Thank you for sharing your process for setup. Very few videos on this. A group of close friends and I are looking to get involved in the sport and not sure on whether or not we should invest in a “full kitchen” setup (smoker, Santa Maria grill, burners, sink w/hot water, warmer, etc.) or keep it simple with just starting out with a smoker and tent setup. Your video showed that we could “keep it simple”. Thank you and blessings to you, your wife, and dog!

Great to hear Michael. The smaller your footprint at an event the better off you're going to be. After a few events you'll know if you're ready to go all in. Be sure to check out our competition Playlist for more competition related content. Thanks for watching.

@KIRBBQ I knew Johnny Young (RIP) we are from the same hometown of Winston-Salem, NC. Plus he was my Fraternity Brother (Omega Psi Phi). I went to school with his daughters and son (who is keeping his BBQ legacy going). Although I live in Tampa, FL now, I would contact him with any questions or tips he could provide me. He was my mentor helping me get my BBQ feet off the ground. Really miss him… Small world…

So it looked like you cooked "only" two slabs. It seems like folks turn in say 4 ribs, but cook 4 slabs just to get the perfect ones. It says a lot about your execution and process. Focus on nailing down your technique and you don't need to cook that many slabs. Trust the process!
