One of my earliest memories was going to Billy Smart's Circus. Also since I was a little girl my favourite thing is proper old fashioned Galloping Horses. Always my favourite fairground attraction and Carters have the very best one.

This was one of the most amazing fairs i use to always go to it when it was in my area and also use to take my daughter to it . The atmosphere was amazing with all the rides and the smells , i hope they do find a permanent home as would be a crime to loose a piece of history . Thank you Dom for giving them a bit of advertisement..

Super video Dom, that really brings back some memories for me. My wife's maiden was Edwards, her family used to travel round the South East of England with their fun fair. I remember when I first visited her family at their depot they weren't at all sure of me as I was a "flatty", not part of the travelling showman world. Anyway, I was obviously accepted..... that was over fifty years ago. I remember visiting their family wagon. It was a superb two tone grey Colchester. A real work of art, simply beautiful inside. But my word that was a hard life. They too gave it all up when they could see that costs were rising and people wanted more and more sophisticated entertainment. A shame, but that's the way of the world. Good luck to Joby I am convinced he will find a successful next step.

Hi Dom.... Another brilliant video so thank you for posting, at 10.24 there is a painting of a green coloured racing car, that is the "Vanwall special" which Sir Sterling Moss and other famous drivers use to race, the Vandervell factory where they manufactured the thin wall bearings was close to where you filmed this video in Maidenhead, unfortunately the production site was demolished and is now an industrial area, so there is a lot of engineering history in that area that may interest you being an engineer. Vandervell bearings are still being manufactured in Scotland but are now part of the Mahle group. Vandervell also had a factory in Tremorfa, Wales where they produced pressed steel rocker arms for camshafts, and thrust washers for crankshafts, but i believe that factory was also closed in the reorganisation. All the best to you and your family Dom, have a great Christmas. Best regards, Stefano

Visited the fair a number of times at West Wycombe, what impressed me was how fresh the paintwork was convinced Joby spent all winter painting his kit. Sad he won't be at Pedestal field again. A genuine showman.

Fantastic video Dom. Joby and Carter's steam fair are legendary. Sign writing par excellence!! Didn't know they're going to stop touring now. Hope a permanent site for the collection gets found. My Grandfather worked for Scammel in Rickmansworth and would take a truck home for "testing" 😁 Great memories!!

Love it, well done everyone. Ooh I bought the book for my brother, but finding a fudge wheel to add to his Christmas is proving a pain. ( I always buy him a strange tool. A tape measure that displays diameters, Digital spirit level that has a readout for the angles, a Japanese wood turners finishing saw and the quite hilarious brush for cleaning a hose. It's a flexible spiral with a brush on the inside of the spiral.)

Hi Dom, nice vid, i am a signwriter and coach painter by trade, been to letterheads meets both at Carters yard and on the fair a couple of times, i think i spotted a sign that i wrote for an auction on the wall display in Joby's shop, i wondered who had bought it !! now i know, i am retired from full time work but keep my hand in repainting Romany Waggons and Drays with the odd sign thrown into the mix.

I’m looking forward to Carters steam fair auction this weekend, though tinged with sadness that Joby is having to have a clear out.. It comes to us all eventually and I know all too well as I’ve got 4 barns full of kit collected over the past 60 years, to sort when my old man pops off this mortal coil. 😢 If I win the lottery, I’ll be sending Joby enough money to preserve everything for the foreseeable…
