Behind the Scenes with Jamie Ferguson and the Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8L IS USM Z

Go behind the scenes with menswear fashion photographer and videographer Jamie Ferguson who recently shot his latest project in the heart of Florence with the Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8L IS USM Z and POWER ZOOM ADAPTER PZ-E2.
Jamie’s film and the behind-the-scenes content was entirely shot on the Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8L IS USM Z, paired with EOS R5 and EOS C70 cameras (with some scenes also utilising the POWER ZOOM ADAPTER PZ-E2B and Zoom Servo Grip ZSG-C10).
The Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8L IS USM Z offers a new level of optical performance and technical capabilities in an L-series lens, offering an extensive flexible focal length range, consistent f/2.8 aperture, outstanding clarity with organic warm colour rendition, advanced image stabilisation / auto focus and a dedicated iris ring for accurate exposure. Wow, nice zoom range with an f2.8. I have the Tamron 35-150 and it's great but have to carry a second lens for the wide angle. And recently took a trip and took a 24-70 only and wished for just a little more tele. This hits all points. Nice Work Canon!

The new RF 24-105/2.8L IS Z really makes the R5 shine. I still own an R5 but have since moved on to the R5C and C70 but I forgot how already-awesome the R5’s stills and video image was and still is. The R5 still can definitely hold its own in 2023. (Wow, time flies.)

As a photojournalist, this is the perfect lens I was waiting for. Especially for fast news photography the range is perfect. For documentary and slow work, I will stick to the primes.

An overall good all-purpose APS-C lens of Canon is also necessary. The Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 was one of them or Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 IS or Canon 17-55mm F2.8. I think Canon is downgrading their APS-C lenses with slower aperture.

But the C70 was actually using the lens as an 38,4mm - 168mm? Because if you used it with the speedbooster the lens does not fit the EF Mount from the adaptor.. how did you get wide angle on the C70?

When I first starting out shooting, I was so drawn to these 1.4 and 1.2 prime. But now I think 2.8 zooms might just be enough. Most of the time u use 1.4 1.2 bc u don’t know composition. U don’t know what to let into the frame, so u just blur everything out and hoping to get a decent shot. A lot of times, I do. But it gets boring after a while once u start learning and shooting more, u will appreciate good background and show it. 2.8 is just enough to have some background separation but not too much and tell a story.

Tamron and Samyang both manufacture a 35-150 f2-2.8 which is way more flexible and interesting then this lens; and also cost like one third or one fourth of it. And is even f2 at wideangle!

@@ritrattoaziendale Most people will find 24mm is more useful than 35mm. They don't need to bring another lens to handle the wide angle needs ! Can we replace 24mm with 35mm? No you can't if the space not allowed. But we can replace 150mm with 105mm with a little cropping. So your argument about flexibility was not true. 24-105 absolutely more flexible for most of the needs of photographers. Smart move from Canon to realease 24-105 and not 35-150.
