Behind Bars Season 3 - Episode 4: Zenica Prison, Bosnia and Herzegovina | 4K Prison Documentary
Beyond Borders: USA - Inside American Immigration: • World's Toughest Borde...
Zenica prison - is the biggest and toughest prison in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The eighteen eighty-six fortress still stands to this day. The prison has survived all kinds of internal and external threats: rebellions, escape attempts, both world wars and the Bosnian war in the 1990s. Zenica has room for almost a thousand inmates.
From minor offenses such as robbery to war criminals, there are currently five hundred and fifty prisoners behind bars. They are to be resocialized into three groups and reintegrated into society. Group C is the most dangerous man in Bosnia and is under constant control in solitary confinement. Group A, on the other hand, enjoys privileges such as a job and even weekend leave. Those who follow the rules in Zenica are allowed to have visitors three times a month. Anyone who resists and protests only gets 60 minutes of visiting time per month. One of the detainees is Vikovic Dzevad, who stole 1,800 Euros from a pensioner and has been imprisoned in Zenica for the second time.
The prison police are on duty every day to secure Bosnia's largest prison within the five and a half meter high walls. Extraordinary: None of them carry a firearm. Therefore, discipline and physical fitness is an absolute must that the prison administration regularly reviews. One of the prison cops is Boris Soko, who provides security in track four, and has already survived an attempt on his life.
This episode of Behind Bars tells not only his story, but also that of the inmates, and the environment of the prison and shows in impressive pictures how life behind bars works.

This is an unexpectedly good and fair documentary. As a Bosnian, I can confirm that KPZ Zenica has a wide reputation for one of the worst places in Bosnia, something all criminals are afraid of getting into. I passed by it once and I was amazed at the sheer size of it. I don't think I would classify it as one of the toughest in the world - it's definitely one of the tougher ones in Europe and is definitely the toughest one in Bosnia.

Being from Zenica, this video is beyond hilarious to me. It paints the town and country as some bleak, desaturated, mortally dangerous place to live in. Meanwhile, our violent crime rates are lower than most of Western Europe lol The hillock behind the prison isn't "filled with hungry bears and wolves". It's a tiny hill. There's a village like, right across it

But this is titled "World's Toughest Prisons." It really implies a lot more than this; the title is clickbait regardless (and the repetition of the line "one of the toughest prisons in the world" is just straight up dishonest, despite this being otherwise really interesting). Not that I think it should be worse than it is; this actually looks... really reasonable, as an American who's aware of how awful ours are.

I am a Bosnian, I know one of my friends who ended up in Zenica for a year. This prison is tough, but it isn't one of toughest prisons in the world. Most guards here care about inmates not to get hurt by others. US Prisons are much worse, no one cares there if an inmate gets beaten or abused, or sexually assaulted, i think I'd rather spend in Zenica for 10 years then in any US prison for 2 years. I enjoyed your Documentary. Thank you for visiting my country, and for doing a documentary about this prison. Hope to see you return to our beautiful country once again. All the best, god bless

This place was notorious, but that time has passed. Zenica was a prison during Austria-Hungary, during Kingdom of Yugoslavia, during WWII when Germans used it and after WWII in Yugoslavia and it's still a prison today. The conditions in the prison used to be horrible as prisoners were tortured and even killed within prison walls. My great-grandfather was once imprisoned there and he even died inside...apparently - you never know what's true what's not when it comes to those times..

I was born in the city of Zenica, left due to war in 1994. I left as a very young child, born in 1983. Came across this while trying to locate on google maps the areas I used to live in from what little memory I still have of it. Very interesting documentary. Eventually I immigrated to Canada in Dec 1998. Been here ever since. Praying over my city of birth; wishing all God’s peace, love and very best in Jesus name. 🕊️🛐✝️🫶🏻✌️

@Sigrid Kaag - it just proves how low crime is or crime levels! In that part of Balkan people were busy trying to survive the war, so the criminals didn't have an opportunity to ''evolve''. The main issues the people had was to survive - in case you didn't know. But we have no Bloods, Crips, Black Disciples, Hells Angels and so on. We have war every 50 years and we settle the difference than, lol Oh and if you think the War criminals who had killed, raped, tortured hundreds and thousands of kids and people is a petty crime - I am glad that I don't know you as what would be the ''real'' crime for you...
