Jonathan, I again seem to be finding your older videos. Needed to find one for a totally non aviation friend of mine. He wanted to know how onboard computers "tell" the aircraft where to go when AP 1 or two are active. Well! this video is a superlative example of a "how to". Yes, of course much needs to be pre set up before keying in FMC (unless Co flight plans are used - easier for actual drivers reducing so much redundant time before any pushback request - AND dispatchers are SO helpful in this regard - loved getting most of that delivered (:-))) PS: Also liked the cold/dark bit at the beginning. You are indeed a sim expert - especially for someone who has no pilot certificates especially in transport machines. Cheers!

Excellent video!! I've watched dozens of videos about the FMC, and you are the only one to explain that dashes (- - - - -) are optional fields, and square boxes are mandatory fields. I've always wondered about that, and you've cleared it up for me. Thank you.

EXCELLENT tutorial on the 737-800 Zibo mod's Flight Management Computer (FMC), with a bit on its Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) . This is actually the best of several I've followed, with lots of helpful pointers and explanations. THANKS, Jonathan.

What I like is the fact you explain why you press a particular button, not just press A, then B, then C. If one understands the process everything else follows.

Before anybody comments on it - I *know* I chose the wrong ILS at Birmingham - I should have picked runway 15. Let's call that homework - to figure out how you remove a programmed procedure (you just delete the legs, and then re-choose the arrival procedure) :) Here are some timings for things to watch: 4:04 - Position Initialisation 5:47 - Setting the Route 6:39 - Stay away from Company Route! 6:53 - Performance Initialisation 10:25 - N1 Limit Calculations 10:47 - Take-Off Configuration 12:43 - Departure and Arrival Configuration 14:09 - Adding and Editing Waypoints and Resolving Discontinuities 18:41 - Stepping through to validate the Flight Plan

Thanks so much. Very simple, concise steps for a newcomer such as I am, for learning to program the FMS. I was flying a C-172 in the early '70's with steam gauges and basic instrumentation. All this new avionics is a steep learning curve, adding in age of 64 and the brain just doesn't work as well. Thanks again

I was keen to understand how to load a flight plan previously created in Little Nav Map. Frustratingly the Menu button and one other were not on the FMS. I eventually found the user guide for this FMS and discovered that bizarrely the previously created flight plans are accessed through Route Plan>Co Pilot. Not sure of the logic there as Menu seemed much more sensible, Anyway, managed to load the flight plan and now onto working out how to engage autopilot and a whole host of other challenges.

The cherry on the top of the cake now would be a tutorial about how to make a perfect tutorial as you do!!! Brilliant as always! Can I dare to ask questions here? When you enter the frequencies for the ILS, is there a Morse code sound like in the Cessna Garmin G 1000 audible? And also is it possible to make a flight plan with LNM or Simbrief or Navigraph 8, save it and enter it directly into the FMC? Thank you Jonathan.
@jonbeckett Жыл бұрын
There is indeed - the audio annunciator is typically not switched on, or very quiet - but yes - you can get it to play the morse.
@jonbeckett Жыл бұрын
You can do simbrief intregration in the 737. It's a bit convoluted. The easiest way is via LittleNavMap - but even then you have to know how to finish programming the missing bits of the route (simbrief doesn't give you everything). I find it easier to just program it myself.

A great video. It would be good if you had a full one "from cold & dark" to a successful landing. (2) I can't find how to switch between windows when the FX is running. Thank you, Johnathan!

Great video, how do you get the TCAS OFF display removed or on?
@jonbeckett3 жыл бұрын
TACS in on the central console - usually to the far right, towards the back. It should have a master on/off knob, and another knob that rotates to TA/RA. When it is on, range rings will appear around the aircraft on the primary flight display.

Just to point out, on the Zibo you DO NOT add fuel and payload through the X-Plane interface, you MUST do it through the EFB.

In the real plane if you do your DEP (SID) info after your takeoff speeds have been entered it will delete them. Rarely do we go through the page order. When building the route is when we throw the departure in if we have a clearance already.
@jonbeckett3 жыл бұрын
Makes total sense - the departure could dictate a different runway. It's interesting actually that the runway in the init pages isn't a required field.

How did you figure out the SIDS for the departure runway?
@jonbeckett4 жыл бұрын
Sorry I didn't notice this comment beforre - I use LittleNavMap - you can load the scenery from your simulator into LittleNavMap, which contains the SIDS - within the map, you can right click on an airport that you have marked as your departure point, and show departure procedures (you can also search for them in the search dialog).
