Great Video, loved my LR3 it was so awesome. A word of warning about this size tyre. On the drivers side (US) there is a wiring loom attached to the side of the chassis rail. On full left lock the tyre can hit and damage the loom. Easy fix move it up on top of the chassis at this point.

You guys need to check where the air suspension hoses are located and the compressor. The WK2 Jeep Grand Cherokee has them directly in front of the front passenger wheel well liner, behind the flimsy wheel well liner. You burn through the flinsy wheel well liner with a larger tire in the Jeep, and you risk cutting into the air suspension tube which rests very close/up against the inside front wheel well liner. Cut into the air suspension line and the vehicle will soon rest on its bump stops. At that point you'll need to flat bed it to a garage to avoid doing permanent/expensive damage to the air suspension system. I have experienced this first hand, off road. Fortunately I got the vehicle back to pavement before it settled onto the bump stops and had to be flat bedded to the nearest qualified mechanic. I now run a 1/2 inch diameter smaller Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs (32") and for good measure I have pulled the air suspension hose away from it's factory resting spot, which was up against the front passenger side wheel well liner, moving it further forward towards the front bumper and after-market lower front skid plates. So far, so good!

Great vid. I have a 2016 LR4 with the HD package. And man if you think it’s capable as is, the HD package just adds a whole nother level of capability. Yes, it has a full size spare. I put Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 265/50/R20 and it wont fit underneath, which is fine cause it shouldn’t be there anyway but does fit in boot fine. Voyager makes a rear bumper Mount wheel carrier but it is $$. I have the 2 in Johnson lift rods also and am getting put on this month 18 in Compomotive Wheels (smallest that will fit over brakes which I need for towing) and going either 285/60 or 265/65. Where did you get the diagnostic tool and how much was it? That is my last piece I need. My Land Rover has been more reliable than my wife’s Volvo or my buddies Wrangler. So... The first number is width - CARCASS width. Not tread width. The way the tire is manufactured can make the tread width vary greatly. That is why when you get into those super close situations, you really need to look at the manufacturer’s specs. A 255 tire is, for all intents and purposes, 10” wide. But the width of the tread can be 2”-3” difference. Also, the aspect ratio - the second number - is the percentage of carcass width. But this number does not mean it’s the tire’s true height. Your tread depth can affect your tire height, too. If you have a meaty off road tire with 27/32” of tread depth, versus a “normal” tire’s 11/32” of tread depth, that’s a 1”(!) difference in diameter just because of tread. With those tight clearances, I would be willing to bet that another manufacturer’s metric sizing of a true, chunky mud terrain would not clear.

Yeah if you guys are going to long distance it a new alternator/battery on a vehicle of that vintage and miles is probably a VERY goos idea. Also since your going as a group off roading with an an bag system that old isn't as much of a prob IMO cause if something goes wrong you have 2 other vehicles you can rescue with. That being said I would sugest in investing in an airbag and CV joint or two as spare parts to take with you on the trail. I know you guys probably wouldn't chg a broken one on the trail but if something does go wrong theres I doubt a local shop is just going to have easy access to Landrover parts. Or do you not see that as a problem? In my exp the parts that always seem to go go bad on the trail no matter what vehicle: tires, batteries, alternators, cv joints and MAYBE if your extremly unlucky drive shafts and dif locks. Personally I don't carry a spare CV cause I don't have the skills to repair on in the field but I'm driving a GMC seirra so I don't think there is much of a problem in North America finding spare parts for it anywhere. If I was going Overland and mudding though (not a good idea for me anymore unfortunatly) I would carry an extra alternator if you don't have a fairly new one on a rig. Its usually easy to replace and Mud and long distances are good ways to kill them. lol. That being said what are your plans for parts failures in the field? Next time I go overlanding I'm thinking of carrying a device that has satelite functionality because of this. I don't want to invest in a sat phone but a gps device with satphone texting is something on my radar for emergencies.

I don’t understand why the air suspension in cars always break and they’re so expensive to fix. I’m a truck driver and they don’t go out nearly that much in trucks. I’ve only had it happen once in a tractor and once in a trailer and they were both very old. The tractor had over 800,000 miles when it happened and an airbag on a truck is cheaper than one for a car. Go figure.

Hey tommy, yes you're correct the hd package came with a full size spare although the bigger tire might not fit in the spare spot. You can replace it by making your own out of metal pipe fittings from a hardware store, bronze/brass fittings would be best to use. norcalrovers.org/forum/index.php?/topic/2872-lr34-owners-beware-of-the-dreaded-coolant-bleeder-valve/ Also here's a good website for stuff on your land rover. Different trad patterns have different rolling resistance which can affect MPGs slightly. Most MPG effects though are wind resistance related though.
@errhka4 жыл бұрын
Heavier tires need more energy to start rolling and the increase in height will reduce your air resistance
@jamesbeaman63374 жыл бұрын
@@errhka on the contrary, the increase in tire height will increase the frontal area (more air resistance) and also increase the ground clearance which typically also increases the air resistance.
