Why use roving, though? It is much harder - especially for beginners - for 3D shaping. Carded Wool works so much better. Faster. You don't see the joints or where you added wool if you need to add a little for the right shape (eg. on the side of a face etc.) Roving has it's place, but carded is way better for needle felting 3D shapes. (of course in a school you provide what you have, just saying to anyone who is wanting to start needle felting: get CARDED wool, if you can. You will have much more fun and can create nicer things quicker.)
