Beginning Knit Part 1: Casting On

Learn to knit with pencils. This course is taught by knitting with pencils, but you can always just use normal knitting needles if you choose.
This is the first in a series of videos for a free online beginning knit course.
If you are using pencils, create a stopper at the end of them to prevent your stitches from falling off. I just used tape to create my stoppers.
In this video, you will learn how to cast on and read a pattern.

Im having a really difficult time doing the second slip knot, I don't have the two loops to put the needle through

I'm sorry to hear that. You will only need to do one slip knot, and then you will begin to cast on. You cast on by creating that "slingshot" in your left hand to move your right needle through.

Can I use 2 or 3 thick threads??

Of course! It will be a little finnicky since you need to get your needles through 3 threads instead of one, but it will definitely work. Depending on how thick the threads are, you may also end up with a different fabric (looser = more flowy and less firm), but that's okay☺️

You can, but the holes in your work will appear larger and the fabric won’t be as stiff.
