This movie came out when I was a teacher in McAllen Texas. It's by far the BEST movie about teachers ever. All of the other Hollywood movies get it all wrong. The biographies of other teachers tend to be about teachers who teach a couple of years and either quit or open up their own private school. They make money by writing a book or developing a bull crap curriculum. Jaime Escalante was the real deal and was consistently great. The other thing about Stand and Deliver is the politics, infighting and professional jealousy that exists in the profession. The U.S. public school system has a culture of favoritism in that personal relationships are more important than work ethic and quality of output.

Thank you and your movie! I have now been an English teacher, as a foreign language (EFL), for 26 years. Your portrayal of Mr Escalantes and his story was a key inspiration for me to become a teacher. Thank you!

One of those films I watch at least once a year. Edward James Olmos is always thrilling to watch, and his subtle but effective embrace of the process and the character make this film a must watch for me repeatedly.

I loved this movie, it has had an enormous “positive impact” on hispano communities all across the US. I was in HS in Laredo, Texas, in the 90’s and saw it for first time. I loved it. The reality is that every high school needs a Jaime Escalante.

Absolute gentleman! As well as Lou Diamond Phillips, who I just saw telling the story about how he got that role.

This was a great movie, one of the best ever. Should be in the IMDB top 20. I am just sad that Robert Gonzalez was taken out because I was going to join SHIELD when he was director for the short time he was.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Olmos in Washington DCA right before boarding a flight back to LA in 2018. I had the unfortunate luck to be the first to share bad news about an LA politician who I knew to be corrupt from listening to many community stories, who happened to then be a good friend of his. The politician would go on to be sentenced to 13 years in prison in 2024. Such is my karma to be the bearer of truth. He's a good man, and not simply a wonderful actor.

Escalante had the courage to hold high expectations, and the knowledge to back that expectation. Sadly, most teachers today are more concerned with projecting sympathy than in imparting knowledge. Dude was a national treasure.

True but a Jaime Escalante today would no longer be able to teach.... He would be run off by year one or be forced to change... As a teacher myself the minute you try to hold the kids accountable... You are not backed up by administration

@@ivangamez9773 that is very sad & speaks volumes of our education system. It’s the soft bigotry of low expectations.

infact it is not negative times a negative; the correct interpretation is between two numbers there can be one and only one operator, i.e plus, minus, multiply or devide . all other symbols are the representation of the quality of a number. if two different operators are placed next to each other between two numbers it tells that one is a operator and the other is the quality sign and we need to resolve and identify what is operator and what is sign.

Due to budget cuts, he was let go & lost his teaching certification. Only to re-emerge years later under the name Professor James Gellar. Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Tallahassee who had a fascination for End Times mythology. Gellar wrote several books on the subject before he was fired for allegedly stealing an ancient Roman sword. He then disappeared, his name coming to attention when the Doomsday Killings began.
