I don't understand how BHVR is handling Skull Merchant. If she's supposed to be a sort of "tracker" instead of applying haste and hindered, I would make it so that scanned survivors reveal their aura for a brief moment and keep the stealth. Pretty sure there isn't a killer with built-in aura reading.

The thing is, the Skull Merchant, as she is right now, will never work as a trap based killer. Who in the blue hell is supposed to be surprised by her drones? These things are super obvious. Even more so, once they emit a massive light circle. So she basically HAS to play like a Trapper, who just shuts down every pallet in chase. And the buff/debuff craze is nothing butt a band aid, to make that viable. Because otherwise, there simply would be nothing. BHVR have designed themselves into a corner with this killer.

@@Angel_Flash These guys most likely run into the drones, not because they don't see them, but because the probably have no clue, that they are speeding the killer up. That is just the intrinsic problem of DBD, though. It is a party game, which many enjoy casually. And it is very easy for us seasoned players to underestimate, the insane learning curve that DBD presents for new players. Understanding the counter-play to 37 killers (and counting) almost requires a Doctor’s degree by now. XD

@@MightyJabronithat’s very inaccurate. every killer besides nurse follows the same basic mechanics when looping. on top of that, behavior’s incredible lack of creativity leads to killers with powers that are very derivative of each other. so even though there are 37 killers, you’re effectively only really learning 10 or so, the rest can just be countered using that same basic techniques you use for countering different kinds of powers. the real problem is that dbd is a relatively popular game and the average player is both bad and unwilling to get better. some because their play time is limited and they have more important things to do, others because they simply refuse to apply themselves

Corrective Action will block all skill check failures that happen when leaving a gen, from across the entire map, for free. That alone is stronger and worth more gen progress than literally every other genrush perk currently in the game. That can be 50%+ gen regression blocked even if the player just stands AFK the entire match.

It's weird how BHVR keeps doing this. They did the same thing with Trickster. Made a bunch of changes, some good some bad, then when it came to live, they removed or changed what the killer players liked and made what the survivors didn't like better so no one is happy.

Skull Merchant drones still only have 1 scan line, and no scouting mode, so consistently proccing the haste is going to be basically impossible with the fast vault change. And if you get scanned 4 times against 1 line drones to get hindered i mean, that's just a skill issue. she's literally just a less precise clown who needs to hit 4 purple bottles before the survivor gets slowed down

Zanshin tactics can allow you up to 3 mindgames with wallhacks as a killer. Any decent killer knows that’s crazy. Lethal, I’m All Ears, Zanshin Tactics will be absolutely disgusting even with just Pain Res or Pop.

Corrective action can now be used to prevent the whole team's random missed skill checks when leaving a gen, and I think that's worth it. Blowing up a gen because the killer showed up never feels good, and now 3/4 people won't have to worry about it (and you could see where the chase is taking place with the aura read)

Regarding Corrective Action, being map wide is actually a nice little buff because even good players occasionally accidentally fail a skill check when they get off a generator and a check just happens to appear right at that moment. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if there's at least one such failure every couple of matches even with players who normally hit all their skill checks. It's just a law of large numbers thing, with multiple people doing gens throughout the span of a match and multiple times people get off the gens part way through repairs someone is bound to get unlucky now and then. So worst case I bet even if all the players can reliably hit skill checks while they're actively working on gens, Corrective Action would still turn at least one or two failures into good successes over the course of a couple of matches.

In my opinion, as a sm main, i think the changes still make her a f tier killer. The changes are basically forcing you to trap a survivor in a loop and constantly rotate the drone for scans, but the survivor has to be moving. She only gets haste 5 sec after deployment or rotate when a survivor is scanned. Against low tier survivors that will be doable but not against high tier survivors. She still will have 1 drone line, so in enclosed maps, she will be difficult to play. Outdoors will be her best maps.

SM is possibly playable again which I like, but now the drop a drone in chase aspect has been made the only viable way to play. *Inhales and exhales* I just wanted a more unique trapping play style. I like the haste aspect but not the hindered part, and I liked how each survivor on the radar gave small buffs to speed. If the speed debuff was removed with tweaks how drones scans worked, that would have been near perfectly fine. This is just an insult to SM players. Some of us try to promote a more proactive play style focusing on chasing and not just anti looping by dropping a drone in chase all the time. We try to be civil despite having a bad past hung over our heads every single time we just try to play a game. Now we're forced to conform to a horrible play style some of us don't even like and are told to deal with it till this update. I just can't with this s***.

