Additionally, please remember that this is a video for entertainment purposes, which tries to explain figure skating in the simplest terms possible. it'll probably be a while before i actually watch this video, though i'm definitely adding it to my Watch Later... it's nothing to do with your fantastic content, the entire Olympics fiasco just has me burnt out and disillusioned on figure skating. it's hard to enjoy their skating skills when these CHILDREN are breaking down right in front of the world and it's never been clearer how disposable they are to their coaches and some of the shitty jokes/takes coming from global media not familiar at all with the complicated aspects of figure skating are just the cherry on top :/

My heart broke seeing Kamila break down. They tried to “protect” her, but caused so much more harm to her. Then seeing Anna look so lost after she had won GOLD is incredibly sad. Then Sasha’s breakdown as well. These poor girls.

Sasha truely felt like she’d been set up to fail. That’s what hurts me the most. She saw Anna’s score and just lost it. Because up until that point she felt like she’d done it. She was going to win. And all she could do was watch as her own teammate took that away from her.

the only question is where were results of doping comitions. If they wrapped them earlier, Camila drama wouldn't happen. Actually, other drugs users in russia were severely punished. So, IDK why camilla was so supported... Maybe cause they knew, that the war is coming... (don't tell about that. believe it dioesn't happen. world friendship candies.) But OK. American gymnast Naomi Osaka seems to use drugs too, but nobody accused her. Well, paradox is that nobody knows the truth except commitie, and they can say to journalist what they want, so actually this is the reasons i don't have emotions about those dramas. And figure skating is not my favorite sport, tbh. It is difficult to consider as a sports cause marks are super subjective. (i don't deny absolutely extreme hardwork of skaters).

I had never heard of Elizaveta, and watching her made me realise what's lost by not having any adults considered viable for competition. The kids are incredible, but she has a poise and elegance that gives her performance a different kind of depth.

I mean I understand that Sasha fell in the short program, but there were also a couple of edge calls that Anna should have gotten in her free program jumps that the judges just completely ignored. Considering how close their final scores were, I honestly can't tell if the result was because of Sasha's fall or because of the way Anna got scored. At the end of the day I feel bad for both girls (and Kamila). Each of their reactions before the medal ceremony clearly reflects the toxicity of the environment they've been training in for all those years.

@@jsc2606 these athletes are given puberty blockers, heart medication, and food substitutes under the guise that these are vitamins or health supplements. These coaches are parents to them so of course they’re going to trust them (or else Eteri will conduct a smear campaign against them on state sponsored media). Also it’s not a child’s responsibility to memorize hundreds of banned substances, it’s the medics and federation’s.

That really pissed me off. It reminded me of how Team Tutberidze has no problem badmouthing their own students (most of whom are kids) to the press, never taking any accountability for their actions. Leaving this 15-year old child by herself in a foreign country at the biggest competition of her life to deal with all that media scrutiny is simply unforgivable. I also firmly believe that Kamila was not the only one in that team to have been doping given who their team doctor is, I believe that Kamila was simply the only one to have gotten caught. It wouldn't surprise me if Anna and Sasha were also forced to dope at those Games.

@@jsc2606 i think most reasonable people agree that she shouldn’t have been allowed to compete. she’s still a child under extreme scrutiny from the public and those around her. there was a way to handle this situation without traumatizing Kamila and instead they forced her to throw her routine so she wouldn’t medal and publicly humiliating her even more. and her coaches didn’t even support her afterwards. i think there’s a way for both sides of this issue to be correct. no she shouldn’t have been competing at the olympics. yes she and all of the athletes deserved much better.

As a Russian, this is not solely an Eteri Problem- it’s a Russian problem. Womens athleticism is just viewed different here (and that’s not a good thing.) I’m a ballet dancer and Russian trained, and a lot of young dancers are very thin and very overly flexible. That’s mainly how they get high extensions and high jumps, they don’t build as much muscle as western dancers. That all works fine until they’re young adults and go off to get company contracts in the west when they don’t perform to the ridiculous standards russian companies set especially for body weight. A lot of Russian dancers I know in the west don’t manage to build a solid career, not because they’re untalented, but because they basically have to start over building muscle strength once they’re adults and even then, their careers are cut short and most will retire from the stage before age 30, while western ballerinas manage to stay on stage until 40.

