More skaters should talk about this topic. It takes me a bit to get all geared up put it's 100% worth it. I bought some shinguards as well, they saved me several times.

Awesome I’m 40 I both skateboard and aggressive in-line . I’m about to just now start wearing stuff due to having messed up knees , around8 concussions and had compound fracture on my wrist. I’m glad you went over the helmets too.

This vid is great so informative and I love that you’re not being condescending I’d be the idiot to put things on wrong when my son did hockey I put his pads in wrong and got some looks and I mean he’s 7 I’m a single mom who’s never done anything with gear 😂😂 I’m actually getting into skating so I can take him out to get more comfortable and I needed pads for myself so I don’t break something so thanks ❤

Hey Taryn! Forget the looks. Messing up is how we learn. At that, there’s nothing wrong with the process. We learn, we grow, we heal. Life is beautiful this way. The choice is simply yours. I’m grateful that your here sharing your experience. I hear you. I’m stoked your skating! Take it slow, have fun! If you need pointers along your journey, stay with me. Remain the supportive rock you are for your son! You’re doing the thing.✨ love, light, truth. 🌱 ONE

I haven't actually use any pads at any time in my skating time, except for wrist guards. I can't afford to get a broken wrist when I am an engineer. I've just recently got a Triple 8 helmet too, not used it yet though as I haven't done anything except flat skating

I tried the 187 pads but they fit really boxy which I didn't care for. Instead, I opted for Triple Eight KP22 knee pads. They're still bulkier than your typical entry level hard shell knee pad, but they have a lot of padding like the 187 without that boxy fit. Their velcro strapping lengths are awful though with the top strap being ridiculously long and bottom strap being on the verge of too short. Hasn't been an issue though.

I can confirm those pants saved my butt many times. However now I know they do not protect from getting a burn spot from sliding too many times down an Air Bag when training jumps... from all the injuries I could take from skating, burns never crossed my mind.

Haha Jordan so true. Burns are not fun, especially after in the shower. Yikes. Better to just get it over with and put the burn under the water fast. But little cherries on your lower back are a good feeling. Indication that you’re sending it! That’s how I feel anyway! Shred onnnn! One🌱

Where are your Tortoise padded shorts? I thought you had some of those.

I've used the Bumsavers and my kids use Tortoise Pads when we ice skate. My kids didn't enjoy skating with the cheap padded shorts but stopped crying with the Tortoise Pads. I wanted something more low profile which is why I opted for the Bumsavers, and they've worked well for the couple low speed/height falls I've had onto my butt. Probably would be better off with TP though if you're a beginner but you can't really hide them in jeans. Instead, you'd want something like baggy track pants, sweats, or shorts. Ass Armor shorts doesn't offer hip protection (which I'd definitely recommend as a beginner) but the rear end padding is decently thick with hard plastic and ample coverage while still being somewhat low profile. Ennui BLVD shorts are nice in that they offer both rear end and hip protection with hard plastic on top off (rate sensitive?) padding while being both extremely ventilated and decently low profile given the inclusion of hard plastic. The tailbone coverage is pretty minimal though.
