Ghost Town - one of the toughest and most dangerous neighborhoods in the world. The deadly no-go area is ruled by the “Ugly Americans”, one of the toughest street gangs in Cape Town. Whoever enters their territory must fear his life. No police or ambulances will help one there. Drug trading, addiction, violence, shootouts and prostitution.
All that is led by a boss who rules with an iron fist, Dimes. He controls his no-go zone and survived seventeen murder attempts. In his headquarter, the “White House”, he runs his drug business and orders punishments from beating or torture to execution.
Killing machine Anis and knife master Bousie are two of the most loyal henchmen and toughest members of the “Ugly Americans” street gang. Both are cold hard killers and lead the group. They use drugs and the power of weapons to defend their patch - right down to the death.
In and around Ghost Town everybody is struggling for the next drug kick. The prostitute Nikita is a addict. She takes crystal meth on a daily basis. To get the money and take care of her son she works on the streets. Her last resort? Sex in exchange for money.
In an attempt to bring the situation under control a new special unit was recently introduced: the “Anti Gang Unit”. Ninety-five team members are now investigating the toughest gangs. Working with undercover cops and informers. At the top of their most-wanted list is a member of the “Americans” gang, wanted for a brutal murder.

For the South African version of the favela, look up 'informal settlements'. There you'll see shacks on mountainsides with no running water, electricity or gas, no roads, and lots of places that are essentially impossible to police. These settlements have mushroomed in recent years. I visit Cape Town almost every year and they grow larger and larger by the year.

I feel for the people living in these conditions, but I will never understand why they insist on having children. Like, no job, no money, living in a shack, being surrounded by gangs, violence, crime and drugs, or even being an addict themselves, why do they think it’s a good idea to bring a child into that situation? I get that they might not have access to birth control pills (or the shot, or implant, etc) but you’d think they at least would get some condoms and make sure they won’t have even more mouths to feed.

As in Latin America, and as in every colony, it is not drugs that lead to this situation. It is the model of resource extraction (natural and human capital), without any return or reparation, that leaves thousands and thousands of people without education, without opportunities, without access to anything, and who end up taking refuge in drugs, both psychologically and as an opportunity to generate some income.

My cousin was in this gang and got killed. My dads family are from the cape flats. This isn’t the worst gang though they are very dangerous. The worst is the Numbers gang. They rule the prisons as well
