No comment from me this episode, only listening, learning, and gratitude for the all-mighty Shedinator. This is his best vid yet. He just gets better with age. Like a fine wine...

So happy to see a psychiatrist's channel making an effort to really understand and appreciate psychodynamic-oriented psychotherapy. Much gratitude to you ! Also, my appreciation to Dr Shedler for continuing the good fight :)

One podcast episode obliterates my entire masters program. Thanks so much for doing these.

This is great! Do more role plays with Jonathan. This is how people learn. Not abstract lessons on modalities and theories as interesting as they are.

I am a retired LPC wishing I’d had podcasts when I was working. This was excellent! My Masters was psychodynamically oriented and it’s the basis of all of the work I’ve done. I’ve noticed in the last ten or twenty years that therapists recently graduated have little use for it or understanding of it. How are new therapists being trained today? Sure wish I’d had you as a supervisor.

🤑 when Shed says "you know" and those eyebrows keep moving the bachelor mystery amplifies ..oh yes forgot to mention the smooth and soothing tones 🙃🙃 Love your colab.thx.

Wow, absolutely love the answer to the question at 1:06. If everyone is not serious about spelling out the purpose of treatment the therapist actually does a disservice to that troubled relationship. That therapy is not going to last long anyway, but the narcissistically inclined spouse can always point to those weeks or months of sessions they nobly sat through and say they "tried" therapy and it "failed." You're actually closing the door to self-knowledge. Beautiful!

What a contribution to the field of psychotherapy this podcast makes. In particular, I have listened to the interviews with Nancy McWilliams and Jonathan Shedler *several* times and taken notes! Such leaders in the field, both of whom speak with rigour, clarity, and compassion. Even though I'm an experienced psychotherapist I have profited greatly from these exceptional and deep interviews. Thank you so much.

Hi Dr. Shedler. I am curious to know if there exists a patient whom therapy is not for? Would it only be for people who are not willing to do "the work" or be honest with themselves? Or, are there other kinds of patients who may not need therapy and can seek a different kind of guidance perhaps?

Love your candor and level of calm… any thoughts on how to manage a taxed and overwhelmed psyche that can’t say no to need?? Now I’m Taking in foster dogs too lol

I did my course unit in psychotherapy but i never properly understood the clinical application , the moment of patient and therapist in the room
@marylrobinson7 ай бұрын
After getting your MA, then~ you go study at a psychoanalytic Institute to learn how to be in the room with patients. That’s where you get amazing clinical training. The masters degree isn’t a waste, it’s just the first step.