I'm kind of opposed to really illogical, high-impact power effects the survivors can't easily track. I almost dislike Legion, because it's hard to explain to new players how and why it works, and why a deep-wounded survivor should body-block for a healthy one. Wesker has one of these where his power recharges faster the more Uroboros infections are out, and it's a bit weird, but not so high-impact. But giving the killer Haste is something the game really can't do lightly, and I guarantee you less than 50% of the game's current players are aware that quietly sitting in scan range has such a massive effect on someone's chase all the way across the map. It makes no sense. I generally get what you're saying about keeping her more active. I'm hoping an increased focus on the scan direction switch does something for that, but I also don't know how they'd incentivize pre-trapping areas well.

All in all SM is pretty much dead, she still has just one beam which can be seen from afar as there is no stealth mode and in order to get the haste effect you need to slow yourself down, its not like you can set up a trap and it will give you haste later without your input so if you want to use it in chase and miss then you will get slowed. Also, as she is slower when changing the direction you may crouch to not get scanned and not give her the haste at all. Hinder also went from barely noticeable if at all to kind of noticeable, and you are also immune to scan while fast vaulting, so you can't even lasertag near vaults anymore. I think it's mostly another nerf with just few buffs thrown in.

The only way they can salvage Cranium Trader is by making her work similarly to Larry. Yeah it totally misses the mark. Distortion is a perk that weaker survivors take to help them contribute to a team. Distortion isn't a perk that survivors skilled at chase should be taking, so it makes no sense. If you're good at chases, you don't want to stay off the killer's radar, you want to attract attention. If they wanted to rework the perk for skilled survivors, it should be something like "when a teammates aura would be read, they read yours instead" or something to that effect. That way it could be a protector perk you can take to keep lower-skilled survivors alive. It makes no sense in the current incarnation.

I believe the only change that should have gone through with Skull Merchant is the 1 beam change. I know Skull Merchant "mains" would be upset with that but it adds counterplay, and makes the Skull Merchant more skillful at the same time. Other than that, everything should have been kept the same. Skull Merchant already isn't all that great, but the lack of counterplay other than praying to RNJesus that there's a long string of connected loops, was horrendous. It was basically a choice of "avoid lock on stack, possibly get hit. Leave loop, maybe get hit unless there's a connected loop. Stay at loop and possibly get 2 tapped."

Scott, i don't believe the majority of the backlash on PTB corrective action was because people thought it would make it to live. I (and nearly everyone else I saw) was just stunned that bhvr changed the perk that turns missed skill checks into greats and didn't even think for a single minute about any other perk that would interact with it. EVERYONE'S first thought reading it was "oh man, that would be fucking stupid with hyperfocus, no way they didn't test/account for that though" only to be proven that they once again didn't test anything. It's more just shock at how unaware of a change it was.

I am a P100 Skull Merchant main who has over 1400 hours on her. I have been telling them on the Forums since her rework what changes she needs, remove the Hinder entirely, it isn't needed but the Haste is, remove Stealth Mode from Drones, it's not fun to have to play Russian Roulette with drones in places like Shack, and if that isn't enough then add a -1 Scan line removal whenever a Survivor hacks a Drone so there's a way to remove stacks so she isn't guaranteed an injure. That's it. Why do they keep doing these weird, convoluted changes that no one literally NO ONE wanted? All this does is force her to play in the most braindead way possible of "Put Drone at loop, spam rotate, get injure, M1" that's her entire playstyle and her only playstyle now.

I am a p100 Skull Merchant as well. I think they should just go back to old Skull Merchant at this point. You can’t kick gens forever and I found her chase more enjoyable back then. How I’d change her right now is make it 3% haste if a survivor gets scanned in chase, 5% hinder as normal, remove the deep wound, remove 1-2 drones so she has 4-5, lower the downtime of drones that are hacked but make it so you can’t recall them if hacked, make her stealth the same as it was, and spread the distance between drones so they can’t stack ridiculously. If it was an entire rework I would remove the haste and hinder completely and lean heavily into her stealth and tracking. Make her an ambush killer. Give her a damn identity.