When I see these situations that happen in Russian sport, I can't forget Elena Mukhina, a gymnast from the Soviet Union who ended up becoming quadriplegic after an accident during training on the eve of the 1980 Olympics, and this was hidden from the public for years. It's a very sad story, because it was used a lot when she won medals, and then she was discarded and forgotten when there was no longer any "usefulness" in the sport... as if she were an object. It's sad that at a time when there's a lot of talk about mental health in sport, the athlete is the last to be considered (and I hope this process happens in Russia too, especially in this period where the country's athletes are banned from competing internationally for cause of the invasion of Ukraine - which, ironically, made figure skating feel exciting again).

Honestly, I am SO PROUD of Alena Kostornaia and Elizaveta Nugumanova for speaking up about the abuses that they have suffered at the hand of their coaches. The fact that Alena has stated how in favour she is about raising the age limit to compete on the senior level really speaks volumes about the child exploitation she endured. Seeing as how all the adults in her life have let her down, I hope Alena knows her worth and that she matters as an individual. Also hoping that she is better treated by Elena Buianova whom is now coaching her.

@@bloodsugar7536 Yeah, while Alena does have a fanbase in Russia, there are still SO MANY Eteribots that will defend her abusive training methods if it means winning medals for Russia even at the expense of these kids' physical and mental health (Evgenia got SO MUCH HATE as well when she left Eteri after the 2018 Olympics to train in Canada). Tatiana Tarasova also continues to piss me the hell off 😡 Apart from saying that the ISU is "raging war" on Russia and how unfair it is that their government-employed skater can't compete when their own president is killing Ukrainian civilians as we speak, she also stated that Liza's abuse story should just be ignored because she is "unimportant" since she hasn't won any major ISU medals (as though that makes her voice less important 😑).

@@lyramusica4485 As russian, I could say that abusive training is usual feature for many competitive activities in Russia (not only sports, but music, dancing etc). Blaming kids is usual thing here too. It was like that for many years and this is why the oldest persons of russian fs community (Tarasova included) are acting like that. And that's... well, the whole idea of that system makes me really angry cause I was raised in that culture too. The aftermaths are still with me. I just hope that now when everybody sees the problem it's going to get better. The war makes everything harder though. Many russian civilians are completely against that war but protesting is very dangerous now and it gets worse.

I don't agree with you about Nugumanova. As I understand it, her coach simply said that if she wants to compete with the very best in the world, she has to lose some weight. Would a premier athlete prefer a coach that didn't tell the truth for fear of being labeled sexist? What does Nugumanova want in skating? What does she want? And seriously, is telling someone that weight matters in skating and that IF she wants to win, she needs to lose a few pounds really THAT bad? What would you think of a male athlete that criticized his coach for saying the same thing? You'd think he is a snowflake. I lost a lot of respect for Elizaveta when she said that.

I was shocked to hear her confirm how Ana Scherbakova took the most abuse than any of the other girls. This abuse was also reflected in her 2022 Gold medal winning performance. As Eteri practically abandoned her and just went backstage to deal with whatever issues the press was concentrating on. Especially after Kamila literally fell apart during her first Olympics.

Team Tutberidze acknowledged the hip injury of Daria by calling he a ‘fragile girl’ after she performed on their stars on ice show. Like, please. She isn’t fragile and was probably a healthy young person before they broke her with their barbaric training methods. The only thing that’s fragile are these coaches’ egos.

I’m not going to not watch someone’s performance just because I don’t like their coaching staff…who the heck does that? Would I support team Tutberidze by watching their ice shows live? Same, especially because you can see that her technique is so much better than the other Eteri girls. When she jumps she uses a lot of power but not only from her back which is the problem for the Eteri girls. For example, if you compare Anna’s quads to Alexandra’s. I also think that her going to Plushenko also helped her on her technique so that may also be the reason.

