Interesting explanation as to how you became a performer (and with your background in being a stagehand- no wonder you eagerly detailed how props, etc. worked in a show).More great stories you had about your castmates! I especially liked the one with Mr. Scott involving the two of you at some fancy restaurant when he was given the corks from open wine to sniff (despite him being under drinking age) and the two of you felt like 'country cousins' when they brought in the sherbet for 'taste changers' (AKA palate cleansers) between the courses of the meal. I have to say that THAT would have made an excellent 'Waltons' episode like maybe having Corabeth somehow splurged and brought Aimee and Elizabeth to some swanky spot but the two girls having no clue as to what was going on . I hope you are doing okay through this. Thanks again for still interacting with us even though you can't cover 'Walton' specifics!

Judy, that was beautiful. I loved it. Hearing about the actors and hearing about their stories. I've been reading about the actors strike and how so many actors are just struggling as they don't have the cash flow to survive. Some are washing windows and doing whatever it takes to generate an income. Once again another example of not seeing the big picture. We think of the major stars are forgetting the everyday actors that struggle to get three roles a year. I've also read about so many writers who don't get paid for their work immediately and often have to wait for months or years to get a paycheck - if at all. I always thought things were so much better for these people but I realize now that the money seems to end up at the top and trickle down to everyone else. It's cruel when you consider how unsteady work is in Hollywood. Either way, welcome back!

Just DELIGHTFUL!😊 What a blessing to have such wonderful memories. ❤ I especially connected with your recollection of the fancy, fine-dining experience you shared with Eric (and siblings). My 2 best friends in high school, (a guy and another girl), and I decided to save our money and go to a fancy French restaurant on the nearby coast. The guy rented a tux with tails, a top hat and a white-tipped cane. We girls did our best to dress up as well. Of course, we weren't quite old enough to drive so our parents took turns playing chauffeur! We had NO idea what to expect in such a fancy place, but the wait staff was extraordinarily kind to us. (Oh yeah... they allowed us to bring in our own Martinellis sparkling apple juice and served it to us, chilled, in champagne glasses. 🥂) We couldn't read the French menu but were determined to at least TRY the delicacies we'd heard about...especially the escargot! 🐌🐌🐌) ANYWAY, we giggled throughout the entire "event" - having napkins placed on our laps FOR US, and all of the other formalities to which we were completely unaccustomed! 40 years later, that evening remains one of my fondest memories. Soooo... THANKS for reminding me, Judy!😂

Hi Judy! Your Channel is terrific!!! I was a young kid living in New Jersey when I first watched the TV classic THE HOMECOMING in 1971 and also enjoyed the TV series as well, though as the decade wore on I watched less TV as I was a rather earnest college student, well, rather like John-Boy himself! So much to ask about, but I’ll try to keep it relatively brief. For now, just two requests for discussion topics during the AFTRA-SAG strike: I very much enjoyed your stories about Ellen Corby. You know well that she was a very experienced thespian when she arrived on the set of the film in 1971. Her acting resume is pretty incredible, with a large number of acting credits in grade A Hollywood films but also a ton of good TV shows as well. However, some folks on this site might be unaware that Corby had a speaking role in what is now considered by many film critics to be the greatest movie ever made! That film is VERTIGO, directed by the great Alfred Hitchcock in 1958. So, my question is simply this: did Ellen ever talk about her experience working on that film, especially any interaction she had working with Hitch? Secondly, I was also thrilled to hear that you got to know Will Geer fairly well before he passed away toward the end of the series. Bedsides the characters of John-Boy---and Mary Ellen of course 😊 ---my favorite character on the TV series was indeed that of the grandfather played by Geer. If you have any other memories or stories about Geer I’d love to hear them. In particular, did he ever talk to you or anyone else on the show about his experience working on THE SALT OF THE EARTH? This was a special film made mostly by blacklisted actors in 1954 (I think you mentioned something about this film in an earlier interview, perhaps one with Richard Thomas, I'm not sure). Ironically, Geer played the antagonist of the film, a horribly corrupt and vicious sheriff. It is ironic because for much of his career, this decent man was typecast as a heavy, or some kind of nasty antagonist to a beloved protagonist (see his role in 1968’s BANDOLERO for example, where he plays an especially seedy character to perfection, taking on the ultimate protagonist, Jimmy Stewart!). Therefore, I was happy to see him finally get his teeth into the role of a truly sympathetic character over an extended period of time in THE WALTONS. It’s another of life’s ironies that he was getting the very best roles of his career in the last decade or so of his life. I’m guessing his attitude must have been “better late than never”. By the way, another positive---if tough---character he played after he escaped the blacklist was in a film called THE REIVERS (1969), based on a William Faulkner novel. He played a stern but ultimately just figure in the life of the rambunctious main character played by Steve McQueen. Definitely worth viewing in case you haven’t seen it. OK! I’ll stop here. Just one more thing: Keep up the great work! I thoroughly enjoy your YT channel.

Wonderful! Heinz Hall was amazing to perform in. Getting to work for Pittsburg CLO was life changing for me as I got my Equity card and launched a whole new adult stage career.

Just great to hear from you, again, Judy, and to know you’re doing well! Everyone’s said it already but, anything you want to talk about is good… “life conversations” or the latest bean salad. We tune in for the person ~ your “ ‘ness “ ~ subject has become secondary. :)

This is fun because now we get know you as Judy the person. A little glimpse into who you are. I think Ralph Waite was a pioneer when sharing his personal side with alcohol. Most people keep that very private and personal and some stay in denial. He was a brave man and great man at that.

We all used to ride our bikes to one friend or another house and stay outdoors until dark fell or street lights came on and we didn't sit indoors newline about being bored while surrounded by the latest and hottest whatever as most of us didn't have a lot of things and we were all OK that way back then... Never bored, never complaining about anything except when it rained and messed up our plans, but then again playing in the rain was fun too... Rarely do I see any kid or kids outside these days, let alone playing outdoors, climbing trees, exploring, etc, and that is sad because it's what America has become over the past 30 years or so..

Am watching TCM this morning & Lucille Ball is being featured today, what a great actress she was. Does the strike look like it's going to be over yet?

Thank you, Judy for your continued support, not just for your fellow actors, writers, directors, etc., who are fighting for the common good, but also for your fans! We appreciate your efforts to keep us in the loop, as it were, and to find acceptable ways to entertain us! It's much appreciated by this long term fan - I was in 8th grade in 1970-71, so have been a fan from the get-go, when the very first show hit the airwaves. And I *think* we are very close in age as well! 😊 Best wishes as you and all the rest continue to "fight the good fight" for what is only right for everyone who puts their heart and soul into the special work that it takes to entertain and educate the world! Looking forward to more soon!!😊 How about telling us a little more about your adult world - finding love, getting married to your current husband, having a family, your children, your career as an adult post-Waltons, and so on. As far as you are comfortable, of course! I apologize in advance if I have hit on any sore spots there, as not knowing those details makes it difficult to avoid them. We are probably all familiar with the fact that your last name changed during the later seasons, with a first marriage, and of course, as always, any personal issues that should be avoided will certainly be respected. Best wishes to all during the strike, and hoping for a positive outcome for everyone! ❤ Shari D. Indiana