Also I don't want to see her haste gone. She's an M1 killer with no way to down outside of M1ing. It's the Hinder that's the problem, the Haste is needed and a core part of her kit, moreso than even Claw Traps which is why Expired Batteries is her best addon right now.

Instead of removing the Cypress mori offering entirely, they could have made it so it allows you to kill one downed survivor once only one or two survivors are left in the match. That would be a buff to the current version of the offering, but it wouldn't significantly change who wins the match overall since it's very rare that you have a game where only two survivors are left, you down one of them, but they still both manage to escape. Honestly, they should've just made it in a way where Corrective Action doesn't get tokens on non-manual great skillchecks. So only get tokens when you actually hit the spacebar at the correct moment, not when it is corrected/turned INTO a great skillcheck.

I've been saying for a while that the solution to Skull Merchant is simple. Remove all of the Haste and Hindered. Survivors in a Drone can appear on the radar in the way it works currently. When you're examining it and within a certain range. But survivors who are marked appear on the radar constantly, even when you aren't staring at it. Her entire gimmick is about her radars and her scanning, and with the Distortion changes it's clear that BHVR don't want Ratting anymore. This solves both problems.

I really dig the distortion change, i always used it as a chase perk with qaq and lightweight i think but I always felt bad since distortion players have that stigma.

Interesting change for Distortion, kinda sad that they've changed it but it is better for the chase because often you won't even know why it triggered but at least now you'll know what triggers the distortion so you know what perks/add--ons they have and you can play more around that fact.

I kinda love new Corrective Action. I’ll be using it when playing with my bf as he’s good at killer but hasn’t played survivor much. Also, it will have very niche potential to be clutch if teammates get off gens and fail a skill check, as it will prevent that from happening.

I think there is something people are missing about the new corrective action. Forget about it fixing people flubbing a skill check. As long as people are on gens it could erase the skill check as getting off of generator issue. Which is annoying if you are leaving gen to go unhook someone but way more impactful if you are leaving gen early because of killer approach. If this were to go meta it would be huge for survivors.

skull merchant is such a shame because i conceptually like a lot of her ideas! for example I love the radar as-is, I think it's a really fun and unique form of tracking! I love the idea of using drones against survivors n such but there's just so much that doesn't work super well for dbd. I hope they can make her great and unique someday because i think there's a lot of potential

Skull merchant player here: the changes, ironically made her even more brain dead to play as. 😂 Cause she's actually punished for swap tagging and timing her spins correctly at vaults now. It's like they've taken all the wrong lessons. 😭. Saying that she got trickstered is a very fair comparison.

Saying nothing is wrong with the mori change being reverted feels incorrect. The point was that the mori basically removed the killer needing to pick the survivor up to take them to a hook which negates the possibility of a save.

I’m not saying that the proposed change they made was the best route, but doing nothing seems like a massive waste of time. But I personally believe that moris can absolutely change a games outcome. all they had to do if they wanted to reintroduce the haste this way was just... leave the hindered alone or remove it entirely. why would they increase it back to 8%, that shit is literally unplayable by itself but especially when the killer has haste on top of it.

I have no way of proving it,but a few years ago I wrote to BHVR about a killer idea similar to Skull Merchant. She was called the Vigilante and could place these devices on the ground that would cast a radius and track any survivor that stepped inside. She could also make them sound like generators for a short time to throw some confusion into the mix. Survivors could destroy these devices, but by doing so they would bathe that section of the map in smoke for 30 seconds so you couldn't see very well, and she could stealth while in the smoke. Maybe in practice this would have been an annoying power, but I like killers like Plague where survivors can either fight her one way (stay infected but stay broken), or another (cleanse constantly but risk her main power). I just think the drones can do so much more than what is now just a basic tracking ability and a few annoying haste-related effects.

They should just say screw it and try to rework merchant to like a Blops 2 rcxd thing. How cool would it be to kamikaze drones into people? Also sounds fun to go against to hear literally artillery flying in. I just feel like one of the coolest things about drones is how well some people fly them, so why not bring it in game?

1 scan line + haste only works within a 5 second window so if you manage to duck the first scan switchback you're probably fine? she will be less miserable than live merchant from what i can tell