While I do agree that her technique appears to be better than many of the Eteri girls (she even has a correct lutz takeoff), part of me wonders if she will further injure herself from doing all these quads as she did earlier this season. Her landings appear to have gotten a bit rougher. I know that Sasha wants to always wants to perform a lot of quads in one program but it does make me worry for her health (also keep in mind that since she was 13, she has been making these decisions to jump various quads, probably unaware of the potential longterm consequences it could have on her body). On a sidenote, this is no hate to Sasha but rather the corrupt judging system, I do wish she would improve her PCS. Her programs have little to no interpretation/choreography (part of that can be blamed on Dani G. though) so it upsets me how the judging system tries to tell us that her artistry is the standard (ex: rewarding her much higher than Wakaba and You, whom are both very beautiful skaters).

I want to make a small correction, Mark and other male skaters did NOT sign up for military training. Its a law in Russia that all men who turn 18 must complete a year of military training, so thats what they are doing right now

Those who are interested in the puberty-suppressing regime at team Tudberidze should compare pictures of Kamila, Sasha and Anna before and after the short holiday abroad they had last month. It is remarkable how much curvier they got in those few weeks. I cannot say whether they were on puberty blockers (illegal) or overtrained and underfed (not illegal but highly frowned upon), but their bodies clearly had a big reaction at being "set free" for just a very short time. To be clear: I'm not calling them fat, Anna really looks like a healthy young woman now, and so do the others.

they really dont need puberty blockers, just keep them underfed and keep minimal fat % is enough for girls to delay puberty. Women and girls need more body fat for their bodies to function properly, even body builders will tell you they lose their periods in the months around competitions when they drop their body fat, and girls bodies not developing through puberty properly is very common to see in conditions like anorexia in teen girls.

Eteri misses the point, though. What’s “lost out” for Evgenia is not that she didn’t get the gold in 2018. It was that at 19, that was the last Olympic season for her. She should have had another shot. That’s not a normal timespan for an athlete

Based on the brutal training methods of her team, it seems like they push ur body to the limits such that their window of opportunity to snatch Olympic gold is shortened dramatically (one shot? Maybe 2 if your birthday coincides with 2 Olympic seasons) and competing as even a late-teens athlete is a lost cause.

Not sure that's the case, there was the medal ceremony after the final skater to be had since Valieva wasn't on the podium and she was supposed to be part of it. Which I honestly thought watching it real-time that they should have told her to go backstage and remove her from the 'flower' ceremony

sasha spoke about the whole thing and still is upset that the cameras followed her. saying that they wouldnt allow her to leave and cry in private. stating that she didnt want to be filmed :/

When it happened she wanted to go out of there and cry in private and they literally wouldn’t let her out and then since they wouldn’t let her out she asked the cameras not to follow her and film her…they didn’t listen and as she tried to move to different places they literally kept following her. You could TELL she didn’t want to be filmed cuz she even found a little corner to cry in and she was trying to hide her face and even then a camera was still shoved in her face when u can clearly see she was trying to hide from them. The cameras purposely would not leave her alone.

She wasn't saying anything crazy, just an emotional release, basically blaming everyone and saying that Eteri somehow knew that she wouldn't win, if she just listened to the trainers she would have had a better chance to win. The real reason for her emotional reaction was because she thought that by landing all of her quads she would automatically blow everyone out of the water, even a perfect Kamila, which wasn't the case at all.

But a lot of people in Russian figure skating community knew that she wouldn't win even if she landed all of her quads under a current scoring system, first because the math doesn't add up, when you replace high scoring triple combos like 3lz+3lo with quads the risk/reward ratio just goes down the drain. Also you need to be strong not only in free skate, but in the short program as well, her junior layouts were much more suitable for her, Lz+loop in the short as the main combo and 2-3 quads + Lz+loop in the second half in the free and just work with that and polish and keep perfecting it, she'd be nearly unbeatable. But she likes jumping and is very stubborn which is cool and all, many people love her for this very reason, but you can't really blame anyone when this doesn't work out.

There were photos shown when the girls flew back to Russia where Anna has her medal around her neck when taking photos with others, but when Trusova is in the same photos she immediately puts her medal back into her jacket. I don't like her skating technique, but she's such a lovely young lady and so considerate

Sasha wasn’t having a meltdown, she was having a mental breakdown. Because she was told all season that if she lands all 5 quads, she would have won. Edit: I don’t think I made this detailed enough so here : basically Sasha was wanting to do more quads when her coaches were against it. But when the Olympics rolled around, Sasha had all her quads planned. And on top of that eteri told her if she lands all 5 quads she would walk away with gold. I hope that cleared things up 😭

And the fact that her coaches don’t give her good choreography is also a reason. Her short program is full of artistry and is one of my faves but if you compare her free to Anna’s free or Kamilla’s the choreography is just not there. Maybe if they gave her better choreo then she wouldn’t have to rely so much on her quads.

