Dude, I totally remember watching “the jointer is jumping“ we’re the only place I could see it was on iTunes. I think I found you when you only had six episodes. It’s been so long. I don’t even remember. Anyway, you have been a massive reason on why I make a living on this platform now as well. And I cannot thank you enough for that Chris .

I only watch/subscribe to a few woodworkers, and TWW is one of them. It's not hard to tell that you have 18 years of experience, because your video quality is amazing. Also, your builds keep progressing in difficulty, which is cool. I am stepping out of my comfort zone as well, relative to building things that will challenge me a bit more. Thanks for being accessible to those of us who watch your content. You've answered every question I've ever sent you, and quickly at that. No snobbery whatsoever, just support. That is very appreciated.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been watching you since 2012 when I started woodworking. I remember seeing all those powermatic tools and just drooling. I only had a used miter saw and a used worn out sander. Never once did I let that stop me from watching your channel. And never once did I think I could make stuff since I didn’t have all those tools. Now… I have an amazing shop. Not Powermatic. But I am super blessed. And you were one of the creators that taught me what I know and inspired me to keep going.

Excellent. I'm old enough to remember a time when youtube didn't exist and the only content we had access to was heavily commercialized, extremely high cost large production type handyman shows. You never got to see behind the scenes, you never got to see a project go from idea to completion and everything along the way. It was a ridiculously well paid host that would rush through everything. It was pretty much the least amount of content possible to keep people watching so that they could get to the next commercial break. While there is some of that legacy stuff still on youtube, content like yours and the way you make it is incredibly awesome. People want to see the mistakes, the way you do things, hear about how much things cost or the difficulties in getting things. They want to know the host, the creator. It breaks down so many barriers that exist in the mainstream media world. Creators like you aren't going for sensationalism. They're not being told what they can and can't do or say in the show. It is entirely audience driven. The audience literally gets to decide what they like and don't like. The creator must listen to the audience and create content that people want to see and content that will keep people coming back over and over. That isn't easy. There is a direct line of communication between the content creator, and the audience. That's an amazing thing for us the audience. When you can do it for 18 years and be successful, that's quite an accomplishment. When you can do what you love, provide content and entertainment to others, make a living from it, and be your own person, that's about the best one can ask for in life. When there is this huge community full of creators and so much unique content to watch, it's a golden age for the consumer/audience and the creator as well. I love when creators get together, or have these good natured competitions with one another. There are thousands of wood working channels to compete with so why not be a part of the community instead of trying to be your own island in the ocean. I think you do a good job of that. Yes, pocket holes and double sided tape are legitimate too lol.

Two thoughts: Have you thought about a second cat? Keith Johnson might be able to help. :D Second, have you thought about a “make me look younger lens filter? If so, as someone staring sixty in the face, which one works best? More seriously, love your channel and admire the dedication required to make it work. Have been watching for a lotta years and you’re engaging and not cheesy. Lotta folks could learn from you. Still serious: cats are horribly destructive to wildlife. If you can keep them indoors that’s the best strategy. (I have four and have owned 30 or more over the years. It’s a labor of love-sometimes reciprocated. Wouldn’t trade them for anything.

You are very welcome, although I get a lot out out your videos. I was an advocate of some sort of subscriber payment long before Patreon and membership etc. Then the ads came in force. Following that, there were so many good “channels” that the subscription model has failed, I think. It’s too expensive for people to pay a subscription to all of their favourite resources. The advert model must win out over time and it seems like there is a lot more competition, which may plateaux at some point. You have done well, diversified, and will continue to do well I expect.

A couple of other makers like Alexander Chapple and Bob Claggett have made mobile camera booms. Bob's had functional storage as part of the ballast at the base, including battery and charger storage. Would something like an EcoFlow Delta or River (or any of the myriad battery-based power boxes) be enough capacity to let you get rid of the tether during day? And maybe make framing shots easier, too.
@woodwhisperer3 күн бұрын
that sounds like a decent solution, but honestly it's so nice not having to worry about power. The tether really is a small price to pay for that kind of convenience. There are also times when there's shit on the floor that you just can't roll over. That's when it's nice to have something light enough to be picked up easily and moved. Anything shop-made will likely require me to clear a path wherever I need to go.

Marc, you're a great teacher - I appreciate your ability to distill techniques or principles down into concise instructions. This was enjoyable to watch! Just curious - how much scripting do you do for a given video?
@woodwhisperer2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Scripting really depends on the kind of video I’m making. On something like this, the entire thing is scripted out ahead of time. For build instruction, there’s almost no scripting. I just roll with what I think needs to be explained.

I prefer "fortunate" to "lucky". Lucky implies, to far too many people, that the work you put in for nearly 20 years is less important than the luck. Luck is such a weirdly polarizing word, and I try to avoid it. Keep up the great and hard work, and enjoying the fortunate position in which you find yourself.
