Inspired by Thomas Sankara, Burkina Faso's president who was murdered in 1987, protests in 2014 brought an end to military rule in the country. 'If you want to kill Sankara today, a hundred Sankara will come again', says one protestor. 'The same sickness could happen again', warns a protest leader. 'The same people from the old regime are still here'.

The colonizers must be kicked out of the African continent at any cost, for Africa and Africans to be able to move forward in building a better tmr for themselves and their love ones. Long live to the revolution and to the visions of the Great Sankara.

The revolution somewhat reminds Ukrainian Euromaidan: (a) people, especially the young, were tired of the regime's atrocities; (b) our dictator was backed by Russia, while Blaise Compaoré was backed by France; (c) we also had a huge Russian military base in Crimea; (d) Burkina Faso was one of the poorest countries in the World, Ukraine - one of the poorest in Europe; (e) journalists and musicians were leaders of the revolution; (f) we also have revolutionary martyrs; (g) Yanukovych fled to Russia, Compaoré - to France; (h) though there are some positive changes after the revolution, old politicians are still in power...

But I didn't quite like the leftist ending of the film. Sankara was right, that Africans need to buy African goods. But not repaying debts is not entirely good idea. Moreover, the "IMF imposed reforms", that we also do in Ukraine, work well for our economy.

While now Nato backed seperatist mercenaries make the Ukraïne a safe place for west European tourists to fly over, en route to their sunny holiday destinations , while eight miles below they are killing each other, just to give Russia a hard time... While the Ukraïne is just as indivisible a part of the Russian federation as Alaska is of the U.S. two (one?) party state.

Africa will never forgive Compaore for this dastardly act even if Captain Sankara family forgive him!! I remember he had just paid a visit to my country Uganda and then his assassination followed shortly after.... We were devastated as young people who had just experienced a revolution that had seen off three dictators in a period of just 6-7 years including that of Iddi Amin!! Such a sad day for our continent..

When Europeans in particularly the French learn to stop meddling in other people's affairs you won't have anything to worry about. Learn how to respect and work with people instead so both parties benefit instead of just manipulating and exploiting people

zombiewarking Foreign powers have been meddling in the affairs of places like Korea and Vietnam forever. Korea was actually poorer than Africa after WW2, same with south east Asian nations. People predicted Africa would thrive. Korea was a nation of superstitious dirt-farmers who were promptly flattened by a war between the US and China. Where were the whines from South Korea? Vietnam got pounded and pounded by the US for years, anything above ground was a target. They moved underground and kept fighting. Four years after the US lost the war against them, China invaded. China lost too. Where are Vietnam's whines about outsiders interfering? Malaysia was a giant rubber farm and Singapore was a British naval coal-refill station. Take a look at Malaysia now. These are very different cultures. They follow different religions. They all experienced colonialism and devastating wars in the 18th through 20th centuries. They, like Japan before them, chose to learn from their enemies. On the other hand, you have places like Burma, Cambodia, North Korea, where all outside influence was rejected and the result was massive death, destruction, and poverty. Everything that happened in Africa happened in Asia. Or worse. Now Asia presents a tremendous diversity of economic and political outcomes. Tremendous success and tremendous horror. Where's the success in Africa? It isn't because Europeans and North Americans have some special interest in keeping Africa down. They had the same interest in keeping down Asia and Latin America as Africa. No special treatment for Africa. But that's a really great excuse for kleptocrats and presidents-for-life to destroy their nations and hand out billions to family and friends instead of investing in infrastructure and the economy. Seoul and Singapore and Hong Kong are places where Europeans and Americans go to see what their future could be like. Africa is what people are afraid the future will look like.

places like korea and japan for example largely owe their stability to the united states of america and their good locations geographically. singapore benefits from being a transhipment point for water traffic, japan was given huge economic help to rebuild after ww2. korea is between japan and china and also benefited from their natural location and america wanting them stable to help stop the spread of communism. if you look at the actions taken in africa by outsiders and compare them to what was done in asia their is a stark contrast.
@zombiewarking

the situation is africa is almost totally a result of the cold war point blank period. asia came out better from this era than africa did it's really that simple. EUROPEANS FUCKED WITH these peoples societies and now want to act like they had no hand it and africa is fucked up because it's totally the africans fault. It's a way to escape white guilt AND IT'S sickening. when lumumba was assassinated it set of a chain of events that central africa is still suffering from. and the same goes for many other areas in africa. who supported these presidents for life and kept them in power??? who helped blaise compaore assassinate thomas sankara??? the french. who supported his 27 year dictatorship??? the french. the people of burkina faso only now have been able to overthrow him in a popular uprising. stop the bullshit, The growth of asia happened because the powers that be decided that they wanted to turn it into their factory. meanwhile they decided to suck africa of her resources
@perfectallycromulent

You're just parroting back the excuses. You know where the other of the world's most heavily used shipping routes are? Egypt. It's been there for as long as civilization has existed. Also, the entire east coast of Africa has been a popular place of trade for thousands of years. Why isn't Zanzibar another Singapore? Ask a Korean if they think they "benefited" from being a toy for China and Japan to fight over. It's like saying Poland benefited from being between the great powers of Germany and Russia. And again, Korea was one of the poorest places on earth in 1945 and was then devastated by complete war. Nothing remotely close to this kind of devastation happened in Africa. Nothing close to what happened to Vietnam happened to any African nation. And Asian nations were treated as plantations for resources just as much as African nations were. Malaysia was a giant rubber factory. Philippines was a giant sugar cane factory. Indonesia was good for spices and hardwood and oil. If you want to see some really extreme resource extraction and environmental devastation, look at what the Russians did to the Central Asian nations that were part of the USSR. The nations people dismiss as the "stans" as if they were interchangeable. The fact is that Asia and Africa are both huge places with a vast number of cultures and long histories. They do have certain similarities with each other with regard to Europe. The result in Asia ranges from some of the most advanced societies in the world (South Korea, Singapore) to brutal dictatorships (North Korea, Cambodia). Africa has had plenty of brutal dictatorships - though I think that Khmer Rouge Cambodia and North Korea are probably worse than anything in Africa. Now you can either study the contrasts offered by Asia - why are Malay, Thailand, and Singapore, and even Vietnam doing so much better than nearby Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, and Burma? What can the contrasts between Communist China and Hong Kong and Taiwan China tell us? - or you can blow them off as if 4 billion people were just the same, blessed by Europe/US. And then you can do the same for the diverse hundreds of millions of Africans - they're all screwed because Europe/US did it to them. And maybe take some interest in the divergent histories of the Spanish and Portuguese speaking nations of the Americas. Argentina was as wealthy as the US in the late 19th century. It was attracting as many European immigrants. What happened? I can tell you it happened too fast for the US to have done it. The US wasn't much interested in South America until WW2. You will find plenty of liberators who were assassinated, national industries crushed by foreign companies or the governments they owned. But stop treating the nations outside of Africa as if they are all the same, especially if you expect anyone to treat African nations as nations rather than a continent. And start taking the economic policies of those nations seriously if you want anyone to see Africa as anything but a failed continent. If you want to cling to your myth that Africa was treated especially bad and therefore it's screwed until the white man pays retributions, you're going to be poor, hungry, and waiting a long, long, time.