Daniel Weiss (I think it was him, I am not good with names, when I can't see a face...) who commented figure skating for the ARD (germany) put all my emotions into words. First, the flinch when Kamila fell again (because I did too), then, after he said that she is still a girl, 15, and if he were her father that he would have already packed her up and brought her home after what had already happend, because this is too much for any child to handle. And he basically yelled at Tutberidze for not comforting her after, he begged her to hug her and not just stand there, again saying Kamila is a child and needs that now... And then, in the studio, Katarina Witt, cried. They were both mad, so mad and so sorry and sad for her. And she also shat on the whole system in russia and the pressure they put on young athletes especially with quads at that young age and said that they need to bumb up the age barrier for seniors so that they don't go as hard on them.

If you look at the girl who hurt her hip, she already had a pad on it for pain (I’m saying this as a former ballet dancer who has hurt her hips more than once) having hip pain is one of the worst part for figure staking because of the movements. Not only that but already being in pain and then hurting it again normally means life long damage which may mean that she will never be able to stake the same way again.

Another thing: the poor girl was embarrassed internationally by competing with an active doping investigation. A child being faced with SO MUCH scrutiny being held in the spotlight against anyone’s better judgment. And if the medal ceremony was postponed it would’ve been “her fault”. Her Olympic debut and her presence is preventing fellow athletes from receiving their awards. Thats just humiliating! It would have been so much better for her to have just gone home. She could’ve handled the investigation and rumors over time and train for the next season. I think the Trusova refusing to return to her room after the ceremony was said to be a false rumour. Apparently, what kept her there for hours was the drug testing and that nobody helped her get home so she had to figure out the bus herself (according to another volunteer that disproved the initial wechat outburst rumour).

Every single girl involved deserved more, they are all so insanely talented and it is so so sad how physically and mentally damaged they are just to get tossed aside after a few years of fame. I followed Kamila since she was 12 years old, she was a remarkable talent, her artistry was something else. Hello everyone, just thought everyone should know. CAS ruled that Kamila Valieva was “correctly disqualified.” And her performance in the team event in Beijing was invalidated. This means that the Russian figure skating team is going to be stripped of their gold medals. And the USA and Japan figure skating will be awarded Gold and silver respectively at the 2024 Paris games some time this week. CAS is reportedly still ruling on if Russia will be awarded bronze or if the Canadian team will get it.

CAS making their decision claiming that pulling kamila out of the competition would be 'irreparable harm' instead of the doping of a 15 year old in the first place, and the obvious years of abuse that is being a skater in team tutberidze, has still stuck with me the most. Just how many people despite all the craziness seemed to entirely miss the point. Missing that kamila probably wasn't the only one doping, that Sasha and Anna probably were too, that these girls are being starved, not even allowed to drink water on competition days. The mere fact that aliona broke BOTH of her arms in training in just a few months. The fact that we finally saw firsthand just the sheer agony and trauma of these girls. And yet there haven't been consequences. It took a literal international war started by Russia for their athletes in the sport to have any setbacks. And just the sheer possibility that the usfs might allow eteri's daughter to represent them, hell, they might even allow tutberidze to coach. It makes me sick. I genuinely got into figure skating for the art and the interesting stories around athletes to follow. But that's not what this is anymore. These aren't crazy stories for us to make memes about on Twitter. It's plain abuse that's happening right in front of our Eyes. I might keep watching for a while now that Russians athletes are banned (wich is for the better in so many ways, let's be honest here). But I've just gotten to the point where I feel this sport is rotten to the core. It glorifies and ignores abuse for the sake of making money, and the corruption runs too deep. I hope that figure skating is reaching a breaking point like gymnastics did a few years ago, where it can start to change for the good of the athletes. Gymnastics used to be very similar in that it was very toxic and corrupt, coaches abusing gymnasts was an open secret, it was considered a sport for young teenage girls, and the ideal body type was these tiny underweight girls. It was extremely difficult on the body and most gymnasts had to retire around 20 due to injuries. Medals and results were far more important than the actual gymnast's health; just look at Kerri Strug. But over the last decade the culture has really been changing, and now the US Olympic team is 80% grown women in their twenties. The environment at the Championships and Trials was so supportive, with gymnasts (who were competing for the same Olympic slots!) coaching each other and giving advice after falls, injuries, or weak routines. Obviously there are still issues, as there likely always will be with elite sports, but I think elite gymnastics is so so so much better now than it was back then. I hope figure skating can have a cultural revolution soon too because this is just horrific.

