I live in Germany and have ordered quite a few items from these guys over the last year or two and they've always been on the ball...Even since Brexit. Yes delivery times have gone to crap but the service is brilliant. Would love to see a secondhand section on the their web page. although I understand that that is a lot more work. Interesting. The chap undertaking the weathering made an intetesting comment though about problems with acrylic paints with airbrushes. I've been using acrylics with Iwata airbrushes for yonks and don't have a problem. Airbrushes clogging with acrylic (and enamel) is generally caused by the user not knowing how to use an airbrush properly and/or the user having a 'single-action' airbrush'. A single-action airbrush is a waste of time as it cannot clear the paint passages. This also applies to using airbrushes with enamel paints. The cause of the problem is something that is called 'tip-drying', that is, paint dries on the fluid nozzle tip when there is no flow e.g., when the airbrush is placed in its holder while working. This is easily obviated with a dual-action airbrush. The secret is knowing how to use an airbrush and the secret is to keep a constant air flow through the airbrush before pulling back the trigger (only possible with a dual-action airbrush) to start the paint flow. Start the airflow by pressing down the trigger and then slowly and gently pull back on the trigger to start the paint flow and paint your subject. Carry on past the subject slightly with the the paint flow still applied for a moment then, keeping the trigger pressed down to maintain the airflow, move the trigger forward to stop the paint flow whilst keeping the trigger pressed down so NOT stopping the airflow for a few seconds. The continous air flow without the paint flowing will clear the paint from the airbrush and clear the nozzle and so prevent 'tip-drying' as there is no paint in the system to dry whilst working on your subject when you stop the painting momentarily to turn your subject round to paint all the sides. Hope this helps.

Richard was referring to times he’s when he’s cleaning an airbrush that he’d previously forgotten to clean out. When the acrylic paint is all dry/solid inside from a few days ago etc. He wasn’t referring to the tip. Richard only ever uses dual action airbrushes. No TMC model has ever been weathered with a single action airbrush.

Excellent insight into the background of the TMC's business which is first class. As a beginner to airbrushing I have not attempted to try and weather a loco. I was going to try using acrylic paints but picked up on Richard's comments relating to his preference to enamel paints. May I ask Richard when enamel paints are applied to the wheels/motion work does it result in any problems to the loco running?

I’m seeking certain locomotives for my Ongar Station layout. The ones I’m looking for are the Oxford Rail N7 in GER Wartime Grey and the same in LNER Black. Both should be DCC Sound and able to run on any 00 digital layout as they will not only be used on the Ongar Station layout, but also at the Hoddesdon Model and Railway Club.
