epoxy primer.

What is a drop coat ? What is a medium coat ?

Good question, is a final coat on the blend area to help the orientation of metallics and the blend . One coat about 6-10 inches away from panel. Sometimes called an orientation coat.

Here is a link to the mask I used. Works really well. amzn.to/3rhB3V5 As far as the reducer yes you can use slow in that situation. It's always better to use a slower reducer for the temp your spraying in.

Those 3M guns are nice. Wonder if they come as a set? For primer, clear or paint. Is there a faster way to sand an old car than using a DA? Takes awhile, lol.

DA takes to long in old cars you better get a dewalt DWE6401DS disc sander + replace 5" for 6" backing pad +soft pad and sand the car with 180 these dewalt tool is very powerful you are going to thank me latter is what i use in old classic cars.

I would say be careful using a grinder you don't want to heat up the panel you could warp it! I would stick with a orbital an use 36 grit paper.

No way shops take this much time. They do a quick filler and primer and blend spray. Overspray and dust everywhere.