I've been a casual fan of skating since the last Olympics, I've been cheering for Anna for several years now. I'm glad that she won, but five months later I'm still quite frankly sickened by the events that took place at these games. I've never had this feeling about sports before, (although I'm still a teenager so I wouldn't know that much) and I think the sheer injustice of their whole thing is what's stuck with me. It’s bc there are drugs forbidden only during competitions (Like some ADHD meds) and others are forbidden at any time, and that’s Kamila’s case. But I agree with you. We know the whole dynamic of the relationship between an athlete and coaches, specially when we’re talking about a 15/16 year old girl. They have NO choice, they have NO power to say no. Thanks for this being in Australia it’s difficult to find (and at times understand) what’s going on behind the scenes. Watching things like the Skating Lesson a lot of what they say assumes a knowledge of the sport, that we don’t have here. They have only just started in the past few years televising ISU events on telly. For much of my life we only saw figureskating on tv at the Olympics. One thing that I always wonder is why do they all have such long hair. I heard that in the tudberitze team they “forbid” any weight changes over 200gr of the weight they are supposed to have, because “even a gram” makes a difference in your ability to jump quads. But then, why the long hair? I bet it weights more than 200gr. I know it is a stupid question, and I’m not saying they should shave the skaters hair or anything, I only wonder because, why taking meal portions away or having underage girls not eating or drinking before competitions, and then allowing them to have waist or knee length hair? Is it because physics or something? Is it to show that they are healthy because of the idea that people with eating disorders can’t grow their hair? Or in reality is the whole “200gr” thing bullshit and tiny weight changes don’t really affect your ability to jump and everything is a control thing

Russian beauty standards dictate long hair in women. It's a pretty big deal. So while some girls in the UK/US will pay for lip fillers, face massive pain and the prospect of death for a BBL, or suffer through a diet for beauty, the Russian girls will want to grow and maintain long hair, even if it means they have to lose weight.

personally i dont think the weight change would aggect your quad ability, because if that were true, bigger male skaters would have to lose a ton of weight to be able to jump quads. figureskating as a sport and culture has always had issues with disordered eating, and if you look at the diet of an international ballet dancer, they eat a lot more than an olympic skater. part of me thinks the only reason quads arent as normalized with women or its believed thay women cant to quads like men can is because of the pressure to barely eat, thus creating a limit on the amount of muscle you can build

As a formerly eating disordered person i have some thoughts on this!! :D First off, hair weighs less than you would think. Even cutting off a lot of it doesn't change the weight on the scale, at least not in a meaningful way. Also seconding that other comment about long hair definetely being the beauty standard for woman in Russia. Second, and way more significant: (Obligatory "I'm no expert but" here, these are just my thoughts based on my experience with & education on eating disorders) I cannot imagine the 200g thing affecting jumps is true. I think that's a myth they tell the girls to make them want to eat less and adhere to the strict food rules, or something they tell the press to justify these rules. The intense pressure to control what and how much the girls eat /has/ to be in order to keep them tiny not just weight-wise (obviously being slim is more advantageous to this sport than being heavy set) but to stunt their growth; keep them short and hold off puberty for as long as possible. Female athletes in most disciplines go through a phase of performing a lot worse when the body's center of gravity changes due to changes in body shape, and it takes months to years to retrain all the movements / body control they used to have before. Generally speaking, the more malnourished a girl is, the later the body begins puberty, the longer it takes to finish it, and the less full hips/thighs/chest they might end up developing. This is beneficial for performance bc after around age 18-21 healing begins to slow down and minor aches and pains can begin developing, injuries are more likely to never heal so well as if nothing happened, etc. If the girls were to hit puberty in the same time frame they would if they weren't starved, they might not have the time to rebuild their body control & muscle memory for the different body physics they have to work with. At least not before that other potential performance decline of getting ""old"" hits. So team tutberitze might have decided the best course of action is to disregard all future health complications and to just burn out the girls bodies as long as they're young enough to keep pushing through it, benefitting from the better energy, healing & the less feminine body shape that is, from a pure physics standpoint, way better for high rotation jumps. They also teach the girls that technique for quads that's heavily prerotated and hinges on them being tiny and light, rather than the "clean" technique without this reliance on prerotation we see in male skating (bc the combination of men's muscle mass and body shape / center of gravity makes this a lot more possible for them). About the no water on competition days, the only reason I can think of is how bodybuilders and super trained actors dehydrate super heavily to make all the muscles look way more defined? Maybe it has to do with wanting them to look "their best", have them look even more slim to get that extra definition in their lines, making their arms and legs look even longer?

