Beginning our AUSTRALIA ERA

If you follow us on Instagram, you know that we sold our home back in August and we are going to be traveling around Australia and New Zealand until April! Sydney was such a fun (and exhausting) start - Next we head up to the Sunshine Coast to visit Australia Zoo! More videos to come. :) Xx - Hailey

I hope you guys get to have an authentic Aussie experience unlike most tourists since you will be here for an extended time! definitely get out of the cities and big towns, head to small coastal towns and campgrounds for a real wildlife experience while you are on the east coast! I hope you get a chance to head down to tassie, it is a real wonder of Aus.And of course if you can connect with indigenous culture and significant sites then that is even better. Have fun!

Yes, used to take my kids to Tumbalong Park when they were little. Also used to go myself to see free artist performances on weekends. Big names too, James Morrison, Tommy Emmanuel for instance. There's always something on in Sydney!! Enjoy!

With interest rates way up from where they were just a couple years ago, home sales, if not yet prices, are way down. Glad you were able to make the sale. It's not quite going to be like 2008 but there may be some deals when if/when you are looking again. In the meantime enjoy Australia/NZ and whatever you have lined up after that!

Brisbane is great!! Southbank is perfect for a swim in the city. All council parks and outdoor swimming areas are free. Go on the red ferry it’s also free and does the river/city loop. Southbank QAG and GOMA art galleries have children areas and The Qld museum is also there near the QPAC (theatres) Queens street mall is also a nice place to visit. Drive up Mt Cootha, go to The Gold Coast for a trip to the beach. Australia Zoo is North towards The Sunshine Coast. Theme parks are also fun but expensive for day trippers. Most locals often get an annual pass as it costs about the same as 2 day visits. (They’re closer to the Logan border than Gold Coast though so having your own car is best) Sea works is the only one right at the Gold Coast. Currumbin bird sanctuary is amazing closer to the Gold Coast and NSW border (but an easy car ride from Brissy or Goldie) I’m sure you’ve got your Brisbane itinerary planned so just enjoy. It can be nice weather or really hot in Brissy in Jan (gets even more humid in feb. but then has since cooler change in March)

Those long-legged birds are called Plovers and if you get near their nest they'll dive at you... just like the magpies. Just a little warning about them. Had plenty of them dive at me on the golf course when we get near nests.

We've has a pair of plovers nesting every year at our school in Melbourne for the past 17 years (I assume descendants of original pair) They leave the kids alone and everyone leaves them alone. Simples.

We took our children all over the world at the same age. Enriching, experiencing, opening their eyes, exposing them to languages and cultures. We thought. As adults, I asked them what they remember about it. 1. Crepes in Paris and walking down the Eiffel tower in the middle of a very icy winter. Because I hate heights and they found that very funny. But nothing else in Europe. 2. Seeing lions, zebras and giraffe in Africa and standing under the Victoria Falls getting soaked to the skin ( but don't remember the million other things we saw) 3. Standing on a platform as a Shinkansen went through a station at full speed in Japan ( but they don't remember all the trains we actually got on or the 60 squillion temples, or the food, or Mount Fuji, or the onsens, or the hiking) 4. Seeing bears in Canada (but nothing else about the whole trip) That's it. 25 countries. That is all they remember. Nice they remember animals. But I could have stayed home, taken them to a zoo, a train station and the Pancake Parlour... 🤣 🤷‍♀️
