If you don't get twenty rabona stepover shoulder assists a season you're "average" or "bad" according to kids who watch these games. Fortunately their opinions are irrelevant. He's made some high profile mistakes and he gets beaten a lot due to a lack of pace and power, and if you're playing in a two man midfield you should be pretty complete, but even before that nobody seemed to understand what his job was. Curiously a lot of idiots switched sides just because of that "why Jorginho has no assists" video that did the rounds a while ago, even though it wasn't a highlight of his main role lol

@@hentaoval3112 yeah he's certainly capable of delivering those Fàbregas-esque line breaking final balls... we've seen it. Sadly his passing has become increasingly negative every season since his last at Napoli in 17/18. Not only has his chance creation rate halved, but his progressive passing rate has halved and his pass into final third rate has dropped by a massive 65%. It wasn't anywhere near that sharp a decline at first, but the numbers fall right off after Tuchel's appointment. But the curious thing is he's only seeing a little less of the ball - not enough to justify the lack of penetrative passing. He's actually averaging half as many short passes per 90 as he did in his last season at Napoli (55 down to 27) but basically the same number of medium and long range passes where his accuracy is actually up. So personally he may not be at his absolute best but tactics visibly play a big part here too. It always frustrates me watching a good player underperform because of a mediocre system. Of course most fans seem to think it's FIFA and that simply "buying a creative playmaker and lethal striker" will fix what's wrong with the team. We have dangerous playmakers and goalscorers and they all look awful trying to play through walls when defensive possession allows opponents to get numbers behind the ball before they hit us with their own actually dangerous attacks on the counter.