Kamila Valieva’s free program should not be described as “bad”. It was still a fantastic skate which simply was not preformed to perfection but still was good enough to get her 4th place at the olympics. That just tells you that the skate was very good regardless of whether or not it met expectations.

@@bbl1188 this "robbed" thing you people go on and on chanting is really annoying. FS has a complex score system. The system has human faults inside bc is judged by humans. In all of this, there are other elements that gives you points. Which is literally the reason why Trusova didn't beat Scherbakova while doing an incredible program. We can discuss about how ISU itself is cryptic and vague about how they write the rules and are destroying the sport from the inside, but this is not on Kamila shoulders tbh. Also this competition was heated and full of very talented skaters, but they can't all win. That's the truth. And I'm saying this as a Wakaba fan. I'm super proud of her, bc knowing her story and her constant issues with injuries and inconsistencies, she managed to get to Beijing and place in the top 10, which is already an amazing result.

One thing I would like to add though, I don't think that I agree with the assessment that tutberidze was really consoling kamila and helping her properly for the ladies event after the failed doping test in Beijing. They literally left her to walk through the mixed media zone ALL BY HERSELF, throwing a 15yr old to the wolves, crying, just to make some weird political gesture/ to keep her own hands clean as much as she could

domestic non-isu competitions allow for the individual country’s skating fed to change the minimum age. adeliya petrosian, freshly turned 14 year old, was recently named to the national team alongside sasha, liza, anna, and more. she’s already jumping multiple quads and earlier this season she placed 4th in russian nationals (yes in the senior division) behind the eteri olympic team.

What happened was a tragedy for all involved and the adults are the only ones to blame. I felt awful for Kamila because she was, since she was 13, probably the best I’d ever seen and by the time of the Olympics was without question the best woman skater to ever hit the ice. And it wasn’t because of her jumps. She has a fluidity on the ice and an attunement to the music that makes her absolutely magical to watch. Her performances are just beautiful.

Watching this on live television.... You just had to be there. The worst and most suspicious thing of it all is that after everything, Anna then was suddenly able to land her quads again and look more lively on ice, with more stamina. After she couldn't even win a tiny-tiny challenger competition previously that season, the Budapest Trophy ('21 October), because Maia Khromykh beat her with a clean skate! But yeah sure Anna was _not_ drugged... Anyway, just knowing she refused to meet Putin has now raised her in my eyes. She was never my favorite but all kudos to her.

I think Kamila was so tired at her FP because of the withdrawal of that banned heart medication she was on before the doping test. It's true that she may have slept worse, or have trouble focusing due to the doping scandal, but from what I saw, she was absolutely exhausted and struggling to breathe. And it's not like she hadn't performed that particular program yet, because she did in the team event, and did so well. After the scandal, I imagine they wouldn't let her take more medication, so imo that's why she looked so exhausted at the end.

