Here's an idea, why not create a Bengali Thali day. Each vendor could serve directly from their shopfront door to create a buzz and with some bengali music blasting really promote the beautiful food. Would be easy enough to create a buzz on social especially with your great channel. Big family day, all welcome. Educate the masses and create new customers to make sure of tradition fruition! Love your work as always mate all the best from Scotland. P.S. tried shatkora for the first time after watching your vid. Unbelievably good!

I was born relatively close to Brick Lane but live in Ireland now. A couple of years ago I visited Brick Lane as a matter of urgency with my wife and son as I had heard the the restaurant numbers were dropping sadly. We ate in Graam Bangla. The waiter took our large and varied order without writing anything down. I was convinced he would get something wrong. He didn't! I was so impressed - but I continued to be impressed with the quality of the food and also the friendliness of the restaurant. There seemed to be conversations going on between all tables and the staff - and we were very much included. Lovely food and fantastic atmosphere - it was like a big family dinner gathering! Such a shame restaurant numbers are dropping - I just hope it can be a well managed transition into something even better (that's a tough one) as the Cllr suggested it will be. Thanks for all the videos - they are superb.

I worked at the brewery in Brick Lane all through the 80's. Your description of the kebabs in a puri with red sauce brought it all flooding back. We used to buy those for lunch for about 50p each. A favorite restaurant (well cafe really as had vinyl floor tiles and formica tables) was the 'Nazrul' because it was so cheap but the dishes were so authentic. I miss those days. Love your channel :

Back in the late 80s and early 90s used to frequent the Lahore Kebab house on Commercial Road. Back then it was a small little place. We used to wait in our car to be called to a table. Loved the Lamb Kofte curry and enjoyed with plenty of roti bread and chappatis. Now the place has taken over the whole building.

Same thing is happening in Manchester, Latif. Our curry mile (Rusholme) was full of curry houses..it's mainly Middle Eastern/Shawarma restaurants now. I'd imagine with the younger generations going to college/University..they are going down different career paths and not wanting to take over the family businesses ? Leaves no option but to sell up. Great video..the food looks 👌🏼 👍🏼

BAKCBITTING is the downfall of curry houses. Youngsters get scared how the mentality is inside. Hence why no new gens wants to go deep into it other than waiter job on weekends as work experience or pocket side money.

Someone needs to bring back them kebab rolls with the red onion sauce from sweet & spicy and make them exactly the same you would make a killing, when I think of brick lane that’s what I remember it by, childhood memories I’ve been wanting one since they closed and everyone else that tried to copy it just isn’t the same. Does anyone who’s tried one of these kebab rolls know where I can buy one from?

About 8 years ago I fulfilled an ambition to get some food on Brick Lane. Forty odd years of Bradford curries and my expectations were very high. I can’t remember the restaurant that we went to but it was such a disappointment. So bland. Dry fish, that weird bright red chicken and a couple of quid for a chapatti that looked suspiciously like the little sweet ones that supermarkets sell. The cost was outrageous too. Then you go outside and almost get mowed down by some tool with a massive beard on a unicycle.

Whalahi my brother that food looked tasty. I'd love to visit brick lane gram bangla one of my friends had a Bangladeshi restraunt in Birminham called Purbo Bagh he retired and went to live on his compound in Bangladeshi a few years back now but left the restraunt to his daughter an son in law or daughter in law an son not sure which way round but he always did me food for me an my family that was not on the menu personally I love fresh cooked naga chillies in my food so mine was always the same as the rest of my family but with chillies .. out of curiosity are you by chance related to the Latiffs of Birmingham that have a big indoor market store and some bangladeshi restraunts in Birmingham too? Bro I loved to watch this vid lol you cook the way I do you just know what tastes good an throw it in like it's nothing my friends of old used to think I used to use store naught pastes an stuff till a group of friends saw how I cook then at some point it was let slip I was a chef for Marriott hotels but I never had any complaints although some of my English friends tend to think my Indian cooking and Caribbean food can be a bit too hot lol but I just cook normal like back home in Mauritius our cooking is quite spicy food there's a lot of curry influence and Caribbean cooking stems from the African desent of Caribbean people cos back home we cook the same way but it's great seeing propper curry being cooked not the typical balti and jalfraxi stuff designed for English people personally I like cooking a Madras but I always add chilli bay leaf cloves and pimento it kinda tastes like a vindaloo but way better an I do that too I use either hip bone or cos foot because the marrow is what makes the sauce thick an velvety but I only do that when I want to cream the sauce mostly I just reduce the liquid down so the spices are more paste like when it's cooked but you cooked that beef the way I cook curry goat only instead of foot I use the hip bone and leg bone marrow in the sauce same thing esentialy .. another way is to use the oxtail/ cow tail because of the marrow but also the jelly I've the spinal chord nerves when cooked down is very much like when u use cow foot or the hip bone for the marrow it just makes the sauce flavourfull and velvety

Beautiful neighborhood, too bad that there are idiots out there spraying graffiti over those fine businesses.

So you dint enjoy the tea only because, it was not prepared by a bengali, and you expect all bengali recipes should be appreciated, you know something, you are crazy. I hate bengali food ,and I can cook better than all the dishes you cooked ,and I'm not bengali.

I love Asian food and the best Massala Chai I’ve had was from A Pakistani Chef! I also once employed an Afghani Chef and his Paya dish was the best I’ve ever eaten! If I eat from a Bengali Chef I expect it to be Bangladeshi style, if an Indian chef I expect an Indian Influence. Food is amazing and it unites people not disunity! Anyhow I’m glad you are an amazing cook may Allah bless you even more and I hope people benefit from and appreciate your phenomenal cooking! Jazaak’Allahu Khyrun for your critique!
