Moreover, do you know what the terms flexibility and mobility mean and how they really don't mean much on a bosu ball? No need to hate folks. Obviously the guy is accomplishing great things. But to answer how this exercise could help improve speed: Have you ever seen anyone who has weak hip flexors run..? If you have, you likely noticed that they weren't running very fast. Being as their flexion of ankle, knee, and hip would be poor due to their lack of hip flexor strength (among weakness in other muscle groups): they would have a low heel recovery (i.e. short stride length) and therefore little force production into the ground. So.. most things done to improve hip flexor strength, therefore improving the triple flexion of ankle, knee, and hip: will likely have a positive impact on stride length and turnover rate, which are the 2 prominate components of sprint speed.

@alpirl29216 жыл бұрын
Pat McNamara only way I see is something to do with ankle stability, more than likely you're right though
@ryanturner85776 жыл бұрын
You're exactly right. And also, it isn't stability training. It makes no sense. You're training stability on an unstable environment. You play football on a stable ground, so your stability training should be based on using a stable environment for sport specificity.
@bdgaming53636 жыл бұрын
That exercise is meant to help in balance aswell as leg strength. When playing football balance is key and being able to run and take hits and bounce off of them and keep going is very important. That is how it helps football players and all athletes.

You build a strong foundation and transfer the explosive energy to the ground better instead of losing energy in stability muscles being off kilter

Robert Saladino , there is also mountains of peer reviewed literature that disproves everything this video is demonstrating. Unstable surface training has been shown to make athletes slower. This “Coach” also implies that he conflates strength training with skill training. He called them “football moves”. This is known as simulation training. Simulation training has been shown to degrade skill and reduce speed and power.

@@heftyhugh9086 He probably does. I just don't like how "strength" training is portrayed to the general public. What he showed is not very productive strength training. You can't progressively overload those movements. I guarantee nearly all of those athletes can do those movements proficiently in a week and will never progress past that.
@JohnWL5 жыл бұрын
@@heftyhugh9086 This is probably some rehab or mid-season conditioning. I would hope, and assume, the bulk of all of their strength training is comprised of compound barbell movements. It is misleading for this coach and news team to report that these movements are how athletes get stronger. @@JohnWL how out of whack is your ego if you can't admit that the strength and conditioning coach from one of the best programs in the country knows more about fitness and exercise than you do?
@JohnWL5 жыл бұрын
@@heftyhugh9086 I literally said he did know more about strength and conditioning than me in a previous comment. I never said the staff was unqualified. I was bashing the methods used as general strength techniques. Why can't I critique a public video that is supposed to teach the general public how athletes get stronger, and in turn, themselves, when this is an inefficient way to go about it? This goes against some very basic strength training concepts. You can't continually gain strength on these exercises unless you add additional stimulus (intensity or volume) or these will get very dangerous (ie. squatting with 315lbs on a bosu ball). You don't need to be a professional trainer to know that. Why don't you add something constructive instead of just calling people out?