Also when she finishes her program and approaches Eteri, she asks Kamila why she stopped trying after a while, so I think it wasn't Team Tutberidze's plan having her lose on purpose

Get your facts straight. She wasn't taking anything during the Olympics or in any other competition. The only time she took something was Russian Nationals, that's it. The test was just delayed which is why it only got revealed during the Olympics

The Empress is my favorite. She has such a powerful, sensual nature when she performs that only comes from maturity. I’m still sad she didn’t get an Olympic opportunity. I’m holding out hope she can get a chance in 2026. I will say for the girl with the hip problem.... it was likely due to malnutrition. Based on what you’ve shared previously about the diet of Team T, it’s highly likely shes not getting enough nutrients especially to sustain a training regimen as rigorous as we’ve been told. So even if she had a chronic issue, malnutrition was likely a factor. Finally, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again... it was effed upppp of Russia to give Kamila the honor of being the first female to land a quad in the olympics when Trusova is literally nicknamed the quad queen and is partly responsible for the quad revolution in female figure skating.

Even if everyone know that how eteri does things is badly for the skaters this doesn't fix the problem. As someone who is somewhat in the competitive scene in figure skating (as in just outside the competitive scene but I am involved, train with and am friends with the people in the competitive scene). It's so tempting to ignore all the warning signs and look at the russians as an example. There is now one coach our whole country is crazy about. And they told me "today I did 120 tripples in 90 minutes with skater x" and yeah its impressive but for why? And I hear children tak about how they need to lose weight and how some skaters feel pain in their leg when training with this person. And I still train with them and started watching my weight more seriously. People recognising eteri's methods are questionable doesn't mean people will not follow what she does

Before Tutberidze, Irina Slutskaya was the face Russian women's figure skating . She represented the country with pure poise and class. Now the maturity level is lower than toddlers and tiaras. I do not blame the athletes at all and respect their dedication and passion for the sport of figure skating. Tutberidze will take all the credit for the wins and no responsibility for the losses.

I followed all this live and it was a strange experience. After Kamila was accused of doping, Russia started releasing these military videos with soldiers "protecting" innocent figure skaters. Knowing they were planning to invade Ukraine in not even 2 weeks makes it even more sick. I respect Anna so much. She is gentle and very intelligent and classy. She was trying her harderst to give Sasha and Kamila space when it was supposed to be her moment. And her refusing to meet with Putin makes me like her even more. She deserved that medal. I feel so bad for Sasha and Kamila. True, Kamila shouldn't have been allowed to compete, but at the same time being 15 at the biggest event of your life and seeing your promised dream turn to ashes must be agony. All the adults have failed her. Sasha's anger is justified. She knows her only strenght is jumping, so she decided to push herself harder than anyone else on jumping because the coaches told her she would win if she landed all the quads. She was the favorite during the Junior years, but after that Alena, Anna and Kamila took away all her victories. It's understandable she snapped here considering how toxic the environment in that camp is. And shout out to Kaori. She really saved not only the competition by making the podium and allowing the medals to be given away, but also by bringing the Olympic spirit. She was celebrating with Wakaba who was so happy for her. Kaori had done something literally no one had even believed was possible and she was still trying not to be TOO excited being respectful of all the drama around her. She was the first to congratulate Anna and then she basically went to cry on the floor in a corner not to draw attention 🤣 I love her so much, she was the only one left standing after all of the controversy and she deserves every bit of success she has had since then

i read somewhere that the personal meeting with p*tin was voluntary, meaning that yes perhaps only select few can meet him, but those select few also have to quarantine such and such (because p*tin was paranoid abt his health apparently). So sasha only came for medals, but anna abstained everything, and honestly idk if kami felt peer pressured or just want to meet the president

Firstly, it was not the idea of Tutberidze's team to include Kamila in team competitions. This was decided by Figure Skating Federation of Russia. Tutberidze personally did not choose Kamila for team competitions instead of Trusova or Shcherbakova. It is foolish to believe that the coach has such an opportunity to choose who will perform both in the short and in the free programms. Kamila was chosen because she guaranteed the gold to the Russian team, but Tutberidze's group was not responsible for this. And I guess if Eteri could choose, Sasha would have been chosen for the free skate, but Russia needed guarantee and therefore they chose Kamila as the most stable figure skater. Secondly, Sasha's breakdown. In a recent interview, Sasha said that her family always demanded gold from her. She was encouraged to win gold medals, and that is why it was so important for Sasha to win the Olympics. Therefore, it is not entirely correct to say that the coaches are the only one who are responsible for Sasha's emotions. The family environment is also essential. But the situation with Kamila on the contrary is very complicated. It is necessary to check the coaching team and understand who is responsible for the doping.
