It was a lot of fun to work with Anders, Gary, Chuck et al on Delphi. Anders is the best programmer I've ever worked with.

For such a small country as Denmark I feel quite proud how much we've influenced programming through the years - PHP, C#, C++, Turbo Pascal and more.

Great interview. Anders is such inspirational figure - bright mind, ability to explain almost everything, funny. I wish there were more interviews with him....

"When it comes to visual programming, a line of code is worth a thousand pictures" -- dang, what a quote! 21:10 Having one right way rather than four ways that seem equally good to do something....very interesting. I even love the circular linked list. I don't remember doing that, it's great...

What a man!! Watching this today when he has also worked on making TypeScript an amazing language with such an intutive type system, it mind boggling really!!

- "Visual programming: ..a line of code is worth a thousand pictures.."! - "Experience with Java: ..you have to know what to do with a product, and what is the value proposition to the customers, and to yourself, to your company, to your organization" - "Simplicity: It seems like all of the really good ideas are simple ideas.. the simple ones are the ones that win in the end.. " - "Customer empathy: It is super important that you keep your hands dirty at all time.. because when you get your hands dirty, you can sort of feel what works and what doesn't... customers don't have infinite resources and there is something about communicating directly.." - "Learning: We all stand on the shoulders of giants.." - "Advice: do what you like and the success would follow.. that's how great things happen.." - Leaving Borland: [The alignment with company identity, vision, and mission is critical..] - "Team work: One-man show sets quality standards high but it doesn't scale at all.. you got to learn eventually to be a team player.."

Delphi was (may still is) a great visual programming tool/language. In the 90's together with a friend we decide for a project to give a try to Delphi (we knew Borland C++ and Visual Basic at that time). We bought Delphi (I think 2.0) and in the next week we not only have learnt the language (we both had already have Pascal background) but the application was almost done! I estimate that the same application would take least three weeks in Visual Basic even having more experience with it. It clearly demonstrate the superiority of Dephi language, no doubt. Later the way and the licenses of Borland database system makes me to discontinue programming with Delphi :(

Anders & Bjarne Stroustrup... What is it with the Danes and compilers?

Mr Anders, why is your new and shiny language so much slower than the language from it derived? Usually, when you create something new, that new thing is supposed to be faster than the "old" thing.

Simplicity : 36:56 "... I you can't explain to me in five minutes what this thing is supposed to do then it's probably not a good idea!" Keep your hands dirty 39:07 ".. once you stop writing code it's amazing how quickly you float up and become sort of one there architect astronauts ... customer don't have infinite resources ..."

"delphi was" -- eh, Delphi is still going strong and beats C# in a huge range of computing scenarios. I am sorry, but he got it right the first time with object pascal
