RIP Roger, great person, great honest humble man who had a god given talent and gave thousands and thousands of people many years of entertainment, I was lucky enough to have seen the Beat many times and will always be grateful for witnessing Rogers talents first hand, He once pulled me up onto the stage in Manchester to do a bit of skanking with him

You know, I'm in America. I always have been here. Roger didn't like playing America--and many many others agreed. Also, we don't get good European culture here anymore, but I saw Roger on KZbin and heard him on Spotify, which has really freaked me out the last few days. He was an immense talent and a beautiful man. He meant more than Prince, Tom Petty and George Michael to me!! Thanks, Rob

One of the best bands to come out of the 80’s and Roger was a pure gentleman and humble person. Saw them 3 times in the early 80’s and they were always electric. Was lucky enough to meet him and his son personally back in 2007 and took some great backstage photos of them both. Roger the music world will miss you... ❤️ RIP

Watched this before Roger passed and hoped he had the strength to win the fight. Watching it back now is so so sad. You can hear his voice breaking at times and it must have been awful for him (and everyone who goes through that same fight). You're at peace now Roger. If there is an afterlife, I hope you're up there basking in it. You earned it and you deserve it. Peace Love & Unity

Having met Roger a few times, he truly is a gentleman in every aspect of the word, generous, respectful of everyone and he should have run for mayor of Birmingham for the way he portrayed it and helped put it on the map. His last work was fantastically relevant, and so good - miss him.

Three years later and 4000 miles away, I still mourn for him. I saw Dave Wakeling a few years ago, but Roger had much better new songs and a far better band. I just recently heard his latest, but it isn't easy to get here in the States. I am absolutely astonished at how great his last few albums were. I want to learn the saxamaphone to play it like Saxa!!!
@PoliceBoy465
@PoliceBoy465 5 жыл бұрын
Roger regrets leaving the Beat back in the 80's. Wakeling got greedy and convinced Roger to leave and form General Public, who had some immediate success, but things were NEVER the same again. Wakeling must have been shocked when Andy and David Steele had more success than any of them when they formed the Cannibals. Now Dave and Roger run their own separate Beat's, both touring making an album each. Roger's album sounds way more like The Beat, but nothing compares to the original 3 albums.

roger was last member of the beat david formed the band ,, so it was up to david if he wanted to disband nothing to do with greed

Sorry man, but it's well documented that Dave and Roger left the others hanging. Dave has gone on record to say the profits would be split by 2 instead of the 6 in the Beat. So yeah, I'd call that greed.

@@PoliceBoy465 Roger was an adult when The Beat split, so I don't think you can blame it all on DW

Also, their singles from Special Beat Service all bombed. As someone who was 13 at the time and a massive Beat / Ska / 2-Tone fan, even I could see the band was time limited, so the decision to split was inevitable. And well done Andy and David on their FYC success. Fans of The Beat (true fans) would have been well chuffed at that, I know I was. You just come across as a Dave Wakeling hater. Sad.
@PoliceBoy465
@PoliceBoy465 5 жыл бұрын
@@bullyrufI really like Dave Wakeling and feel he was the driving force in The Beat, so please don't refer to me as a Dave hater. I'm not sure of chart success of the singles from Special Beat Service, though I do know Save It For Later is probably the second most known Beat song here in North America, after only Mirror In The Bathroom. My opinion of the Beat split comes from what I've heard Ranking Roger himself say along with Everett Morton.
