ALMOST bought that first RG but found a BRAND NEW Les Paul Standard Plus with thin 60's neck for $1880 tax included. Was only $180 more than a RG and it's a Gibson USA with Mother of pearl inlays, Burstbucker 3's and a beautiful hardshell white lined USA case. Never thought I would own a Gibson, was always a Jackson, Ibanez person but the thin 60's neck is what sold me!!

I used to be a Gibson fanboy and have an SG and a Les Paul. Then, I tried an Ibanez. I now have 3 Ibanez (an RX, an RG and an SA) and that SG that I had even before. I traded the Les Paul for the RG. And I'm seriously thinking about gifting my SG to my girlfriend (who also plays the guitar) since I basically never play it anymore. I'm only conflicted because I have tons of memories with it since it was my teen age guitar, but if emotional attachment wasn't a thing, I wouldn't care at all about giving it to her

@metallica5252 Oh my mistake, these are the ones with tremsetters built in right? Well that sucks. Is the routing the same as the older edge models? If so you could probably get one fitted. I am glad I bought my RG550 over a 3550 in that case then.
@Blackbird5150
@Blackbird5150 12 жыл бұрын
@sacredgeometry that's a ZR it's completely different from the edge zero the edge zero is knife edged as opposed to ball bearing it's a different feel and sound..when i take the ZPS system out i lose not only sustain, but tuning stability..I like to think of the ZPS system as a sort of tremolo blocking unit more-so than a tremolo-correcting unit. If you catch my drift

I would want 2 get an ibanez straight from the store/shelves, (without changing pickups etc.) is ther an ibanez guitar wit all the things i mentioned below? or an ibanez guitar straight wit the pickups u wer trying 2 talk about? coz they say its pretty expensive changing pickups, and btw wat type of pickups were u saying?
@sacredgeometry
@sacredgeometry 12 жыл бұрын
@metallica5252 p.s. arent those systems still using the edge rather than ball bearings? I thought the dampening only really occured due to the ball bearing system in the s series.
@sacredgeometry
@sacredgeometry 12 жыл бұрын
@metallica5252 Have you tried getting your guitar set up? I notice you are also using a RG370, hows the bridge stability on that out of interest? I wanted to recommend the 350 to a friend but didnt know if the lower range edges were trustworthy. I subbed to your chan btw :) nice playing.
@Blackbird5150
@Blackbird5150 12 жыл бұрын
@sacredgeometry it's most likely due to the face that my trem is for 7 strings. the extra saddle does something to the unit as a whole..there's more tension and it's very unstable with my ZPS not left inside..I think it's a common problem with all other trems except for maybe a good Kahler system.

well, i am using my ibanez s5470 with proud for almost 10 years. i would like to write something here in case someone watch this video to purchase one. first of all it is comfortable a.f! you can play the guitar for 3 hours and still perform 100 push-ups. it is light-weight. the neck is a masterpiece. it was my second guitar after a squier strat and it took me a month to get used to play with that comfort. bridge is another story. lock system doesn't allow tremolo to move even if you take strings off. basically it becomes flat when you want to change strings and you don't even need to make any adjustment after changing them. when you want to drop your tune, that other "screw" on the top( behind the guitar) allows you to move entire bridge up and down. if you want you can even rise the edge at the level of a les paul if it is your prefered hand positioning. tremolo bar is very sensitive. i tried couple of steve vai action and realized that i am pulling the bar too much even for his standarts.(imagine how sensitive it is!) but being a comfortable guitar comes with a huge trade-off which is THE SUSTAIN. s series contains minimum amount of wood which makes the guitar is sustain-retarded unfortunately. i have been smoking for 15 years and even my lungs have more sustain than an ibanez s. so it is not a "plug and play" device. you definetely need a sustain pedal for solos. i am using an engle e530 preamp with mesa boogie %50 power amp, even with that much gain it is still required. another bad part is (in my opinion) its built in pick ups. you definetely need something stronger for high gain disstoriton. neck and bridge pick ups might sound well with a good system but the mid pick up, unfortunately, is a disaster. it literally reduces the gain of the sound and really messes up the mid-bridge, mid-neck combinations which must provide that "twak" sound. so overally it is a very good "modifieble" guitar. if you are looking for the comfort with your own guitar sound and starting to become a semi-pro player it is definetely the guitar you are looking for...

yea true i've done that several times but there was no tuning stability in my RGD 7 so I'm forced to leave it in. i'm thinking it's just a 7-string problem more than anything else. i doubt the 6 stringers have the same issue.

to each his own, nothing prevents you from removing the ZPS system and have a fully floating tremolo. The ZPS can come in handy if you like a tremolo system but actually care about stable tuning as well. It also comes in handy if you use it as floating tremolo but have to change strings.

Its not the fluttering caused by pulling off on the the bar fast its the note warble that happens when you have a hard attack on the strings that this removes. You can flutter on these just fine. You can even remove the zero feature on modern zeros to make it exactly the same as any other floating trem.

well it depends... when i bought them they came with v7, v8 and d s1 pickups.. and i personally think that they suck... and it's not that expensive changing them.. it depends on what u buy... i have seyomour duncans, 59 on the neck(it's like a PAF) and duncan custom ( SH 5 i think) on bridge they were like 70 dollars each, but some ibanez come with seymour duncans and others with dimarzio, but if an rg comes with v7 v8 and s1. i'd recommend to change them. but really just go and try them all

well try getting something with 2 humbuckers that can split coils and a single coil in the middle.. almost every ibanez comes like that... and i'd say that RG's are kinda the most metal ibanez guitars.. specially prestiges with rosewood.. and they sound really good in clean tones.. specially when you change he pickups. and again.. prestige rg's come with lo pro edge and stuff.. really cool tremolo.. ahaha i love ibanez

@sacredgeometry thanks man i appreciate it. The Edge III requires extra attention compared to a standard Floyd due to the sole fact that it's NOT supposed to sit parallel to the body..Luckily newer RG models have the edge zero-II which is an outstanding trem unit so you don't have to worry about the Edge III..i say avoid it at all costs.

yea ik, i was just referring to the guys comment, it seemed like he was saying that no one would want to get flutter effects, which is false. Even on my 7 i get insane flutters with the zero point bar off, but i prefer having it in for more sustain and better sounding bends.

Definitely Ibanez SV5470! If you can afford about 1300 EUR then it is ultimate instrument for lifetime. SynchroniZR bridge means no problems with cutting string balls off and falling out clamps, locking tuners, H-S-H pickups allow for further upgrades, although even with stock pups it sounds good.

Damn, if I'd known how the floating trem system worked when I purchased my last guitar, I definitely would've chosen a guitar with these sort of trem systems. I almost can't use the tremolo because the guitar goes out of tune so easily. I also can't tune it in any other way than the standard (EADGBE) without doing major adjustments in the back (or is there another way that I don't know about?) Should get a new spring to put in the back, though, so that I can use thicker strings than the nines.

Answering this 4 years later but... Go for an original Edge or the Lo-pro Edge, avoid the shitty edge-zero (and all the edge 2,3, pro, etc) at all costs. It stays in tune, but it feels like shit in the hands, light years away from the good wobble of an Original Floyd Rose or an actual Edge.

@satjathamma basswood is not a bad wood. it's just different. if you don't like different, stick to your Schecters and ESP. basswood picks up highs and midrange. good shredding wood. not every metal guitar has to be mahogany. and did you not hear the part about how the necks on those guitars are hand-sanded, and the frets are hand-rolled? that shit takes work. and the hardware on these guitars is nothing short of top-of-the-line.
