I'd heard about the mirrors years ago but when I finally went on the ride last year I wasn't able to spot them and assumed I must have misread something. The fact that I still couldn't see them in this video until they were pointed out is testament to how impressive an illusion it is!

The Pepper's Ghost effect has been utilized quite a bit before Walt Disney started using it in attractions. The effect was actually used original in theater plays, dating back to the mid to late 1850s, and has since become one of the most famous effects to date. So, imagine the thrill and shock when theater goers were seeing "spirits" on stage, interacting with the performers.

This was a great overview, I can’t wait to see what they do with this, because the Darren brown train effect is truly iconic and I hope they can maintain that effect in some form with the new theme (probably with a different train, although that might be costly) As for your comment on Pepper’s ghost. It was originally invented in the 1860s as a Victorian novelty, However it was popularised as a method in theme parks by Walt Disneys imagineers such as Marc Davis when they implemented it into the Haunted mansion

Pepper's Ghost is much older than Walt Disney. It was first used in theatres in the 1860s
@HMFan2010 Жыл бұрын
Although Disney’s Haunted Mansion is perhaps the world’s foremost example of the Pepper’s Ghost illusion, the Imagineers at the time availed themselves of the theatrical trick that was made popular by John Henry Pepper in 1862 in Victorian theatre productions. It does not employ mirrors but capitalizes on the fact that a pane of glass (or other transparent media) can be used to reflect and superimpose an image onto another scene depending upon the proper application of lighting. I have never heard of, seen, or experienced Brown’s Ghost Train attraction but the use of mirrors for the floating Pullman car is inspired! I’ve always been interested in the how-to aspects of live theatre effects and magic and while they seem simple and almost comically obvious, as soon as you throw in some smoke and mirrors (literally!) one believes that magic is possible. Thanks for the B-T-S tour! Absolutely fascinating!

I really appreciate this video very well done also a bit more Info about peppers ghost illusion it actually dates back much farther than Walt Disney as it was used in old theaters in stage shows that had ghostly characters apear in them

Do we know if they are keeping the London Underground theme or is that all changing aswell? Also, is the whole ride same layout staying a.k.a ride system or is it slightly changing? Like new element added a.k.a new sequence to make ride longer a bit? Or remaining the same length just without the VR Headsets? Also, are they turning the boarding section into platforms or leaving it as an abandoned train in a warehouse? Telling a similar story to old Derren Browns ride or a complete new storyline? By the way, good to see how ride system has been done and what type its been all this time. Reminds me same or similar system as Jaws ride? But with no arm above wheel car? But instead connected a slab to it, interesting. But yeah, good video, really enjoyed and looking forward to seeing what new ride looks like once opened. 😀👍

@danjon8799 Жыл бұрын
Brilliant video but I will say the comment regarding Pepper's ghost effect is wrong. It actually dates back from Victorian theatre back when there was an obsession on the occult and particularly staging the supernatural in which someone would refract light of a person to the stage from somewhere else (e.g. down in the pit underneath the stage) and it would look like a ghost had appeared. It has become more iconic since the Haunted Mansion but it is not from the Walt Disney company. Hope that helps

I LOOVE VR but I have to admit that VR feels like a cop out when it comes to thrill rides and attractions for many reasons. For one, ironically it’s not very immersive. If I walk into a beautifully crafted scene but then have to throw on a head set, it takes away from the suspended belief I was working on to enjoy the ride. And secondly, as much as I love VR the graphics are not often as crisp and believable as well… real life. I work at a well known world renown park and it’s practical effects are the best in the world because they are just that, practical and as real as you are. I think the future of thrills and shows should be practical seen with your own eyes.

While I think the experience itself will be better then what it was I'm really not feeling the new tone they are going with for this ride, saw some of the new colour schemes and merchandise for the ride and it just gives me more family/kid friendly vibes then the previous dark and gritty ones the old attractions merchandise and promotion/colours gave off which I feel suits a ghost train more. Just hoping the experience itself doesn't get toned down.
@jukesy1992 Жыл бұрын
This actually gives me ideas then. Remember parents complaining about Walking Dead because X was a ride that their children couldn't go on anymore because it was now a horror theme? I'm wondering if this could be a way to immerse everyone. But here's what I find weird about that, the description makes it sound scary. But I'm wondering if, well... hear me out instead. Due to it being actor lead as is the theory, I also wonder if, say, the first actor might notice the make up of the group, and can radio ahead and say hay guys we've got more families in here this time, let's give them an adventure, but if they see adults or recognize people from the scare events, they might say let's give them a scare. Although I'm wondering how it'd work with me as a blind person, hopefully they might be able to do something. I did London Dungeons before it was changed, but the torture chamber guy let me touch each of the things he was demonstrating. Of course stuff like this i.e: Ghost Trainwill probably have script queues and such, but I wonder what they might do ifthey know a totally blind person is part of the group. When I saw a version of Hamlet a while back, the cast knew I was there, and I have it on record that at least two of them actually made it a point to seek me out and perform their speeches in front of me so I'd get their emotion. The person playing Hamlet, I think, actually asked me a question directly, since they were in character and I was not entirely sure if this was the case, I nodded back rather than tried to speak, as I didn't want them to miss their next cue. I got confirmation later that yes, they did project their voice in my direction when they asked the question.
