During World War II German Wehrmacht thought they defeated then USSR having suffered 4 million casualties, and 600 thousands captured in early stages of Operation Barbarossa' in the Eastern Front. But Russia raised fresh units in millions and counter-attacked immediately. Hitler's Generals were shocked that despite heavy losses, Russians remained undefeated despite Panzer Divisions were at 10-12 miles at the gates of Moscow. As the lines of communications became thinner so resupplies proved most hardiest that caused the entire eastward invasion to collapsed. At the tank Battle of Kursk, the Nazis were defeated and pulled-out what is left of the German Wehrmacht in the Eastern Front, and retreated from where it came from. Back to the borders of Nazi Germany.
